I liked the original GTA when it came out.
Didn't have much love for GTA2 as it felt too much like the same, just with a visual update and settings change.

GTA3 was excellent in many ways and pretty much what I would call the highlight of the "GTA 3 games"

GTA3 had a great town/map design, size of things was great, music selection wasn't too pulled in one direction and was pretty universal/anonymous and the main character wasn't some overacted asshat, instead the main char was quiet and never really butted in on things, making him and his personality a bit more up to the player to decide.

GTA Vice City and San Andreas had some nice extra touches to the game system itself, but Vice City's town was flat and boring all over and San Andreas had a setting that simply didn't work for me + the main character was 110% a moron all the time he opened his mouth, making me wish there'd be some easy way to just add another main character who unfortunately lost a bet or something and thus had to spend like a couple of weeks with that other moron.

the "real" GTA3 sequel to me is Crackdown (which ofcourse is directed by someone who was involved in the creation of the original GTA and also features one of the most awesome Co-Op experiences ever made :p)

Unfortunately don't have GTA4 ontop of my wish list as I once again see that I get to most likely be playing with some bum of a main char and the videos so far haven't really shown if the game will be running well or not (and knowing Rockstar's past gen games, it wouldn't surprise me if the performance will be the same and that'd be rather sad :( )

I miss GTA 2 as well, as it get multiple game supported. I remember we got too much fun when us-group of guys kept killing each other. but there weren't any more fun since when this feature got removed on GTA 3.

I'm not that much of a fan. The original was great, and the London addpack was a nice touch for me, it gave me somewhere I knew, even vaguely, to traverse. GTA2 I liked, but was a bit pissed with one thing. THEY REMOVED MOTORCYCLES! Bastards XD

SinValentine
07-18-2007, 05:17 PM
:lol:gta 3 didn't have motorcycles either

The only complaint I have about any RPG is level building through repetitive random encounters... I'd walk aimlessly in circles waiting for the next battle to raise my stats... Essentially, the first few hours of the games involve this so any up coming boss fights are super easy.

Damn FF8 made it so the enemies stay the same level as you so there really was no point to leveling up early in the game... Pretty nifty, but it sucked the first time I played... Had to keep on my toes more than I really should have ^_^

You should try skill based RPGs instead of the level based ones. I find those much more enjoyable, they still have some repetitive actions but you are free to do whatever skill you want. FF is a Japanese RPG and Japanese like familiarity and being told what to do, go here, go there, attack, wait to be attacked, attack again, get xp, do it again. Boring and easy as f***, yet people think they have accomplished something playing it lol. Well maybe it's just the same as reading a book.

I like FF7, FF8 and some other Japanese RPGs but I prefer games like Obilivion, Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies before they added levels to it.

I like The Grand Theft Auto III games but they give a bad rep for videogames

Congress only sees the games like GTA but ignores games like
Katamari Damaci

The original GTA was far more violent than the later ones, also had worse language (quite a few c-bombs). It came out here with a R18 sticker on it. I was like 15 or 16 at the time, and we had to get my mates older brother to rent it out for us.

GTA always seem to me like a mediocre game by mediocre developers which only generated attention because it screamed "LOOK AT ME IM CONTROVERSIAL!!!!".
Arguably the games had good points, GTA 1 and 2 the good point was turning them off and using the discs as throwing discs or coasters.
GTA3 had some good points but again it was "LOOK AT ME IM GANGSTA WHO CAN STEAL STUFF", GTA VC played on Scarface too much, and San Andreas, don't get me started on.
I liked the free roaming style and non linear missions but frankly the engine like with Manhunt and every other Rockstar/Take Two game sucked balls.

They're fun to pick up and play for 20-30mins but after that I can't stand them, its the same monotonous gameplay repeated throughout the series.

And GTA4 looks like its following suit, you know theres usually a problem when a company tries to be secretive and withhold information, and in game video, even the HD video's i've seen for GTA4 indicate massive frame cutting and slowdowns, but as a pawn like everyone else, i'll probably be getting the 360 build of the game on release in order to get the updates etc.
Hopefully it won't get banned like most of their other franchaises, *Then again, Manhunt 2 where you had to act out killings using a remote, to be honest is moronic and should have been banned for simply sheer stupidity*

I wish people'd get over this franchaise, stealing cars got old about 6 years ago.

i was thinking of getting manhunt, wasn't sure if it was good though.
my first gta game was gta 3 and i liked it, but after a while it got boring. i liked vice city's storyline i guess because i played it with my mom :P it was good bonding time. san andreas i thought was too thuggish, he was too profane and he didn't seem as smart as the other main characters in the past games

And you'd be the reason most politicians complain about games in minors hands if you were the one there when the game was brought. The whole reform is always supposed to be about stopping minors from buying games.

I can't talk though, as I said - I was like 15 or 16, so I wasn't exactly supposed to be playing it either.

Funny because I was mocking my mate for playing his DS and Pokemon on it, and like 10 or 11 years ago he was doing the same thing... then I look at the last four games I played - Tomb Raider remake, Resident Evil remake, MGS Twin Snakes, and GTA Vice City Stories and I realise I'm not any better :p

ah well, it's not like you don't learn about these things from movies, tv, and kids in your class.

i'm 22 and they give me trouble at gamestop because i look young, and i think also because i'm a girl :\

Screw politicians. It was a birthday present lol. Besides, it was a top-down game made out of pixels, and not that good, either. I'm really gonna try that, aren't I?

The newer versions, maybe, because they show it in a more graphic sense, but if you're MATURE enough to know it's bad and you shouldn't do it, what's the problem?
