  • Interested In Capture Cards

Hey ya'll, Gradon here, just wondering if any of you can give me any information on Capture cards, specifically PS2? Fat?

    I want to know:

    How they are installed/used?

    An average price of one?

They record videos? What file types?

How to get them on a comp?

Thanks in advance; I only know they record image from a game and sound, but I wanted to know a little bit more.

Can't you just hook your PS2 up through a DVD Recorder, record onto a blank DVD, then transfer the file onto your computer?

Your computer's PCI or PCI Express slot

Depends on the software you use as your not strictly forced to use the default one that comes with the card to capture.

How to get them on a comp? You use a S-Video or RWY ps2 cable and connect the connector to the card, newer cards can probably use component and hdmi idk, i've also yet to see one that has a scart slot.

First thing you should say is: USB, or PCI, or PCI-e.

I have no idea what PCI is, so USB would do.
I never knew they could get so complicated. :S

Plan on doing SD and not HD then, right?

PCI / PCI-Express are the capture cards that you have to install in your PC. I prefer these to USB capture cards because of the speed in getting the data from the TV onto the PC. I've used Pinnacle and Hauppauge cards before and they are not too bad for the price. The ones I've used weren't HD quality, but they were decent for making screen captures and small clips.

PCI is just a slot in certain people's computers which you can install things into, the same as AGP and PCI-Express, which are upgraded versions.

I'm waiting on all the new standards before upgrading / buying new pc eg:
PCI Express & USB 3.0 and whatever the new version of sata is.
