This is a topic to ask why people we're banned. Since I've been getting some PM's lately, I figured this would solve that problem. So if you are wondering why someone was banned, ask here.

I think this thread is giving us a chance to understand why someone was banned, rather than a chance to fight for someones reinstatement.

Community leaders rarely ban without either giving a warning or feeling that the member in question stands to harm the community.

I'd trust Dot completely on his belief on whether or not someone should be allowed to contribute to discussions, and would simply take this topic as a chance to enquire why any particular member was banned.

As for why the pic is funny, it's more funny to those who understand a lot of the inside jokes and humor that goes on with the staff and regular members who communicate with each other often in group chats. It's understandable a lot of people wouldn't get the humor behind the pic and other things that Dot50 and some others may mention on the forums from time to time.

Exactly. That's an issue I'm trying to deal with on reH at the minute, people posting loads of RE Degen links then saying because it's streaming they don't think it's piracy, and that it's not in the rules that you shouldn't post pirate copies. It is in the rules of law. Lol..

The only thing you can say, 'I downloaded this and not from a legal site', is beta stuff.

Because A) Piracy damages that which we love, and we don't like it.

And B) Dot's the one who gets into crap if the site is found to provide links to downloads which you guys have put up and he isn't all that willing to get into crap for that.

Betas are the only exception because they were never gonna be sold for cashy money. And even then, if you got hold of, say, the RE5 beta right now I'd ask Dot before you stick a link to it up. A beta of a game before release is iffy.

Just keep in mind that we don't only follow infractions when dealing with people. No. He was a bit of a spammer who liked to pick fights and eventually picked too many. As with so many others he couldn't accept that he was banned and tried to get back, even using a child porn site as a proxy, although it is possible he didn't know what was on the site.

AFAIK, that depends. If your IP was banned you can view the forum home, but you can't access or discuss in any forum. If your Account was banned, you can view all forums but you can't log to participate from that account. Am I wrong? I'm not too sure.

I witnessed a peculiar experiment with a forums settings (I think it was ikonboard, not sure), where someone who was pissed about being treated "not fairly", wasnt banned per se, but instead noone saw his posts except himself. It took him a month before he realised it (some 200 posts later) and he left on his own.

When it comes to things like this, personally I like to set myself some rules and standards. We could've probably done what was done ourselves, plastered it all over the front page, linked friends and family around the globe, shot off angry e-mails and started biting the hand that feeds when they kindly ask us to remove something. But we chose not to.

Why did we do that? 'cause this is the type of stuff that can be much more interesting to do after the game has been released, when everyone have experienced the game and so on. In this time of Christmas, have you already been sneak peeking into your Christmas Presents?

Anyway;

1: We don't run the risk of spoiling the game. Not for ourselves, not for everyone else.
-Is this really how your first playthrough of RE5 should be? You somewhat knowing what will evt. happen?

2: We don't trouble anyone.
-Capcom certainly has put big money into their campaign for Resident Evil 5. And they've certainly got their own plans for when and how to reveal stuff. This also includes what to even reveal before the game comes out. So play along with it. It's more fun (and info) "in the long run" than to spoil the main game :)

3: We will have the chance to tinker with this stuff for all eternity later anyway.
-Finding different types of unused stuff is actually more fun after you've played the game without spoilers and you actually know what's there. Stuff like this current "situation" (to overdramatize it a bit) could may even mean that we in the future wont see a demo released as early as this one. Maybe it'll be tied back-to-back with the retail, to avoid possible spoilers like this being found in the demo data. And for those who love looking for unused stuff, that may even mean that there is less old leftover data in the public demo to look for. Now... you wouldn't want that, now would you?


And as some of you know, Capcom has been very active on the community front lately.
You've got the whole Capcom Unity thing. You've actually got Sven from the US office posting and answering people's questions. You've got Street Fighter 2 HD Remix where people from OCRemix got to do the soundtrack. You've got the Top Secret Bionic Commando podcast where they talk of a lot of funky insider stuff with guests and more. And we've now got the Resident Evil 5 Kijuju ARG going. Capcom really is trying to reach out to the fans these days in many new ways never even properly done before by a game company, and since we're all fans here; I think it's only appropriate that we should behave, set a good sample like the good fans should. (which ofcourse doesn't mean we'd necessarily mindlessly eat and accept anything. If something feels wrong, we'll ofcourse speak up.)

Capcom will never be as fan-run as Crystal Dynamics is, which is a shame. There are numerous Eidos and CD members joined up to Tomb Raider Forums, and they are constant posters (each has massive postcounts; Jaywalker has over 4000, and Keir has over 10000). Keir has once said that the fans really don't realize how much the suggestions on the forums shape the game.

If Capcom were REALLY listening to fans, they would try and run as far away from the RE4 formulae as possible. However, RE4 brought the $$$, so that won't happen :(

Youre saying CAPCOM has been more active lately, yet you bring this as proof. CAPCOM-Europe forums had "Ask CAPCOM" subsection for years, and a few years before I joined it in 2002. The slight increase in community interaction is really insignificant after youve seen what the likes of DICE, IW and even EAs own studios have done. CAPCOM is behind progress, not ahead of it.

Like I said, I respect your decisions and they make sense, but please dont try to portray CAPCOM as good buddies who deserve excellent treatment because theyve been treating their own fanbase and community that great. It insults those of us who actually know. :)

Well, I know I for one avoided the spoiler stuff as much as possible. And I don't wanna know about my presents, either. I guess I'm with Carn on this...simply put I know as much as I wanna, especially about the story and characters. I knew everything that happened in Code: Veronica before I bought it. And it took me about a month to beat the game because I simply wasn't that interested anymore.

On the other hand I was completely offline before I got RE4 and knew nothing beyond it was Leon, and there were no zombies. Beat the game in about two days. Even with such a cliched plot I wanted to know if everything happened as I expected.

It did.

Equally, I agree that getting into a demo afterwards like this is more interesting because you can see what's been changed, what they've done differently, maybe even things that were planned and scrapped. I want all the information after I've played, so I can compare then. I do not wanna know the game inside out before it's even out here.

Only specific media outlets have been given demos, for review purposes. reHorror could get in trouble for that alone, hacking pirated content, and plastering it across their front page. You do understand that, when it comes to that second part, it has nothing to do with people being spoiled by content, digging in anticipation for the new game? Its similar to people trying to find out which content was left out in STALKER and Battlefield 2, but cannot be compared to RE5 Demo. People are looking for spoilers here, thats why the files are opened in the first place.

Youre bringing up examples of demos being hacked, beta footages being shown, but when was the last time things went haywire when a RE game was being opened? Think about it now, really hard. I recall Outbreaks. Outfits and unused levels. Thats it.

Reading the Worthplaying interview with Kramer I assume downloading and playing a japanese-ony demo isn't piracy, and there were a lot of big gaming websites with tutorial "how to download the biohazard 5 demo"...ecc so I don't think that's properly piracy. Im not a hater, Im simply saying that CAPCOM arent the pioneers of the industry. Never were, they get a lot of undeserved credit, mostly from people who havent seen how some of the other studios do it.

It would be great if forum's were given some sort of system which would effect member's like Beasley. It would work something like this: If a user is banned three time's, and keep's coming back/hacking/whatever, then everytime he tried to re-register and make an account, the website [THIA] would send electric impluse's through the wire's in the back of his monitor, and straight through to his mouse/keyboard, and thus, electricute the shit outta him. [not so much that it kill's him though]

I know the 'Ban Crab' is a much loved mascot around here but maybe he could be retired and replaced with Leon holding a big scrubbing brush. His arm could rapidly move up and down so it looks like he's scrubbing. Underneath it could read "I'm gonna scrub you from the face of the board"

Just a random thought:
I know the 'Ban Crab' is a much loved mascot around here but maybe he could be retired and replaced with Leon holding a big scrubbing brush. His arm could rapidly move up and down so it looks like he's scrubbing. Underneath it could read "I'm gonna scrub you from the face of the board"

Then next to the offender's name, Instead of "Banned" it could say "Scrubbed".

This would also annoy all the Leon haters. "Damn, I've just been scrubbed by Leon!". Adding insult to injury...

Best to just completely ignore people who get randomly banned, and only really ask about long-term members who get banned. Really, all this topic does is encourage them. Well, its kinda obvious when a guy with 0 posts gets banned, its a member trying to get back in. Why even ask if the guy never posted? Especially under a name like "Capcom Legal". And your post wasn't the only one I deleted.
