hello guys! This is the thread to my project dubbed Biohazard 2 Prereleased.(WARNING!! This is recomended for die-hard biohazard fans)

this project is A pre-expoited biohazard 2 trial edition allowing you to play with some of the earlier stuff from Biohazard 2 aka Resident Evil 2.

around the ada scene so I am not going to make you wait any longer to do so
because I`am taking long (I know sorry it`s my laziness combined with being stumped thats
delaying the progress) but for putting up with the delay I am going to release A half

I was working on a Biohazard 2 Trail edition for the PSX,thanks to dark biohazard and enrico marini from the bioflames boards,I was able to get some help from some of their guides,I have been wanting to play the resident evil 2 demo in and out for 6 years now,Well I was able to come close it,I wanted to share this project with you guys.(WARNING!! This is recomended for die-hard biohazard fans)

This is build v1

there are some known glitchs you should avoid..
when you enter the helicopter hall you enter nowhere,what I mean by that is you can explore all the rooms in that path but you can never finish the demo.

do not try to attpempt to open the east office back door after you have used the "D" key (Excluding the invisible door).

when you go to 2nd seneario point and return to the room with the boarded up door,you will encounter 1.5 sherry,though this glitch is not harmful,it is vary intresting.o_o

and last but not least,this build does not have all the playable rooms,but most of them.

where can i download epsxe?

I think he means the fact that Sherry is there at all, just standing there casually, hanging out. Probably just bought herself a can of Dr. Pepper from the vending machine.

Wasn't there a cutscene in that room where Sherry runs away from Claire and escapes through the gap under the door? It's possible that they were using 1.5 Sherry as a placeholder.

Actually, she runs away from Leon, by the time Claire enters that room, she only catches Leon. And yeah, it's probably what it is.

i can't run the EPSXE. i don;t have Nvidia.

anyone try running the emulator on just INTELs graphics onboard? I cna run spore ok but i never get EPSXE to run well

You need many plugins such as graphics,sound,and system bios I would give you mine but I believe thats pirating in some way,So your on your own on this one.

EDIT:Did anyone get this running yet?

Check NGEmu for the plug-ins. As for the PSX BIOS, you're gonna have to look for that yourself, but it's not that hard to find.

well i have the BIOS, no problem there but i have tried most plug in configs and cannot get it to not run like ass.

MY biggest P is when i run my copy of parasite eve 2, all reflective surfaces are horribly pixelated in tie die colors, also no sounds runs during FMVs

He says it's just longer than the original Demo version, I think he managed to let the player explore more rooms and such stuff.

Probably a hacked version that exploits all the assets. I mean, the original demo is only so short, but there could be tons of stuff included on it that you can't play through simply because they won't allow you.

sorry for not responding..biohazard EX is right I reprogramed the RTDs and relink the rooms so that it would be longer.

Yeah its nothing big.But atleast you can explore the rooms with out AR wich I found was a pain.

So as I understand, in the Demo version, there's a Typewriter in Kendo's gun store. Are there any other differences in the backgrounds? Particularly the ones that weren't playable in the original demo?

well I did notice an extra door in the hall leading to the cell,But if you mean if I changed the backgrounds,No sorry I dont know how,I already told you I used the guides info to hack this.

oh where do I start? well in the 2nd hall where you get the uincorn medal theres boxes instead and instead of an emergency latter you can get a view of the entire police hall,the press confrence room is completely diffrent,and the east office theres no door but and instead a First aid cabinet and it goes on....

I was shocked When I first discovred it,It makes me wonder what Beta Version 1 looked like.But yeah that the most changed room that I know of yet.No AR was used to get here^_^

The reason they stand out so much is because the standard PS1 resolution is 320 by 240. But in an emulator, you can run it at 640 by 480. But since Resident Evil's backgrounds are pre-rendered, it can't just make them bigger like with 3D models. Instead, it upscales them, which, depending on your settings will either make it pixelated, or make it blurry, blurry is what you're seeing in this case.

oh if you want count this too I added the watch in the original place where the L key was,The new L key is at the room with the first ruby.

There will be still be areas you can't generally access, because the game is missing areas which would otherwise connect them.... especially a number which were made for Claire's mission.

what? I told you before I am not doing this for 1.5,In fact Trail edition has nothing related to 1.5 except a few leftovers witch you cant even access,with out the help of some PC tools,I already wiped me hands of the situation,and plus I would pefer beta 1 over 1.5:D

Anyways back on topic..
I have been reworking this demo for a day and a half
updates with this new version..

patched crash areas...
added unseen beta items
added event involving items
relinked rooms to be less goofy
invisible door put in correct place
glitchs..
sound skip at times..

Here you can see clearly that the gate where Sherry escapes in the final version does not have the hole, but observed that it is another hole that leads to the Library.

yes I played Version 1 on my PSone before.However I just got done playing version 2 on the PSone and it did terrbly,it paused every other moment and so far the basement areas are all corroupted,Inless you can find a way to repair corrpupted sectors readd sync and repair its SUB your better off playing it on Epsxe where it plays great.

oh,Thanks sorry about that,its strange in RTD 1000 there were 9 codes like that,When I was playing with it,it was moving the camra,then what does it do then?

Its the same CD image as the trail edition at bioflames,just with minmal changes to the RTDs to alow you to explore 99.98% of the playable game and to obtain 75% of the items in the game,If bioflames CD image works use that configuration on this one.

there not,I Really dont think there for 1.5 I believe the L key was only on beta 1 (witch the demo and trail versions were spawned from certin bulids of)and plus those look like either ISO sectors or hexeditor offset locations,I really dont think theres a secret menu(assuming AKA Debug menu) either or mark grass would have found it already.

in order to get to the basement,You need to do a few things first,1:Obtain the valve handle.2:put out the fire on the helicopter(dont go any farther or you will trigger the sharry glitch,witch would take the oppertunity of going to the basement away from you)3:collect all the card keys scattered around the police station(Blue,Yellow,Red,Green) and use them on the computer(to do this enter the sub screen and use each card key).4:you will find that the only locked that was unlockable is now unlocked,enter it.5:go past the chared helicopter and enter the door.

thats how its done,it all depends on what you do.^_^

Thats because there probly not enough event flags to set them as dead,you know every enemy has an event flag to keep them dead thats how most video games work.

Thats the only one, wether you meet him more in 1.5 is out of the question, most likely you do, but theres no more pictures of Roy, just look at that one, the room wasnt even completed then, so if thats the only picture of Roy and the first room you see him, maybe that build didnt have more of him.

well You can go to the crow hallway Witch required A chipped gameshark or pEC aswell as other areas witch required this method such as the basement areas,while using gameshark things would crash,You should not have that problem here(inless it was the english version)

You know the gameshark modchips for the original playstation,the method is required to be able to turn off the cheats witch you can not do in a disc base gameshark.

Can't they be jokered with key presses? I never owned a parallel port version it was already phased out before I bought my ps1, I believe a VCD attachment was made for it also.
I use Action Replay CDX V3.3 and disc swap for backups or run it through PEC with EPSXE.

No,Thay cant,Its like switching with another disc and because Some games Biohazard 2 trial Edition in this case are not ment to swap discs it is impossible(To my knowage yet...) even if the disc where desigh to swap the disc would only have Disc 2 luanch data not the gameshark.

I have a spring in ps1 lid so the disc still spins around when the lid is opened, I select all my cheats "disc stops spinning at this point" unhook the spring and drop it back down so it starts spinning the cheat disc again then when it speeds up really fast swap it with my backup before it reaches the black screen then close the lid.

but you see the current codes we have for biohazard 2 trial edition were desigh for a one go,once you turn them on thay never turn off intell the ram is deleted(turning off the PSone),I even tryed to hybrid codes,Combining the location codes with the weapon codes so that I can press certin buttions to deactive them,but it ended up in total failure.The reason I wanted to the code off was because it was ment to only get you to that area by any means so if you tryed to enter a door you only find yourself back at the same location.

Like which version of pops would I use and would I have to change the game ID?

Ah, the old swap-disc. Don't bother. Doesn't work really well anyway.

Just get a modchipped PS1 off eBay. They usually only run you from $30 - $50 depending on the extras included.

huh? what do you mean by finish? you mean to make it fully playable? because my disc is scatched and the ISO rip was not that well,All in all I Was planning on patching in japanese text into english from the trial(Somehow?).Oh did you check out the front page version 3 was released and that stupid room with the helicopter does not crash as I have fixed it.^_^

There are a way to force the game to load 1.5 backgrounds? Making a modification to the BSS folder, deleting BH2 files and renaming 1.5 backgrounds like the deleted one from BH2, in this way the game is forced to load them or I'm wrong?

do you mean the demo? yeah I notice that too maybe hunk was intended for 1.5? I mean mostly everything from Beta 1(I call it alpha 2) was 1.5,s I mean beta 1 or "Biohazard 2 incarnate" is really in its alpha stages at that time,the only reason it was held together so good because it used 1.5,final beta as A base.

I thought you ment loading claire in the demo,you see I think that mechine gun only extist in the betas and demos you can not do it alone with just AR codes you missing chacter animation too,You know I got thory that maybe its possible to transplant leon with some of claires gun animations from the retails to get it to load.


Can you explain whats changed? Your first post doesn't give much incentive to try this out. I'll grab it, but if you could maybe say what you changed and whats new, that'd be nice.

ah..Version 8 is only half done,it was intended to inlcude both begining and ending cut-sences
edited out.Begining was the cut-scene was when you see the text typing about the S.T.A.R.S going into
the mansion and what happening after the mansion incident.The Ending cut Scene is with ada ending the game.
Though I was able to stop ADA from completely resetting the game,I am still unabled to release myself properly from the
event.heres A sneek peak with ADA.:)

they exist as sound samples,I think in the sound folder as well as the Seqences for the music.:)

A RDT file is an uncompressed file archive that uses very tricky pointer schematic. There's really nothing more to it... the files inside of a RDT are a different story, however.

You recievedan invalid argument error because you didn't specify a RDT file and option. For example, if I wanted to extract all the files from ROOM1000.RDT, I would type this:

RDTool ROOM1000.RDT -e

To repack the contents into a new, modified RDT, I would have to type this:

RDTool ROOM1000.RDR -r

Ok I extracted the contents from ROOM1000.RDT and I got a CAMERA Folder, Effects, Object and two Script folders, SCRIPT_01 and SCRIPT_02 and files that end in BLK, CAM, ESD, ESP, FLR, LIT, MSG_J and MSG_P, PIX, RVD, SCA, SND and VH and VB. Now the main question....what do I do with them now?

I dont get it,do you mean command prompt? because Used RDTool with it and it says it does not exist or Another program is using it.>_<

I have the Nova Program that extracts the SAP files to WAV, but I dun know how to switch them with the 1.5 ones.

How to change sound files in RE2 when there's more than one WAV in a SAP file

Go into your windows explorer or whatever file browser you use.

Use novasoft extractor to extract the SAP file you want to modify.

For instance, if you want to modify Leon's damage sounds, right click on Core00 in the sounds folder and click "scan with extractor." This will bring up a list of the wav files contained in the sap file.

Now, to overwrite a file, you go to "functions" and click "import file," then choose the wav file you want to use to replace that file. The wav file you're going to be replacing is probably a different size than the one you're using, so when it asks you if you want to keep the file the same size, click "NO!"

now here's where it gets messy. in SAP files that only have one file, it's easy. after you click "no," you highlight the file that you've just finished overwriting and click "properties" and just hit "max" next to the "file size" dialogue box.

In SAP files that have MORE than one file, though, things get very complicated, because overwriting a file replaces all the rest of the data beyond it. you'd be able to change Leon's death moan (Core00 0004.wav) without much muss, but if you want to change anything before that (the three other files), you'll end up replacing all the data beyond them when you overwrite the first one.

HOW TO DEAL WITH THIS:
the important thing here is to make sure you're telling the program the proper file size and POSITION.

So here's what you do.
Get out a calculator, and open a second instance of your file browser for convenience's sake. Get the file size of the file you're using to REPLACE the original. Now, replace the files from top to bottom. In other words, you MUST replace Core00 0001, then Core00 0002, then Core00 0003, then Core00 0004. If you do it another way it'll probably screw up.

Starting with the top file, do function-->import file and replace it with the wav you want to use, remembering to say "NO" to the dialogue box that asks you if you want to keep the files the same size. Now that it's replaced, it's time to do some math to tell the program where to put the file in the file position.

Remember how I told you to get the file size of the WAV you're using to replace the original? Highlight the replaced file (let's assume it's Core00 0001), and click on properties. FOR THE FIRST FILE IN THE SAP FILE, THE POSITION IS ALWAYS 8. It's already going to be at 8, so you don't have to do anything there. Now, tell the program what size the new file is. Type it out in bytes in the File Size dialogue box.

Okay, now you have to fix the position of the next file so that the program knows where to look to find it. If RE2 thinks that Core00 0002 is at its original it's gonna be looking for it WITHIN the new Core00 0001, assuming that the first file is big enough to go past it. So how do you do that? This is why you need the calculator. It's easy enough for going between the first file and the second. Simply ADD 8 (the position number) TO THE FILE SIZE OF THE FIRST FILE IN ORDER TO GET THE POSITION FOR FILE NO. 2. Now highlight file 2 and go to properties and plug in the new position into the dialogue box.

When you replace File 2 with a new wav, add the position number to the file size in order to get the position number for file 3 and change that. Do the same for File 4.


In short, here's the process:

File 1:
functions-->import file-->properties-->change file size to new file size.

File 2:

STEP 1) add position number of file 1 (always 8 ) to the new file size of file 1. This will be File 2's new position number. Properties-->change position number to NEW position number.

STEP 2) functions-->import file-->properties-->change file size to new file size-->add NEW position number gotten in STEP 1 to new file size. This will be File 3's new position number.

File 3:

change position number, import file, change file size, add position number to file size to get position number for file 4.

File 4:

change position number, change file size.


If this worked, you'll be able to hear the new sounds without any problem when you click "show" in novasoft extractor. Otherwise, they'll come up as weird text.




Using this method and the sound files from RE1 I created a Rebecca soundset which I'll upload in a minute. It's a little different from the one I posted in the other Mods thread because I've been tweaking it a little.

If you want to check it out, simply copy the files in the zip into your RE2 common/sounds/core folder and rename the damage set to Core00 for Leon or Core01 for Claire; and the death scream to Core32 for Leon or Core33 for Claire.

Well I tried to Repack the File and it said that Room 100 is a non packable RDT. Anyway, I played and after I try to get to the third camera angle, it crashes. But I replaced the 'new one' with the original RDT.

Let me help, all you have to do is copy the CMD.exe from the System32 Folder in your Windows folder and put it onto your Desktop and put the RDTool.exe on the Desktop and then on cmd, type RDTool (Make sure you have a RDT file on the Desktop) and type in RDTool ROOM****.RDT -e. After that, you will get a folder with the Room's data in it. Camera, all that stuff.

I can't rebuild the RDT's I get a .RDR file instead of a .BHR file, I've tried using the .RDR's to repack it but I don't get a new .RDT :uhh: so far I've been using the .SCD values with ps1 emulators along with Cheat Engine because the ps1 temporary stores the unpacked .RDT .SCD's upon entering a new room, I tried doing this with PC too but it didn't work, it must read the .RDT's directly as binary data instead for the PC version or something.
Also another glitch on the PC version if you hack how many items slots a item takes up in real time it crashes the game ;-( this doesn't happen on the ps1 version.

Not really looked at it, but the problem with the enemies not taking damage when they "rise again" sounds like an issue with their hit points possibly not resetting as they rise. (Which means their death is triggered when HP hits "zero," not when it is "zero." Where zero = target value for death)

Attempt a character modifier, it's the wrong address but it kinda works

When you start the game Ada doesn't have any weapon equipped so you have to do it manually off the inventory.
The Knife turns into Handgun when equipped that Leon holds sideways whilst in his alternative costume, if you uni-equip the knife then equip the handgun, the handgun will turn into the calico950 also the game goes into a strange inescapable walking animation loop when Kendo has finished talking in the gunshop.

Doesn't crash the game but instead just loads Leon's model & texture as normal o_o

A few years ago, when I was on Bioflames (and Bioflames was a little more active), I got inspired by Mark Grass to learn how to make GameShark codes for the PlayStation Resident Evil games, and I made some interesting codes. I was able to make large pools of blood underneath the zombies in RE1, take away items/weapons/health from areas in RE3 to make it harder, removed the white fade that happens when you die to see an extended death scene, and I was able to lock the camera angles, plus other things too.

I don't have any GS codes currently. I gave up on it because everyone was big into the PC modding, and I really didn't think anyone was interested in GS codes anymore, but I do remember how I made those codes, so it wouldn't be hard for me to get them again. I remember some of the codes I posted in the past were obsolete.

If I have some free time, I might see if I can do some code searching, and yes I will release the codes if you want them.

I apologize if this wasn't obvious enough, but what exactly are you all using to get the AR / Game Shark codes to work on the emulator? Also, what is a good hex editor to use for hacking PS1 games on said emulator? I'm a noob at this.

I'm using the latest ePSXe emulator.

Also, how are some you able to figure out what works in the game code-wise?

You should be able to use an add-on known as "PEC" (PSX Emulation Cheater) (within the emulator settings, select it for the graphics/audio, then use your normal settings within the set-up menu for it).

I think you could use really any general hex editor for it (of course, just taking a guess at that).

It's one of the few image editing tools I know of which do not break PSX ISO's.
I don't know of an official site where you can download it, but you should be able to find the program with the help of google.

First of all hello world and great release!
I know a lot of you people from lurking the bioflames forum so I want to say thanks for all your endeavors and knowledge on the trial.
However there is one thing that i have always been wondering:

1) How do you get such cheat codes as for example the hidden Memory Card or Difficulty setting with pec ? I know how to get basic stuff like ammo or lifes but I would not know how to search for such an entry even if i suspected it to exist.
(Which in this case is pretty easy to believe to exist since it has a .tim file displaying everything you hacked out.) Since some of the coolest PSX game code hacks that i know of come from you guys it would be pretty cool and a general blessing to the BETA community if anyone would shed some light on this. Sometimes I wish the FF7 Trial would get as much attention as BH2 Trial but I think there is not that much interesting stuff on it given its size....

2) One thing that I have always wondered about is the fourth "interactive" block in the inventory in BH2 Trial. You know like : Use, Examine, Combine, Grayed Out. Going to COMMON/DATA/ has two files that are interesting: ST1 which might be an leftover Inventory from BH 1.5 but maybe can be hacked out again? ST_FILE which displays commands not accessible in the Trial. One being Partner and the other one i cannot read. I guess that those are blocked out commands in the Inventory like in they did with the title screen as can be concluded from the .tim files. Maybe someone from you might take a closer look at that?

also, to anyone interested in playing this with a ps3 sixaxis or ds3, there's signed drivers out now for win7 (previously you had to disable driver signature enforcement) http://www.hardcoreware.net/how-to-playstation-3-controller-64-bit-windows-7-vista/ with the DS3 Tool you can map controller buttons to keyboard keys easily.
