Capcom's Kobayashi Hints at Resident Evil: ORC Surprises for Xbox 360 Players

UK product manager Karl Reader said: "Consumers are buying brands they can trust. The Resident Evil brand is synonymous with high production values and quality gaming experiences. We have an extensive DLC plan to further that longevity.

The story of the day - How much ORC is being hated on by the critics!

1. Computer and Videogames just published an article on this issue:


We slapped a 6.3 on the end of our review, noting that while multiplayer can provide some passable entertainment, the game ultimately falls far short of expectations. "The perks are dull, shooting is flimsy, enemies are meaty shoot-bags, levels are unvaried and tension is minimal," we said.

Some reviewers agreed, with similar scores. Others push the knife in a bit further an opt for more cutthroat verdicts.

Here's a round-up:

GamesRadar: 3 - The potential for something special was present from the start, and many figured it would be akin to Left 4 Dead for the BioHazard set. Sadly, this isn't the case. Not only is Raccoon City not in the same league as Left 4 Dead, it's not even a decent Resident Evil game.

OXM: 7.0 - Some diehard Resident Evil fans may be disappointed by Raccoon City for sapping the survival-horror soul out of the series. But the game's satisfying blend of gunplay and teamwork, coupled with its cool references to past Resident Evil games, make revisiting the perilous streets of Raccoon City worth the trip. Even with its failings, Raccoon City keeps the action rolling along; just make sure you bring some buddies to help you slaughter all the undead.

OPM: 7 - For the large part, whether offline or on, Operation RC manages to successfully inject old skool Resi charm into an enjoyably frenetic shooter. If the idea of battling rooms full of stretchy-tongued monstrosities with athletic controls in iconic surroundings has your Umbrella sense tingling, this is well worth a look.

Destructoid: 7.5 - Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City suffers from poor design and sometimes doesn't quite seem to "get" the point of the style it wishes to emulate, but that doesn't stop it from being a genuinely good time that should satisfy anybody looking for a hardcore romp. As a challenging rollercoaster ride through an iconic fictional catastrophe, Raccoon City provides hours of violent fun interspersed with some exasperated cries of aggravation.

IGN: 4.0/10 - The terrible AI, the lackluster locations and the complete lack of atmosphere or memorable characters destroy what could have been a brilliant offshoot. In the end, Operation Raccoon City is little more than a poor man's SOCOM, and a destitute man's Resident Evil.

Game Informer: 6.00 - It's difficult recommending a return to Raccoon when you have to endure buggy AI, clunky gameplay, and terrible glitches like disappearing floors. Not even online play is enough to of a reason to warrant checking out this botched experiment with the Resident Evil brand.

Eurogamer: 4/10 - Operation Raccoon City is an under-designed and under-produced nightmare, a game that delivers the bare minimum in every category and stops right there.

Videogamer: 4/10 - Quite why this game even exists is a bit of a mystery. Surely nobody out there is demanding a creaky Left 4 Dead rip-off set in a cardboard-box recreation of the Resident Evil universe, but that hasn't stopped Capcom from diluting and cheapening its strongest brand.

When Capcom announced that they would be spinning the Resident Evil franchise into a new direction with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, fans had high hopes for the squad based multiplayer-centric shooter. With a development team in place that has produced popular online shooters in the past, it seemed like a sure fire hit. Unfortunately, game critics haven't been so kind to Capcom's latest.

With aggregated reviews hovering only slightly above 50, this could be one of the biggest flops of 2012...so far.

Well, I saw this rumor a day or two ago but it seems to be picking up steam... even the guys at RelyonHorror got into it:


Resident Evil: The Mercenaries Bio Ops may or may not be coming to the Wii U’s eShop, since this is still just a rumor. But if this is in fact legit, then I’m sure we’ll get an official reveal at this year’s E3, where Nintendo is set to reveal everything consumers want to know abot their new console.

My take on this: They seem to believe that this rumored Mercenaries game is the 3DS game.... however, there was yet another Mercenaries game that was recently released on the GREE platform (Resident Evil Mercenaries VS). It probably is THAT game and not the 3DS one. Since I doubt Nintendo is going to try to steal the thunder of an exclusive 3DS game by porting it to Wii U's eShop.

As you know, Capcom has always been a globally-minded publisher with very involved localization processes, so this is not a position for n00bs. However, if you think you've got the right stuff, you should definitely reach out!

'Survival horror' market too small for Resident Evil, says Capcom producer...

"Especially for the North American market, I think the series needs to head in that [action-oriented] direction," Kawata said. "[Resident Evil's primary games] need to be an extension of the changes made in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.

"So we have our numbered series, and we can say we have a more adventure-oriented version, like a Revelations-style game. And we also have Operation: Raccoon City, which is a third-person shooter.

"So I think that by extending the market in this sense, we can still have the numbered titles keep their identity about what Resident Evil is supposed to be, but still expand and hit other markets as well."

Operation Raccoon City dev says: "Mission accomplished"


Slant Six Studio producer Mike Kerr told Eurogamer that while Slant Six would like to have seen higher review scores, it's confident that it has achieved what publisher Capcom originally asked it to do.

"[The critical reception] seems to be fairly polarised," Kerr admitted.

"In the end, I think our position on it is that we read every review and we try to pull out all the constructive feedback that we can so we can learn a little about what people liked and what they didn't.

I missed this May 30th update on the comment made by Kawata in a Nintendo Power interview in regards of the possibility of Barry Burton making it to Resident Evil: Revelations by way of a DLC (actually, with April Fools Day in the way, I was trying to avoid most news bits).

Here's an update on that story:

They have also announced four rather delicious looking drinks to be sold for a limited-time only at the CAPCOM Bar in Shinjuku, Tokyo, from April 26 to May 25. From the point of view of someone who loves the Resident Evil series like no other, one word best describes Resident Evil 6 to me: "overwhelming."

To briefly describe my dedication to RE, I play every version of every game in the series, except for obscure mobile versions. I play them in English and in Japanese. While I'm not the most competitive player ever, I've beaten every RE countless times and have amassed an unreasonably large collection of RE games from all over the world. Supposedly Claire is going to be in a new RE game

Sorry to post this under the Resident Evil 6 forum, but since it kinda relates to Resident Evil 6, I thought I'd post this hear.

On Digital Spy, there were reports about the alleged existence of "Resident Evil: Degeneration-Damnation-Downfall 3D". The title would appear at the end of this year and accordingly, it would contain Degeneration and Damnation in CG technology, and with the possibility of the Nintendo consoles you could see these two movies in 3D. Initial reports indicate that Downfall would be a new game that takes place between the events of Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. The player would control Claire Redfield who would witness the "downfall" of humanity. The information was quickly removed from the website and Capcom has not confirmed anything yet. E3 takes place during June 5-7. If Downfall is real, it would probably be officially announced then.

I took a look around on Digital Spy and the website seems to be a very reliable source for new info pertaining to movies, games, etc. I've asked Alyson twice, Digital Spy once, and Capcom once (all over Twitter), and none of them have responded to me.

Was watching E3 coverage on G4 and they confirmed that Claire will be returning in RE6!!

No he didn't. I was watching it too. Kevin Pereira(the interviewer) said people moan every time an RE game comes out because their favorite character wasn't in it, and he said they can't complain about RE6 because "everyone" is in it, clearly alluding to the six-person main cast and large scale of the game. The name 'Claire' was never even mentioned. The Capcom rep was the same localization guy from the video that Elusion posted above.

Three online modes will provide a new way to play

London – September 11, 2012 - Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, is pleased to confirm that the Resident Evil™ 6 experience will be further enhanced with the release of new modes and additional content following the launch of this highly anticipated title on home consoles this October 2.

Available as downloadable content, three new gameplay modes will expand on the multiplayer elements available in the retail version and deliver new and exciting ways to enjoy the world of Resident Evil 6.

Survivors Mode takes the classic solo- and team-based versus mode and adds a twist. Get killed and you respawn as an enemy character with the ability to attack the human characters. Take down two human characters to resurrect in human form. Last man or team standing wins.

In Predator Mode, one player takes on the role of the Ustanak, the fearsome B.O.W. that stalks Jake Muller throughout his campaign, and tries to eliminate the human players. The humans’ task: stop the deadly B.O.W. in its tracks, or at least survive until the end of the session.

Choosing the human side in Siege Mode will see players protecting a single NPC, while as a member of the enemy team, players will need to eliminate that same NPC. If the NPC is still alive at the end of the time period, the human team win.

Survivors, Predator and Siege modes will all support up to six players online and be played using maps from Mercenaries Mode.

Players will be able to track their accomplishments in these three modes alongside their main campaign statistics and compare their performance with others by registering on Resident Evil.Net, the free online service that launches alongside Resident Evil 6.

Further post-launch downloadable content for Resident Evil 6 will include additional maps for Mercenaries, which can in turn then be used as maps for Survivors, Predator and Siege modes, plus other items yet to be announced.

Resident Evil 6 PC edition not launching for quite a while.



The console versions of Capcom's much-anticipated zombie shooter Resident Evil 6 will hit store shelves in two weeks, but gamers holding out for the PC version will need to wait a while longer. Capcom senior vice president Christian Svensson has confirmed through the Capcom Unity blog that work did not begin on the PC version until the console iterations were completed and approved by Microsoft and Sony.

He said Capcom did not begin on a PC version of Resident Evil 6 earlier because waiting until the console versions were complete allowed the developer to use the final codebase as a starting point.

"It will be some time still before we provide details on release dates and PC specific parameters," Svensson said.

The executive revealed that a "small, but appropriately sized" team is working on Resident Evil 6 for PC. He said it is a different group than had been originally planned, but he claimed this team will "do a better job."

Lastly, Svensson spoke to some gamers' belief that Capcom does not put enough effort into its PC games. He said though this may have been the case before, it won't be for Resident Evil 6.

"Projects like this you guys seem to think are 'trivial' but they are not," he said. "When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC… which I don't think too many true fans were pleased with."

No, it's not April Fools or some devious troll - the L4D2 cast is indeed set to appear in Resident Evil 6's "No Mercy" mode, exclusive to PC. That means Coach, Ellis, Rochelle and Nick will fight zombies, J'avo and... wait, what's that...

The Witch! Whooooaa now this is getting interesting. And how about... no way...

The Mini-Tank! All of this arrives on RE6 PC completely FREE on April 5. I'll give everyone (myself included) a moment to catch their breath.

Each L4D2 character comes equipped with a specific loadout created just for RE6 Mercenaries: No Mercy, and those Special Infected will haunt the RE6 cast as well. So, if you ever wanted to see Leon take out the Witch or Ada prance around the Tank, now's your chance.

And then this spring, RE6 enemies will leap into L4D2 - namely Lepotitsa, Napad and Ogroman. Valve's own devs worked on integrating these baddies into the game, but what about getting Leon, Chris and the rest of the cast into L4D2? Well that's where you come in.

I'm a huge, huge L4D fan, having spent something like 200 hours in L4D1 and maybe 300 in L4D2 (I did review it back in 2009, btw), so seeing this crossover into Mercenaries - one of my favorite "minigames" of all time - is a magical moment. Hope you all feel the same when it arrives on April 5!

Resident Evil 6 PC Left 4 Dead 2 Enemy Exclusives :

As announced last week, four of L4D2’s Survivors - Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle – will be playable characters in the PC exclusive Mercenaries No Mercy mode, with The Witch and Mini Tank appearing as additional enemies for players to take down, regardless of whether a character from Left 4 Dead 2 or Resident Evil 6 is chosen. This new and exclusive content is free and will automatically be downloaded in the background to all owners of the PC version of Resident Evil 6 from April 5.

Well, its official. We can now lump Resident Evil 6 with other entries from the main series that didn't meet Capcom's lofty expectations (Resident Evil Zero and Revelations).


During the fiscal year, flagship game Resident Evil 6 sold 4.9 million units, failing to meet Capcom's initial projection of seven million units shipped.

It even fell short from Capcom's revised numbers: 5 million.
