What was the hardest puzzle/boss fight for you in past RE games. For me it was without a doubt, the water puzzle in RE3. Other than that, it was fighting U-3 and Krauser's final form on Pro Mode in RE4.

It was either the Tyrant plane fight or Nosferatu in CV, or the Mendez boss in RE4.

I have to agree with you on the water puzzle I never understood it until like 3 years ago i would always have to ask someone for help.

For Bosses: As many others have said, definitely one of them being the Tyrant plane fight in CV. To be more original however, another boss I remember being a real bitch for me was Thanatos from Outbreak, sucker killed off my team one by one. Didn't help that I didn't have internet on my PS2 at the time so I had to deal with AI controlled teammates. The only two other bosses I can think of that actually gave me trouble the first time and resulted in multiple deaths were Birkin's 4th "dog" form in RE2 and Salazar in RE4.
For Puzzles: Definitely the water one in RE3, that was just a complete bitch. :\ Other than that, only other one that mixed me up a few times was the art room puzzle in RE1... Resulted in quiet a few deaths due to crows because of that.

I think most of us will agree that the water treatment puzzle in RE3 was the most difficult puzzle. As for boss fights, a few from the Outbreak games (on Very Hard mode) were insanely difficult. However, from the main games I would have to pick the Tyrant from CVX in the plane, Birkin's crazy dog form with spikes at the end of RE2's "A" scenario, and probably the clock tower Nemesis.
I found the bosses in RE4 and RE5 (sans Krauser on Professional Mode) to be insanely easy once you got the hang of the fight. However, I'm not counting RE5's Professional Mode bosses, because that was nuts.

That water puzzle took the piss in RE3 the first few times but since RE3 is my fave in the series, I've played it the most and now I can do the water puzzle very quickly. :)
Still the Clock Tower puzzle with the 3 clocks and oval objects gets to me.
Hardest boss fight...
Probably trying to fight the Nemesis in the Clock Tower after he's mutated with Carlos. I know it's completely optional but I would consider it a boss fight if attempted.

The only RE puzzles I remember really struggling with for some reason was the animal candle fountain thingy in RE0 and the clock puzzle in RE outbreak F1, in the university. I did struggle with the turning the valve in RE:DS but that was cos of the stylus.
Krauser was always an arse for me till I found that knifing him was a lot easier. Nemesis was a problem for me in 3 till I learnt how to shoot him with the pistol. The only boss I really consider a pain now is the El Gigante from 5 as you can't move and he has friends.

Outbreak File #2. For some reason I can't grasp the game makes me it's bitch.
If you're playing it offline it's proper tough s*** on anything above normal because of the shoddy AI. It all depends on the scenario aswell, in File #2 I struggled with the first two scenarios, I just barely beat Wild Things on my first attempt (99% infection) and died on Underbelly on my first attempt because I didn't know there was a timer on the train. I'm just so used to having a timer appear if there's a time limit because of the main games :rollseyes. Yet when I played the third scenario; Flashback, on my first attempt I beat it fairly easy with about 60% infection just a minute shy of an hour, but then again that scenario was pretty much straight forward.
I now only play the Outbreak with infinite ammo because it's just too frustrating to play without it. If I was playing online with 3 other real people then it would be a different story because team work would actually come into play and make the game allot easier.

Tyrant in the original US version...no auto-aim so I ran around scared until Brad tossed the Rocket Launcher.
The puzzle in Resident Evil I want to say the B3 Lab where the painting on the wall had the Futhark runes containing the password was by far the easiest...The Alligator in RE2 I used to dump loads of ammo into until I figured out you could use the tank and a couple bullets to blast his head off.

Why do so many people find water puzzle from RE3 so hard? It was pretty easy and enjoyable puzzle for me - all you need to do was sliding each row until all three rows summed together give you in result the fourth row.
I really dislike the puzzle with clocks in RE3 however - I've never get the system how it works and always put those stones randomly until I solve it ;D.
As for bosses, until my friend told me to use anti-BOWs rounds, it was Tyrant on plane in CV. Man, the first time I was playing the game I managed to beat him after fourth or fifth try D:

For me it was the original with the Yawn in the attic. Didn't realize you could just run past him. Then it would have to be Nemesis on Hard in the Trolley. If he knocked you down once you were dead.

The water treatment puzzle is the hardest puzzle for me, and the hardest boss fight is definitely the plane Tyrant in CVX. Ndesu is a little baby compared to him.

RE1 - Pictures in the gallery
RE4 - Turnable pictures of hangings
RE4 - The dial thing with family tombstones

^ I agree, but the Dial puzzle near the church can be a real pain unless you figure out the srategy from a walkthrough guide, after that it's no problem. The art gallery puzzle in RE1 has always been one of my favorites, so I have mastered both the original and the remake versions over the years. After someone mentioned it, I do remember now that the animal statue puzzle in RE0 was quite a pain in the ass for me, especially when there's freaking hunters galore.

Anything in RE: Outbreak File 2 on Hard/Very Hard. ANYTHNG. I agree with words said earlier, that game is a bitch.
The CV tyrant in a plane...I agree also.
The spider in the original RE is giving me a LOT of trouble. Oo
RE4's Salazar kept spamming his instant death attack until I learned to just rush and jump down when he uses it. But I was PISSED before that, I kept dying. ><

Any puzzle is easy once you know how to complete it, i'm talking about first playthroughs where you don't have a built strategy to complete things it's all new ground so you try out every logical possibility "trial and error" until you've cracked it at least I do or am I just just super thick? maybe you have a super IQ that enables you crack puzzles within a millisecond, I dunno.

There's a glitch in that fight where you can just stand in the right corner of the upper platform; the Salazar monster's head attacks can't reach you here. You'll have to shoot the big tentacle into the wall and dodge it when it reemerges, but from here you have a great shot at the little eye on the monster's head.

I've never completed a knife only run before...so I guess that would be considered one of my biggest challenges. And I have to agree with Kevstah....Ashley's slider puzzle was probably the most difficult puzzle in RE4. I actually got it fairly quickly the first time...but on several playthroughs I forgot which direction I should move things and would end up spending a lot of time on trying to solve it.

The Water Treatment puzzle was not exactly easy. Because you needed to pay attention to the little bar thingies and that way you could figure out how to solve it.
The animal puzzle in Zero was basically the same thing. You just focus on it for a bit.

Yeah, honestly, that stupid puzzle during Ashley's section of RE4 really fucks me up. I've always sucked at those kind of slider puzzles, and no matter how many times I read over the strategy for that puzzle, I just can't remember it. I hate it.
But, overall, the most complicated puzzle for me was indeed the water puzzle in RE3. Also, the puzzle in the clock tower threw me off as well, but it's not as complicated as it used to be when I was younger.
I miss puzzles, though!
Boss fight wise... Maybe Nosferatu? First time I played, I was constantly being thrown off the platform. It was so annoying. Also, more recently, Jill and Wesker fight on Professional Mode. I still hold so much anger in my soul for how complicated that was with the A.I., oh sweet lord.

Rocket launcher.
I don't know if I'd call that a glitch... :D
My biggest challenge was
- Code Veronica X with A-Ranking
- Collecting all Special Objekts in RE Outbreak 1 & 2 (offline :D)
That plane tyrant fffffffffff. STILL PISSES ME OFF. ;o;
I also hated that water level puzzle as well, because I suck at lot at puzzles like that.

I always remembered liking the challenge of the crate puzzle in RE0 - the one with the grate that has to be rotated as well.
Probably not my biggest challenge but. VH Outbreak scenarios take the cake for that. I think Desperate times is probably the hardest scenario of all.
Rock it.

Booting up the original Gun Survivor would be my biggest challenge, ever. That game was bad back in the day, but it's downright unplayable today.

Code Veronica was the hardest for me (for some reason?) it took me months to beat it even with a FAQ.. I couldn't figure out where to get the gold and silver keys.
Weirdly enough, the water puzzle wasn't that hard for me.
These days, Outbreak File #2 on Very Hard w/o codes offline with No Damage clear.
Flashback is the hardest scenario for me, I always get hit by those damn rocks falling.
Wild Things is 100% impossible even getting No Damage clear on Normal difficulty. Let alone Hard/Very Hard. It's mostly the AI that screws me up and causes me to take damage. Plus by the end of the scenario the AI players are all dead, too.

I never struggled with Salazar. I went in with magnum equipped backed against the wall, shot his eye then unloaded every magnum round I had into Salazar. He died pretty easily for me. Now Mendez was a bitch.
Outbreak File 2 was a lot of fun online when people weren't being arses. I kinda disliked file 1 cos us Ukers didn't have an online mode for that.

I'm pretty sure it's impossible to not get hit by the rocks during the boss battle in Flashback, at least in offline mode.
I think I had a no damage clear on Wild Things offline. Not sure of the difficulty, though. My brother has my PS2 with him at the other end of the country!

REOB2 : VH Desparate times was rough goin for me till I watched a few vids an got some tips on how to do it.
Offline solo was the way to do it the Ai was just too dumb, and online well all sorts of things went wrong online with it.
RECV : Knife only run still can't beat it stuck on the plane with tyrant.
I burn too many of my healing items coming up to this point of the game.
I would assume this and the Nosferatu fight to be the toughest parts of the game with knife only.

Sometimes I enjoy a "knife and occasional rocket launcher" run. However, after the first hour or so of gameplay, I tend to just use the rocket launcher on everything that is bigger than me, with the knife typically relegated to tiny insect duty.

The clock puzzle always pissed me off in RE3, as mentioned quite a bit. How can anyone remember all the different combos of the stones with the clocks? I never had the patience for it either because everytime you go to place a stone it always prompts you "Place XXXXXX stone?"
The water quality puzzle was fun though, although I don't know how an 8-bit melody has anything to do with signifying the quality of the water...I found it to be challenging but somewhat fun to do like the circuit board puzzles in the first Dino Crisis.
In RE4 on Profession mode, the room in the castle where you have to do the cranks was really hard for me. I think I was pretty ill-equiped at the time, but I had to do it at least 10 times I think.
I'll also echo the tyrant on the plane in RE:CV. His little slide move was a real killer IIRC. Making sure you have the BOW gas rounds makes it much easier. Also Nemesis in the courtyard of the RPD is impossible unless you have great dodging skills against nemesis, and not just the game-assisted dodging.

Gravedigger first encounter. That pissed me off to the point where I nearly threw my controller at the wall.No herbs on hard mode and on a tiny sliver of fine condition still managed to one hit kill me.
My very fight with the Ivans and T.A.L.O.S in UC,all those times I died was because I had no more machine pistol ammo.

I would expect the hardest one for me would be the rocket launcher in CV(X). I've never tried to get it, but I couldn't imagine planning for it either.
I decided to make a run for it about a year ago, since it was pretty much the only thing I hadn't done in the RE games. I had the GameCube version, so I cheated a little by opening the lid occasionally to stop the game clock so I could get my head straight and plan things out. Considering you can only save once (when you switch discs after the plane Tyrant fight), I was extremely frightened that I would die at the Tyrant or the first Alexia battle and have to redo hours of work. The most tense part for me was trying to hit Alexia with the linear launcher - I never used to have a problem doing it, but of course, during the speed run was where I got into trouble. I must have hit her with less than a minute left on the destruction clock.
The funny part is that the rocket launcher isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread. You can only aim it horizontally, so it's useless against enemies like dogs, grounded zombies, bats, and (I believe) spiders. Also, you only have one launcher, so you have to leave it in the item box for Chris and can't use it during the Nosferatu battle. Lame.
I would have liked to have an infinite ammo option for CVX. Hell, Remake and RE4, too. Just for fun.
Walking around with that extremely combustible battery thing in REmake was a bit hard for me.

The chimeras aren't infinite; you can eliminate them from the power rooms before you make the nitro journey. This makes life a lot easier! Just watch out for those sparks in the hallway before the first power room.

Well, it seems I have a new addition to add to the list. I finally got around to doing a Pro mode run on RE5 since I'm very close to obtaning the platinum trophy...and it's exactly what I expected, but worse lol. I heard many tales from Dot and others about the difficulty of Ndesu, etc. However, what I didn't expect was dying after barely getting touched. A.I. Sheva is shit(as we all know), and when she's not dying every 5 seconds than she's staring at me like a moron when I'm dying. I thought it would be easier than RE4 pro mode since you can use all your infinite weapons and such, but damn.
