  • Automatic YouTube/Video streaming FLV sites?

    I think it'd be nice if you could you could embed Youtube videos into threads/posts. I use an addon for my vBulletin board called "passiveVid". Just by posting the link to a YouTube video, the addon does the rest. I do believe it is compatible with your software version, so you might look into it.

    It works with the following video-streaming sites. (Any of which can be disabled in the ACP.)

    Code:
    [SPOILER]	YouTube
    	Google
    	MySpace
    	MetaCafe
    	Yahoo
    	Koreus
    	Sapo
    	LiveLeak
    	GameTrailers
    	StreetFire
    	VEOH
    	MyVideo
    	GameSpot
    	Stage6
    	SevenLoad
    	Izlesene
    	Vidiac
    	Xtube
    	Vidmax
    	Redtube
    	Onsmash
    	GodTube
    	PornoTube
    	PhotoBucket
    	BrightCove
    	YouKu
    	LiveVideo
    	Break
    	Expert Village[/SPOILER]
    Note that this is only a suggestion and by no means any way of advertisement.

    If you want an example, I can link you.

        Lulz... I can't tell if that was sarcasm or if that is a real consideration.

          Well you know everyone thinks of that first, because someone posted a suggestion.

            It depends a bit.

            We'd have to do a lot of internal testing/tweaking before adding any type of support for integration of stuff like that.

            We've got a tiny exception system we can use for stuff we post on the front page, if we absolutely need to post something "streaming", but in general it's blocked both 'cause we want to keep things a little bit simple, and also because there (sadly enough) are a lot of people who have a lot of growing up to do.

            It's almost always just a matter of time before someone feels the need to go nuts and starts abusing it to spam a bunch of stuff (and if "possible" something that abuses a tiny glitch in the integration code that could evt. cause crashes to the forums or create other unwanted effects...)

              Bump!

              Okay. As some might've noticed, a couple of youtube videos have snuck in lately on the boards.

              You can now embed youtube videos by first taking the URL for the video;
              The SquareSoft segment of the PlayStation 2 themed What's Next? Aug. 1999 video, feat. Kazuyuki Hashimoto, taken from the 2nd disc of PlayPlay Vol. 19.The t...

              Then copying out the video ID portion;

              Hd1zR-nxcPE

              Then wrapping it into the following tags

              [youtube]Hd1zR-nxcPE[ /youtube]
              and posting this should give you something that looks like this;
              YouTube video:

              I'll probably increase the resolution to standard youtube resolution soon. Anyway, the spoiler tags prevents the video from loading without the user clicking the button. Ensuring that any user who does not want youtube/flash embedded on the site hopefully wont be pestured by it (unless they click on a youtube button on the on forums)
