It should be higher, really. Some of the other choices at the top are kind of WTF, honestly.

Top 20 is still great though i say, when you put it into perspective and think of how many video games have ever been made.

But, it's my favourite game of all time. I'd argue the toss out of it that it should be number one. But on here, it never gets you anywhere. And at leat with the majority of the games above it i can at least see why people might rate it above RE4.

You two are right, RE4 should be higher. Funny that I remember EGM's Top 200 list, RE4 was like number 46, and that was a few years ago. This list is certainly more accurate in regard to RE4's stature, but eh, yeah, list will always be different from mag to mag, and people to people. A top 200 is rather pointless really.

And it's a shame Eternal Darkness is so low on the list. That game is WICKED!

(And COD4 does NOT belong so high on that list. Sorry.)

(And MGS2 ranked at 50, yet number four is ranked at 108, and the 3rd one is ranked near the end the least. Now THAT is ridiculous.)

I think the bigger travesty is the fact that MGS4 is even on that list.

Gotta disagree with you completely on that one, lol. But you know, different boats for different folks. Personally, I hate list like that, and wish the game media would instead just do a list of "greatest games of all time" category, with the games in no particular order. A ranked list is going to be different for every individual. It'd be more fun to focus on why a game belongs as "one of the best" versues what rank should it be.

Interestingly, I counted that I've only played about 48 of the games on that list.

The only one that caught my eye that I STRONGLY disagree with is Final Fantasy XII, mainly because VIII isn't there at all.

I don't know from any first hand experience, but isn't Final Fantasy VIII considered a really bad game or something? Not saying it is, but I thought, much like how VII is loved up and down and all over the place, that VIII was the opposite of that.

The only FF I've ever played is X, and it was alright.

It seems to me that some games are on that list because they had a huge impact, not necessary because they're actually a great game today. That's not really consistent when they imply "greatest games ever" versus "most important games ever made." That's almost two different sets of critera, and mixing them together doesn't make much sense. A well made game is a well made game, regardless of how popular it is. (ICO, anyone?)

People hate on FFVIII because it came after the almighty (and extremely overrated) FFVII and because the story was pretty whack. I love FFVIII because the characters and gameplay system were the best I'd ever seen in a FF game. The Junction system, the card battle game, Guardian Forces, all of these were my favorite gameplay elements I've seen in FF games.

I have to say the list is a bit wonky.
There's like some sort of mixture of "Still good", "Hype machine", "Once upon a time revolutionized" and just "Good at the time"

Agree. To a certain degree I don't think MGS3 belongs very high up on that list either.

If people think MGS4 should be there, then I suppose they better get Konami to actually release a game patch for it or something. Last time I checked, Dragon's Lair was a more interactive experience than MGS4 and all there really was was a string of dragging cutscenes and an online component that just wasn't as fun as that of the previous game...

Utterly agreed. In terms of an interactive cinematic experience, MGS4 is incredible. As a game? No. Not at all.

I'm glad that RE4 is #18 and RE5 is nowhere to be found.

Although, I would have listed Code Veronica in there. It seems like everyone either loves or hates that game...
                              Mass production? Ridiculous!
