What button config do you use? By default 1+2 are punches and 5+6 are kicks, 7 is guard and 3 grab.

I find this horrible, the block just feels wrong there and combining the punches/kicks with block for the power-specials is awkward at best.

I was thinking of switching block to 5 and shifting the kicks over one place, or perhaps switch the entire top row to PPKK.

A button to block is so annoying.

That annoyed me with Uncharted, pre-order bonuses I do not mind going on PSN store for a price but I paid extra for the Uncharted 2 CE and then a few months later they took the exclusive characters and bundled them into the map/character packs meaning when I bought the maps I was paying again for characters I already paid for.

How do you manage to do the super special attacks easily, hitting 2 and 7 at once for instance is just a bogus hand configuration and angle. 1 and 7 is even worse.

Is why I'm trying with block on 5, since it is easier to use the thumb in combination with top row.

I honestly don't think 360 will be getting an exclusive character, rather some kind of content like stages or game modes. With the games release being less than a month away and almost nothing revealed about the 360 exclusives, it's almost like they're trying to avoid showing us it until after launch. If anything a 360 character will probably be a DLC release.

Alan Wake was good.

Quite a good deal if you ask me, and the Sky Player is good on the 360 (I used it to watch Mad Dogs on Sky player recently) so you do save some money out of that. At least you now got a choice for what ports to get via multiplatform and the content Microsoft normally does on XBL (and especially XBLA) service is a lot better than PSN in my opinion. Glad to see more Alan Wake love.

If you've ever played the first three MK games, there's really nothing you have to learn. I don't really like comparing MK to SF/MvC since those are more "advanced" fighting games. MK has always been a pretty easy and fun series. To me, this looks like it's going to be the best MK ever, it's just major nostalgia from the older games.

You know...I have to ask this:

Since UMK3 Reptile has had green blood, so did Sheeva, but none of the other Shokans having green blood. I remember Sheeva had red blood in Armageddon as well, but reptile has always had green blood.

So does this mean that since this game is essentially based off MK3 That SHeeva and the other Shokans will have green blood? Or will just Reptile and Sheeva have green blood?

This just a little weird OCD though I've had and its been kind of nagging on my mind and I just gotta get it out there, whats the point of making a separate blood type if its only used for one character? I know that its just a color coding thing and all, but it seems kind of counter productive to do in the first place.

Uhh, EA gives you 2 days. I bought NFS: Hot Pursuit used and it says "start 2 day free trial" not start 7 day full trial.

This doesn't bother me due to the fact that I buy my games new 97% of the time. Its very seldom I buy my games used.

Anyway about this two day trial thing if you wait long enough the game'll be on sale and the ten dollars for the pass'll be nothing compared to getting it for like half price anyway if you wait long enough . . . Just keep some money spare. I agree with this move cause it means they get something back outta pre-owned sales and it's not much really . . . hell if you buy the game reduced from a supermarket (as they are quick to do over here at least) odds are it'll have the code with it anyway. I got Alan Wake for £10 just before xmas from Asda/Wallmart and it had the DLC code for the Signal with it and they still charge 25 for it in Game et all, pre-owned and most likely without the code.

Supermarkets rule when it comes to buying games . . .

I must admit, I was a massive Mortal Kombat fan back in the day but completely lost the interest around Mortal Kombat Trilogy/Mortal Kombat 4 era.

But I tried the demo to the new one the other day and I must say, it's one of the most fun and awesome fighters i've played in a long long time, and has completely piqued my interest in this series again.

I downloaded the demo a couple weeks ago. Sorry, but this game doesn't hold a candle to either MvC3 or SSF4. Movement is slow and clunky as all hell. Nice graphics though-preformed a fatality on Milenna with Sub-Zero's torso rip. . .but I just shrugged. Nothing impressive seen here. . .but I'll probably pick it up eventually for say, $20 bucks? Having a ton of extra features and mini-games such is good and all, but it really doesn't do much good when the gameplay itself pales in comparison. (And to be fair, MvC3 is most certainly light on so-called *features*)

Well yeah, this demo is old. Its from E3 of last year. Its been worked on for about a year now. And how is it clunky? I've have yet to have any problems. It took me about 1 match to get the controls down. I'm not seeing how you weren't impressed with the fatalities. They're better than anything the last 3-4 games have shit out.

Err... What? o_o I guess you haven't played MK at all, because ALL titles have at least an introduction with story. And starting from MK: Deadly Alliance, games have been story-driven. It isn't the best storytelling I've seen on games, but for a fighting game it's quite good.

If it's a year-old build, then it raises the question--why release a demo that's not an accurate build of the improved, "final" product? I mean, game demos are known sometimes to have slight framerate problems or other such odds or ends, but the demo really doesn't have any problem in those departments. My problem is the foundation of the game. The fighting mechanics are just so cumbersome. It's not like I didn't play a handful of matches. The game itself just isn't smooth, or slick--it's cumbersome, just like the original Mortal Kombat games.

It's certainly better made than back in the day, but there's a reason Street Fighter is considered (or Capcom in general) the "King of Fighters." The two games, aren't in the same league as far as combat options, strategy, counters. This game seems to be about the classic MK style of "Spam special move, spam special move, high kick, high kick, uppercut, spam special move," or memorizing tedious long button specific combos for characters to pull off those shown in the teaser trailers for the vids. It's just not good fighting game design. Period. But I'm not saying this is a TERRIBLE GAME, or even a BAD game. I think Ed Boon and co have certainly put alot of effort into the total, and that they genuinely care. (I've always liked Ed Boon). They care about the fans--but I can't help but feel how shallow the gameplay is. It's almost second thought to the violence and gore. Honestly, for my money, Deadly Alliance is better(oh yeah, I just went there buddy).

And, you mention why I don't like the fatalities--I just don't care about them. Them or the X-Ray moves. There gimmicks that are going to get old pretty fast. Back in 1993, MK level of violence was truly shocking to video games. Today, it's not really anything we haven't seen already. And to add to that, the original games themselves, with their digitized actor graphics, have a certain charm about them that feels lost. Excessive, over-the-top violence only goes so far(and it really doesn't go far with me to begin with in terms of being the draw instead of the gameplay itself). Again, give me Deadly Alliance--the gameplay in that felt more organic than this.

I mean, I know why you like this game. You really, really love Mortal Kombat. I like Mortal Kombat too, but I certainly couldn't say I like the story or the characters with as much enthusiasm as you have shown. The story and characters are complete cheese(not that Scorpion or Sub-Zero aren't certified in the book of bad asses). Gameplay in a game comes first for me. Not that I don't understand where you're coming from. Being the HUGE dragonball z fan I am, I remember when the first Budoakai game came out on the ps2. I bought it because "hey, dbz fighting game! Fuckin' Sweet!" But I hated that game, because it was most likely one of the worst fighting games ever created on this earth. Absolutely terrible. (Hah, I think this is after I bought Deadly Alliance to boot!). But, my point is, my love for Z didn't blind me to the fact the game was shit.

And before you jump the gun, I'm not saying this new MK is shit, Or a DBZ Budokai(Oh lord no). Everything WORKS, and the graphics are richly detailed. But honestly, there's no excuse as to why the foundation of the game is still stuck in 1993. I'd rather have an HD Remastered Kollection than this, because at least with that, I can forgive it for its charming nostalgic reasons.

Stock argument here. For one, if you can't tell what is going on in the screen in SSF4. . .I don't really know what to say. Complaining about that in MvC3 is a token argument to me, but really, SSF4? Ironically, in both games, they exercise a much greater degree of control and versatility than Mortal Kombat by far. So that's the thing, it's not an opinion that SSF4 or MvC3 are better. They are. It's undeniable from an objective point of view. Hell, why do you think Ed Boon would love to do a Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat VS game? Nevertheless, what's important in determining enjoyment stems from what the person actually cares about in the product. And I think I know what that is for you(and a bunch of other folks). Which, nothing wrong with it. Different boats float for different folks. What doesn't suit me(average fight mechanics combined with over-the-top gore) fits the other like OJ's glove.

So in Street Fighter when you're playing it's the moment to moment gameplay that should be the best, whether you win or lose doesn't really matter. Whereas in Mortal Kombat the fighting and playing is just a pathway to get to the result - it's the Fatality you want to see and you almost want to skip the fighting bit and get to the Fatality because that is the result.

I just got done watching the first episode of MK: Legacy and I gotta say it looks promising but I'm just disappointed that they didn't show Scorpion or any other ninja. Hopefully they will for the next episode.

I think his statement would have been true in the beginning, when MK first started out, but I definitely don't see that being the case now.

MK9 is way more integrated than previous games. With the inclusion of X-rays and Super Meters, I think the gameplay has alot going for it. Johnny Cage has an X-ray that needs to be executed at the right time in order to work, so I think it's safe to say MK(2011) has some of those SF elements as well.

I agree one thing I don't like about fighters like Tekken MK as much as SF is thata noob can easily win by smashing. with SF its not as fanatical and analyzing as people say for everyone but the fact that it can be taken to the pro level shows a lot of depth within the game I'm not a studier of frame data and I do win a good deal of matches but when I lose I know the other person knew their skill set well SF is easily enjoyable for the casual gamer as the pro

I still dunno though I mean it took 'til Alpha/Zero 3 and personally I don't think it's changed much since I haven't enjoyed any I've played since as much as it. Then again one part I don't like was the introduction of the game pausing picture before a Super is activated, tedious . . . and once you get into the screen filling triple attacks well I'd had my fill of them by the end Street Fighter Vs X-men (Gambit/Chun-Li btw).

Now Mortal Kombat, well in fairness by UMK3 I was still enjoying it but admittedly it was becoming stale sure 4 went 3D quite well I'd say, Better than Street Fighter at least, but then in trying to find new ground it kinda lost something by the time Deadly Alliance was out. The fun I guess plus it slowed right down, now ironically they've realised they were right with what they had to begin with, but at least it changed, they tried something really different. You play any game with the Street Fighter cast nothing changed IMHO maybe Tekken X Street Fighter will be bring something new . . .

Watched the whole story mode today and all I gotta say is WOW. It was amazingly well done and handled, but sad too.

I was very impressed with how the shockers int he game were handled and felt sorry for all the characters who died.

But be warned, the results are actually surprising

2/3rds of the characters die. Earth realm takes the most casualties(Down to Rayden, Johnny Cage and Sonya), Outworld loses at least half(Mileena, Baraka, Reptile, Ermac, Goro, Kintaro and Sheeva remain ) and the Netherealm, well the Netherealm gains all(Quan Chi and Scoprion make a few new friends and the next villain of the series appears).

I was planning on waiting until tuesday or so...but since I dont have a 360 or a PS3 theres not much point in waiting.
This games story was absolutely amazing.

Kind of sad it wasn't a little longer, but hey there's DLC on the way.
The MK fan in me is pleased.

Tried the game, my impressions:

- You guys talking about how MvC3/SF4 is for technical players? Try this MK. This one has LOTS of improvements in gameplay. Imagine UMK3 with tag team dynamics and EX attacks (SF4)...
- Excellent presentation. Characters are very well detailed, the backgrounds are also damn nice. The music, as always, puts you in the mood to kick some ass.
- Looks like I'll have a blast unlocking stuff and beating the challenge tower. The Krypt is HUGE.

After the major dissapointment that were MK Armaggedon and MK vs DC this seems to go on the right direction for a better fighter. Fans (like me LOL)will be pretty pleased.

Capcom puts more effort on gameplay besides MVC3 focuses on 3vs3 combat, the whole game is based on that mechanic so I don't know what kind of additional content you can put in without ruining that experience.

Just picked this up, along with Tekken 6 and the Sly Cooper Collection. Strange thing happened when I played the demo using Johnny Cage yesterday. . .I actually had some fun. I know I've naysayed the game a bit(and meant to reply to a couple post that missed the point I was trying to make). I haven't changed my mind on the matter--SSFIV and MvC3 are better than MK in the gameplay department. But, I think the people who've played the game publicily didn't really do it much good service, like that machinma stream. Those matches really seemed unimpressive to watch. Nevertheless, the online features, and the couple people I have lined up to play with more than enough justifiy the purchase. I certainly hope there's more characters I'd like to use too.

I got this at Best Buy. Almost bought the collector's edition(they had one left), but, I really don't have any use for the bookends, as my shelf is already full of books, so no place to put them. But kudos, since they did look pretty nice. At least I get "classic" Sub-Zero skin.

He was my favorite of the old games, after all.

Only thing I have to complain about is the 4GB installation. Goddammit. :(

So far I'm loving the story mode and have gotten quite good with Sonya I love her air kick it stops the annoying jumpers along with her air throw her X-ray strings right in with her combos which is awesome. I did play one ranked match that I won I was hit with major lag not sure if its only the person I played or how it is as a whole MKVSDC was a laggy mess
