The game is still fairly new. Believe it or not but not everyone in the entire planet has picked it up yet, and they kinda wanna be surprised.


I'm saying you enjoy the god awfulness of MK:Annihilation, but are complaining about one fight in MKs story mode where a bunch of characters are killed off, it makes little sense.

Why you're nitpicking on me to begin with makes absolutely no sense. Yeah, that one fight scene bugged me a little. I had alot of characters I liked in that scene. I have good reason to not like it that much. What on earth does that have to do with me liking a film back in 1997 as a kid? Nothing. What does Annihilation have to do with MK9? Nothing. If your gonna compare a 15 sec scene to that of a 95 min film then I'm really at a loss of words.

Yeah, random characters have been seen chained in that arena since the game was first shown last year. Li Mei can also be seen chained up too. They used a lot of models from MK Deception. You can see Frost and Kenshi fighting in the Pit stage as well. I just found out today that sometimes in Jade's Desert stage you can see classic Cyrax in the background.

Stuck on Challenge 300.

I can flawless Goro pretty easily, but Kintaro usually gets 2 or 3 hits on me, unluckily when he has a damage boost too. I'll dispatch him but then Mileena will come in and finish me off like the whore she is, and I'll start all over again. Just tried about 15-20 times and gave up...I'll get it eventually.

If you lose repeatedly and retry right from when you lost the AI degrades to the point where they stand there also pick Scorpion and teleport punch the first two when they attack with Mileena beat her like you do regular characters and be patient with Khan wait for a taunt then use the spear n kick him back with a combo and repeat

the noob one is easy, i havent seen smoke on the forest stage yet and even if i get the pit stage and land 2 flawless for reptile, for some reason i cant do the stage fatality (the comand is locked).

I just e'ffing beat the 300 challenges.

The 300th challenge took me three tries...it wasn't that hard.

My problem was Mileena, she moved way too much and of course
some really stupid mistakes against Shao that led me to a quick
death when I couldn't spare the health.

Kintaro was the easiest...never touched me once.

I always found Kintaro one of the easiest foes to face even when I had just gotten the game.

I had more trouble with the 299th challenge, the Three Shao challenge, and the perform
all of sub-zero's specials on Sindel (couldn't get her to touch my ice figure).

Still stuck on 300. Three Shao Kahns and three Goro's didn't even take me this long. Kintaro always chips away at me enough then Mileena spams her fucking double teleport kick and rolly-polly ball attack and usually does me in. I got to Shao Kahn once but had so little health that all he had to do was fart and I died.

Oh really? I guess it's like the original reptile in MK1.
It's just like Classic Smoke then, where he uses the spear and teleports behind
you like he did in MK2 and scorpion in general.

Classic Reptile is the only one I have yet to face.

It only took me one try in beginner, xD

Here's a little tip I read online, just in case you get touched.

They say that if you ever get touched and the requirement is for you not to lose a single round which means you have to perfect the first two rounds.
If you go to character select when you pause the game it will count you as being the loser, but when you go to the character select screen to repeat the match right where you leave Shang Tsung in the 'Finish Him' moment it will not count as your loss.

Here's what you got to do, if you get touched then beat him both rounds anyhow until you get 'Finish Him', pause, go to character select and try again until you manage to do it.

I guess this a pretty neat way to get to them on one ladder playthrough, hehehehe.

I'll try this if it becomes difficult to get to Reptile. :P

I'm so fucking sick of #300. Mileena is so ridiculously overpowered it's not even funny. She constantly breaks through my blocks and gets about a 5 or 6 combo like it's absolutely nothing. I can flawless both Goro and Kintaro but more often than not, Mileena wipes the floor with me with her fucking bullshit attacks that break through blocks like it's nothing. I can't remember the last time I was so frustrated with a game.

So...Kenshi, Skarlett, and Fujin plus klassic cyborg skins. Thats not bad DLC on its own but I seriously hope that they have a new stage fatality or two and some klassic fatalities in the mix for the skins.

I was disappointed that the only klassic skins that came with a klassic fatality were Sub Zero, Reptile, and Scorpion.

Smoke, Jade, and Noob don't have klassic finishers of their own to call really, but Ermac, Kitana and Mileena did.

So I'm hoping that Sektor, Cyrax, and hopefully Cyber smoke have something as in the mix. Would love to see Sektor's klassic compressor fatality in this game.

Thanks, figured someone would have 'em. As for the news of Fuijin I'd have preferred Rain or going into post MK3 Reiko and Tanya maybe Li Mei as we've seen in the background. Also not overly fussed for Klassic cyborgs I'd prefer all the MK1 outfits. Also Jades second fatality is quite similar to one of her older ones.

Sidenote; Got Klassic Scorpion/Mileena/Jade from friend who got two sets of codes (dunno how, didnt ask) which means I'm only missing Ermac (not fussed tbh) and he has spare Mileena/Jade for 360 as he only wanted Scorpion code . . . anyone interested?

I saw it in this chinese buffet restaurant about 4 months ago. It wasn't plugged in or anything so I took the liberty of plugging it in myself so I did and it worked fine. I spent about 2 dollars just paying it testing it out. I then asked the owner if he would be willing to sell it and he said yeah because no one ever plays it (how about you plug it in?) so I asked how much and he said $400. Apparently his brother gave it to him because he got another arcade machine in his brothers restaurant so he gave him the MK1.

I saw an add on Craigslist for a MK3 arcade but he hasn't replied back to me so I'm not sure if he sold it or is holding it or what. I'll try and take some pics of the MK1 cabinet next time I go in there.

God it feels so good to be playing a great MK game again. So I just bought it three days ago and I'm on 135 of the Challenge tower, how many of these challenges are there? Also, what other secret characters are there?

I already have Cyber Sub and Chi, I keep seeing Kenshi in the background and that red ninja girl everyone was talking about, they playable and some point? Lastly, I have like fifteen graves left to finish the whole krypt but I'll ask anyways...any rewards for clearing the krpyt this time?

I wouldn't be nearly upset if there isn't as I was for Deadly Alliance, seeing that it took me two days in this compared to the three months I spent unlocking them in DA. I was kinda sad not to fight against Motaro in the ladder/story mode, seeing that they did a pretty good model of him, or least what I could see when they were bringing him in on the stretcher lol.

Also, FUCK Shao Kahn's shoulder charge and hammer spams, although he's weak against projectiles and only the story mode final fight gave me grief. Still, it reminds me of the good old days :)

There are 300 challenge tower missions. And there only the 2 secrets characters you mentioned, besides the 4 secret klassic characters you can fight, with the proper requierements; more characters with future DLC's.


Yeah, Shao Kanh spams these moves alot, if you jump; but is easy to take advantage of this; just jump him completly to the other side, he will spam these attacks, but they won't hit you, and he will be completly open to counterattack.

I do about 35% damage combos and a 50% damage combo w/ X-Ray
and all of this happen during the first hour of playing with him, his moves

Since the 100% trophy is "back in time" I took it as Raiden will realize he fucked up again when Shinnok/Quan Chi start invading the realms and he'll travel back in time yet again to set things right. Who knows.

Well I just got home from work boot up my PS3 to try the Expert Ladder with my
new-found best character 'Ermac'....much to my surprise I did superb for a first try.

I didn't even lose a match or round, many were close calls....and even many close
calls of me performing lots of flawless victories in quite a lot of the matches but
failed miserably right at the end of the round.

What an impeccable record I set for myself, I don't think I'll be able to top it off. :P

They're both 2D fighting games with 3D graphics. The major differences in fighting mechanics should be compared with one another. MK still uses the stupid cliche of teleporting characters and MvC3 has tighter controls and hit detection.

You saying that you can't compare the two games because of gameplay differences is the same as saying that you can't compare Call of Duty to Bad Company 2; because one promotes camping and the latter promotes an aggressive play style.
Camping is boring, frustrating and makes for an overall bad shooter experience, therefor the game is terrible as a result. Teleporting is the fighting game equivalent of camping. So yes, the gameplay of the two games is comparable, they're in the same genre. What's not comparable is the unique features of each game. I'm not going to dislike Mortal Combat because you play as a single character and not a team of 3. The fighting mechanics are a different story.

CoD is fast-paced and close quarters and BC2 was team-oriented and on a larger scale...both games were fun in their own right. I hate people(fanboys) who have to shit on one series. If you don't like it, that's great.

What fools do in the game is their own decision. Bad Company 2 makes camping an ineffective strategy that gets you absolutely nowhere. You camp in a building, I'll blow away the wall you're hugging and you along with it. These "bushwookies", as you call them, have the lowest K/D ratios on the entire team because they camp. They're not being rewarded with killstreaks or experience for sitting in one place for the duration of the entire match. There will always be people that don't help the team in any game. The difference is, CoD promotes that kind of playstyle and BFBC2 rewards you with the lowest K/D in the match because you choose to camp. Also, you can't shoot down your own team's helicopter as FF is off unless you're playing the terrible Hardcore Mode.

How can you claim that a game with a perk that makes you invisible to radar doesn't promote camping? From what you've stated, it sounds as if you haven't played BFBC2 in almost a year.

I only referenced BFBC2 and CoD in relation to judging games of a similar genre. You're the one who rushed in to defend CoD like it was your own child.

To that end, I believe teleporting characters in fighting games are cheap, it is no more evident than in the final boss battles in almost all fighting games. It is such an unnecessary cliche. I also believe that putting characters in a 10 second cut scene in MK is redundant. I thought I was playing as Liu Kang and not Hideo Kojima. Whereas, I don't mind starring at a close up of a character for 1 second to give me a heads up to try and avoid a special attack in MvC3.

What really sells mortal kombat for me is the polish. The amount of kontent, the story, the character damage, and the sheer ridiculousness of it all just make it a blast to play.

Well you could say MvC3 has more freedom in combo variety but its fluidity lies in combos that can be performed in no specific order which kind of takes away the emphasis of skill and leaves too much to the imagination and room for error.

I love both games to death, don't get me wrong.

The way you say it is not fluid makes me think it means that you can't make any combos in which ever way you want and that button mashing through a combo doesn't work.

I highly disagree with this idealistic train of thought, if this is what you were trying to say when you compare the two games...

What I learned in this MK and many others in the past, like Tekken, you can't get ahead of yourself in combos because they won't register you have to go along with their animation or at least not get too ahead of yourself.

You nailed it. I feel the same way about MK vs MvC3. I expected soooo much more from MvC3... Mortal Kombat did what I wanted with MvC3: A PROPER STORY, shitloads of extra content, unlockables... I won't say MvC3 is not a good fighting game cuz' I would be lying, that game is beast, but for me MK is the superior title in all aspects. But hey, it's a free world, if you want to worship Marvel, then do it. ^_^

I was with you until you copped out by speaking about games that aren't actually being discussed. This is about MK (2011), not any of its predecessors.

Plus he wasn't attempting to branch off into a Virtua Fighter discussion, he just made an off-hand reference that actually held quite a bit of merit. When we're having a discussion about realism, Mortal Kombat (this iteration of it) is about as far away from realism as possible, especially since this game does everything it can to distance itself from the entries before it which showcased actual fighting styles.

Played with Jillstars4ever about an hour ago. He's really good. Watch out for his Sonya though. He's mean with her.

I also just got done playing with a guy who is in the PDP Tournament. OH man he kicked my ass so bad lol. I did win with Mileena though. He told me some tricks and tips and said my best character is Mileena but I still need to work on her. It was a pleasure to play with the guy for sure.

Ok now I've found something that pisses me off more than 3 Shao Khan's at once. Mind you I'm not even within sweep distance and somehow Baraka's super scissors literally teleport me within reach and tear me to shreds. WTF!!! One other thing, while you can clearly tell that you have cleared his head on a jump you also get teleported into the same move...WTFx2!!! I can handle losing just fine but what the hell is up with that.

It seems, from the prompt that you receive when trying to join on a private invite from another region, to be an implementation choice rather than a technical hiccup. It views each region's game as a unique product, similar to the way you can get two different sets of trophies for the same game if it's from a different region.

This explains why Seb and I were having issues earlier. Whenever I sent him an invite, it asked him to quit the game and then insert the disc for MK. Did the same thing for me too, so it looks like the online is region locked afterall. Must be similar to how in the States you have Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and in Europe it's the Ultimate Sega Mega Drive Collection.

Two different products with two seperate trophy lists, so technically not a region lock in the traditional sense but unique regional releases. I don't believe that region locking should exist in this day and age, especially with the internet being as high speed as it is these days. For example, I've played MvC3 with quite a few people from the States and suffered very little lag to none.

It's not so much a MvC3/MK flame war, but a MK versus every other online fighter out there flame war. It's the only one I've known to do this---only Virtua Fighter 5 for the PS3 has no online mode to compare. It's garbage, plain and simple. But, that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes unfortunately. It's pretty bad that even a game like Dragonball Z Burst Limit, released almost 3 years ago, had region free play.

Regarding the matter of online play; I wouldn't trade it in at all, it's a good
fighter and even if I couldn't play online with anyone at all doesn't change
the fact that I can enjoy it offline with friends and family.

I'll just say if you like it for what it is, stick with it even if it means that
you'll only be playing with your region.

We can always play another game when it comes to getting together online
regardless of region boundaries. :)

Just curious as to the characters that most people think are overpowered or cheap...for me, I hate going up against guys like Noob and Smoke. Noob's ranged attacks are seemingly always spammed and it's tough to get in close to him without teleporting. Smoke is less annoying but devastating in the right hands.

No character pisses me off more than Ermac, though, with his fucking overpowered ranged bullshit attacks that are easily launchable into a 6 or 7 hit combo no matter who's using the character. I've seen people call him "Easy Mac" and I can see why. I honestly have no respect for somebody who mains him.

Am I the only one who thinks the game is great without having to blame or

They already said that they'll be bringing an update to fix a few things, so
hopefully it pleases the people that don't share my point of view of how

Being defensive != people who ground block all the time.


People who can run away and spam projectiles quickly are incredibly troublesome for characters who do not have a teleport or a fast projectile, playing online it gets worse because even for characters who do have options a lot of intended punish options simple do not work online with the delay even on almost lagless matches and will result in a block from the opponent/ an impossible whiff and punish on you instead.

Lmao being a Sonya mainer myself I've run into this a lot I usually turtle back at them and Sonyas arching jump kick or whatever you call it is great at closing the space and has good enough recovery time to unleash an uppercut right away.

I don't think any of the characters are cheap, but the users themselves are the ones
that make them seem so.

As you can see from the PDP tournament finals in Las Vegas, where you can see Justin
Wong a well known video game player in the fighting genre.

Never do they do a teleport move because as we all should know at this kind of high
level matches it can cause you the entire match.

When you face people that you can't get a hit on them because of their constant
blocking just use moves that can break through guard, high-drop attacks that are
effective against crouching blocking opponents, or simply grab them...and yes it works
even on crouching opponents.

If you truly know how to play the game like these gentlemen then you shouldn't have
any issues on rinse and repeat novices.

This video is exactly what I mean...that's why you see Justin Wong winning nearly all
fighting game tournaments you see him in.

As for me, I've been lucky on finding people who either I challenge or challenge me
just use a great variety of characters to my surprise...I guess it has to do because
I'm looking at a different audience playing the US servers and all.

I would recommend looking at other rooms that are not overly crowded.

You cannot grab a croucher unless they block, but even if you try they can just counter and nullify it. This is all irrelevent against characters who are zoning vs someone without options to counter it anyway though since if they do it even half right you'll never be in grab range, like the Sonya example I posted.
