I did mention that I don't play these things partially for that reason (and the characters I like to play are always in the 'Just No' Tier).

Have you tried Blazblue or SSFIV?

Nope. Are they somewhat more balanced?

BB is a really refreshing game, very balanced.

In fact, the second title, Continuum Shift, has an update called Continuum Shift II that completely rebalances the game because people were complaining online about certain characters. For free. That's how much they care. :D

It was one example, I'm not gonna to write up every single match-up in the game. I already said it was one single example but like previous posts it seems to be ignored, your tactic suggested was already covered in the example.

Exactly, it was one example and you claim the whole game to be horribly unbalanced. Each character has a different ability....of course some will have advantages over others. It doesn't mean some characters are more powerful than others, nor does it make the game unbalanced. That's how the series has always been. The game even has a 2 on 2 versus to mix up the matches.

I really don't know what to say anymore. To me, it just seems that you don't like the series as a whole, which is fine. I hardly see any complaints about MK(2011) anywhere. For being such a "unbalanced game" it sure had a huge crowd at EVO. If that much people enjoy the game......I mean, it really must not be as unbalanced as you claim it to be, otherwise it wouldn't have such a big fanbase. If you don't like the game than just don't play it, you don't have to keep bragging about how bad it is.

Canas Renvall

^ Now that's not the best example. Everyone loves MvC2 and that's considered the most unbalanced fighter ever made... :P

I wouldn't know about that, since I never really played that game a lot, but KylieDog is just making it seem like MK is a completely unfair fighting game, which it's not. I've seen some players online who use characters that can't teleport like Liu Kang and Johnny Cage and they have pretty amazing skill.

If you don't have any tactic you shouldn't be expecting to win lots of matches online, especially against spammers.

Finally downloaded every DLC character and I must say, Kenshi and Freddy are my favorites. Kenshi has a ton of options in terms of specials for mixing it up against your opponents, and I've yet to try out some combos with him. Freddy is damn user friendly, his combos are accessible. I haven't even tried out Rain and I like what I see from him, and Skarlet I've played as before, I like her.

So I bought the MK:AK last night and I've been playing the hell out of it. So I figured I'll do a little review for it

MK1. Its fun but the AI is not that great (obviously). A bit on the slow side as well, especially compared to MK2 and UMK3. Still fun though.

MK2. I like MK2 but I'm still burnt out on it considering that I played the hell out of it a month prior to MK9 being released. Its exactly the same as the MK2 release on PSN a few years ago minus the loud fucking main menu.

UMK3. My favorite of the bunch. You have to unlock Classic Sub-Zero, Mileena and Ermac (Rain and Noob are absent on this version) by entering the Kombat Kodes when you lose the match or when you beat the ladder. Some of the combos do seem a bit laggy-er than usual. I used to be able to do a 50% combo with Smoke in MK3 ending with a combo thats square, square, circle, triangle, X and for some reason it stops when I press circle. Though the 3 button combos work. Some of the sounds are different and Scorpions "get over here" is cut to "get" because of an error.

The ladders on MK2 and UMK3 are very very hard (fuck you jade in UMK3!) due to the fact that these are ARCADE ports, which means they are meant to kick your ass and take quarters.

The online is fucking horrible. Laggy as all hell. I've played a few matches and they were all really really laggy. No disconnects though (yet).

There are difficulty changes (easy - Very Hard) and filter changes (Klassic, Painted 1, Painted 2, Smooth and Arcade. I don't see a difference in Painted 1 and 2). and there is a display setting as well.

The Arcade setting is my favorite. The game looks like an actual screen from a arcade, the screen has this round look to it and it has these really small black lines going through it (you can turn this off obviously).

Notice the roundish look to it and the small black lines. Pretty cool feature imo.

To me, its worth the $10. Hopefully they'll patch the online because I'd love to play a fluid online match in UMK3.

Ah the black lines of the arcade, sweet sweet memories. I remember putting so much time into MK2 back in the day...and hating MK3 so much. I really hated the bland look MK3 had, as well as the boring color palate for the backgrounds and characters.

MK2's backgrounds and characters had a much more lush look to them but not in MK3...and then there's MK3/UMK3's fatalities...ouch. I applaud them for trying something different and the lighter tone they had...but no.

Loving the Kollection. MK1 was a bitch on easy to beat, endurance rounds and cheap-ass fireball spewing Shang Tsung. But that's oldschool, and I love it!

I think there is a way to use Noob Saibot with a combination of buttons, just as how you can use Human Smoke when holding (High Kick+High Punch+Block+Run+Left) with smoke at the beginning of the match.

I'll look into it...

The only way you can play as Rain and Noob Saibot in UMK3 is to buy the crappy 16-bit versions. Otherwise, you can only fight against Noob in the arcade version, and Rain basically just doesn't exist. They were just teasers to make you think that there was something more to the game.

Mortal Kombat II is TOO. DAMN. HARD. Fucking cheap AI. You fight on close quarters, auto-grab and you're done. Go long range and it spams projectiles. Those things were money grabbing machines let me tell you!

When blocking hold back and they can't throw you.

If you REALLY want to beat it but be cheap at the same time, play as Baraka and spam the fuck out of his Chop Chop blades. They do as much damage as a uppercut.

Didn't know that. I don't care at this point. It's no longer being fun, I MUST WIN!

EDIT: Thanks man, as usual, you're the MK Sensei.
EDIT 2: Fucking owned Shang Tsung, but with Liu Kang; just spaming Bycycle Kick while moving backwards ALL the time. Almost got a double flawless!
EDIT 3: Shao Kahn can easily be defeated by spamming Mileena's teleport kick, too.

I got the double flawless in UMK3 with the first match against Reptile. I main Classic Sub-Zero in that game now and did the square, square, down+X, Down+Square combo and ended it with a slide over and over again.

I got the 100% on this last night when I just boosted the fuck out of playing 103 matches by myself. Theres no way in hell I was gonna play that many shitty online matches.

OK lemme tell you how to get some extra hits on the AI when they start to be a bitch in MK2 and UMK3:

If you keep jumping backwards, the AI will jump forward and try to catch up with you. when you run out of room to jump backwards, jump backwards that one extra time.

The AI will automatically jump to you and be wide open for some damage. This pattern may take a while to learn and will make the AI less of a threat once you have it down, especially with characters who have air throws like Jax and Scorpion. Also take advantage or Raiden, Mileena, Kitana, Liu kang and Kung Lao's special moves you can do in the air.

When you have to face AI Shang Tsung especially who is always nasty to fight, use this trick.

This trick doesn't work against Khan or Kintaro.

UMK3 on the other hand has dumber AI and is easier to exploit.

All you have to do is uppercut any regular character and immediately after you land an uppercut on them. Jump straight in the air.

Don't try to attack or anything just jump straight in the air.
By the time you land from your jump, the AI will have recovered and try to hit you with a jump kick and will miss.

They're wide open for an uppercut so give it to them.

Just repeat this pattern until they're dead. I believe this pattern also works for leg sweeps, and roundhouses.

This pattern also works on Shao Khan, however you have a 50/50 chance that once you land an uppercut on him he's going to do a straight charge, instead of an air charge.

You want him to do an air charge really, that way the pattern makes him a push over.

But as Khan and Motaro are pussies in MK3/UMK3 you should be fine on your own.

I learned these tricks way back when in the arcades and I know they'll still work. Dont be afraid to cheat against the AI ;).

I played against nemesiswontdie the other night on some UMK3 and the lag was pretty bad, it was playable but certainly not ideal. It's strange since I was playing against Kaneco on SFIII Online Edition with no lag whatsoever, so it's not a distance issue but rather an issue with the netcode itself.

Really hope they fix that as I'd like to have more games in the future. Damn ninjas and their teleports.

I can now safely say that this is the most fun I've ever had with a fighting game, even more so than with Tekken 2 and Bloody Roar back on the PS1. I've been playing this game consistently since launch, whereas I played MvC3 for about 2 weeks before it got boring. With this game, however, I actually have fun sitting in practice and trying out different combos with different characters. I now have 5 characters that I'm confident enough with to use them online. I hope to see more DLC in the future.

I thought Kitana and Mileena's bit was interesting...but it was a little too long and having Mileena being a tragic character instead of an unapologetic psychotic bitch just felt off.

I think they've done more for the franchise than the first movie ever did though.

The tone of everything feels right, even if some of the characters dont.*cough* Sub zero and scorpion super twins from first MK movie*cough*

I had a problem when they started using cartoons. That I didn't like.
I loved the gritty feel of the first episodes. Man, Raiden's episode was GREAT. Johnny Cage's was also fantastic. They were different from the game, but had that MK feel done right.

For the most part I think the first MK film did a good job translating the first game into a movie. Especially when compared to other video game adaptations such as "Super Mario Bros." and "Street Fighter".

That's primarily due to Boon and Tobias being part of the writing team I think, that and MK was very much based off of Bloosport and Enter the dragon. If you follow those films formula is hard to mess up I think :P.

Yeah the Mileena and Kitana toons were a bit much, however I think they opted for those due to budget restrictions.

Freddy didn't really ruin MK. He's not in the story line, yeah he's got his own ending in ladder mode but thats it. Its not canon or anything. He attributes as much as Kratos does. Which is nothing except an extra character.

Welp, glad this thread was resurrected. As something of an echo to CR29's previous post, the staying power of this game is quite strong with me, as I'm still playing online tag matches with my best friend to this day. As an ironic echo to the poster formerly known as KylieDog, one of my foremost characters is Sonya Blade. My others are Kabal, Ermac, Shang Tsung and yes, Freddy. While I'm not near as good as my friend, with his 40-50% Kitana and Sektor combos, I like being able to get into characters and learn their defenses and what to exploit. If it weren't for the netcode problems and lack of a solid user base, King of Fighters XIII would probably be the game I play most online, but as it stands, this one is.

With the renewal of MK: Legacy, I wonder what the status of the planned live action reboot is. Good to see Tagawa back- the dude gave Tsung a portrayal above and beyond the source of the games.
