Just a reminder that my sub-THIA site is still in action, and work is progressing steadliy.

At the moment, only the PSF and Backgrounds sections are complete, aswell as the anticipated Utilites section (<- I've had a high demand for this section).

Soon to come:
A VERY extensive collection of guides for hacking BH/RE files
A complete GameShark/Action Replay section including my own codes
Promotional/Beta video
A few surprises which will be revealed in due time ;)

The main objective of _The Coroner is to please you, the fan. It may not be much right now, but as stated before work is picking up. You are more than welcome to ask or request features/material for _The Coroner. I'm open to comments/suggestions!

Thats great news Mark, look forward to seeing the new sections.

Btw, any tips on hacking the videos from the Saturn version of Resident Evil would be appreciated :)
As far as i can gather they are all contained together in 1 big file entitled MOVIE.CPK which is 228Mb in size, but when i try to extract/convert them with acpk2avi it only extracts the first video, the animated Capcom logo :(
Same when i try to play it with CPK Player, it only plays the first video.

Thanks for the feedback, Cyber.:)

Concerning the Saturn CPK video, you have to Hex them out. I know, it really sucks to have to manually extract every CPK video with a Hex editor, but it's the only way.

All you need is Hex Workshop, and a slight knowledge of hex.

To help aid you, every CPK video contains this Header:

OFFSET HEX ASCII
---------------------------------------------
0x00 4649 4C4D FILM
0x10 4644 5343 FDSC
0x30 5354 4142 STAB

I plan to write a full guide with every offset of the videos archived into MOVIE.CPK, in the mean time, i'm sorry that this is all the information that I can provide.

Nice set of utilities. Comparable to Zophar Domain

That's one hell of a compliment! Zophar's Domain is legend. My archive hasn't exactly reached Zophar's, but there are plenty more utilities to come!

On a side note, I finally reripped the "BioHazard 2: Dual Shock Version" PSF set which you can download here if you are interested in PSone music. I had ripped this set before, but accidentally deleted it like a goof. >_<
http://markgrass.the-horror.com/Media/PSF/BioHazard_2_Dual_PSF.rar

or here at Lawrence Lin's PSF mirror with my other sets such as "BioHazard Director's Cut: Dual Shock Version", "BioHazard Director's Cut", "BioHazard 2 Trial Edition", "RockMan NEO Trial Edition", "MegaMan Legends", etc.

Keep the feedback coming! More fuel for the fire...

Mark, something odd about the psf rips. Last time I downloaded them they seemed to play a tiny bit slower than on the psone/ps2. Just curious if you noticed this?

MarkGrass
12-18-2006, 12:39 PM
It's possible that the Generic Driver I use to rip these sets are PAL-based.

There's a function that the PSone uses in sequenced music that the developers call "TICK" mode. IIRC, This function comes in 5 modes, and they are:

TICK_VSYNC
TICK_50
TICK_60
TICK_120
TICK_240

I suspect that the Generic Driver uses TICK_50 mode, though I couldn't say for sure.

Ah, you think theres anyway to fix that perhaps mark?

Also, I recently picked up Outbreak File 1 Greatest Hits and can confirm theres numerous file differences from the original release. If you'd like I can provide you with the files that are different so you can look into it further. I did see that one file in particular contained speech that the characters say.

There were rumors of a fixed version being released as Alyssa's speech crashed Scenario 1 if you used Ad Lib on it (and sometimes it did even if you didnt!).

Ah, you think theres anyway to fix that perhaps mark?

I'll have to mess around with DRIVER.PSFLIB in PSF Lab, though i'll be honest and say that i'll have to read up on it a little more.

There were rumors of a fixed version being released as Alyssa's speech crashed Scenario 1 if you used Ad Lib on it (and sometimes it did even if you didnt!).

I can confirm that 101%. I bought Outbreak the day it came out, and....
NOT ONE SINGLE TIME HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO PLAY AS ALYSSA!
Every single time I try to play as her, or have her in my "party", the game crashes within minutes, it NEVER fails. For the record, there isn't even a spec of dust on the disc.

But yeah, i'd love to check out the files on the rerelease of Outbreak, though aren't the AFS archives around a gig in size?

Dot50Cal

I can extract the files which are different, Ill get a list and archive em up tommorow. Seems odd though, it looks like they changed a whole host of things other than the Alyssa stuff as well.

Like the minor bugfixes (guess they did that, like the Alyssa adlib showstopper in scenario 1) and like the redesigned save system in the PAL version (to compensate for the lacking of online play)

Cyber_Shinobi
12-20-2006, 04:04 PM
Good point Carnivol, the changes could just be the bug fixes.

Guess the only way we'll find out is if Cal plays it, can you stand the torture? :D

Oh and thanks Mark, i worked it out fine and have been extracting the videos individually using an Hex editor. :)

I had serisouly thought that there were no more beta items in the original PSone version of BioHazard, but I was wrong. I was working on TMD models lately so fans can "skin" their own character for BioHazard when I came across something weird. Nothing fantastic or mind-blowing, just something never mentioned/shown before.

The ITEM_M2 folder contains alot of TMD models with their corresponding TIM texture. All the IVM files in this folder are used for 3D models in the Status Menu, however, the file "I35V.IVM" is definitely not used. I have never seen this model, nor have I heard it mentioned anywhere, so here it is.

http://markgrass.the-horror.com/Beta_Keys_02.jpg

Now the obvious, I wonder what/where these keys were used?

Not a problem....I wish I could have posted this earlier, but better late than never, eh? The US/PAL version of Resident Evil will be documented later.

I'm not sure exactly where the keys are used off the top of my head, but if you listen to beta/removed voice files off of RE1 PC version (not sure if they are in PS, ect, versions), you can hear the recordings of Rebecca and Chris and/or Barry and Jill (can't remember which or if it's both) talk about turning keys at the same time to open a door. These keys are probably the keys they are using. Don't have my PC version handy atm or I'd upload the voice clips. If nobody else does it first, I'll get them up within the next couple of days or so.

Thanks Mark.

I managed to extract and convert them all to AVI files fine, and pretty quickly, by just using the Find Next and Mark/Extend To Mark functions.

I wanted to check whether there was any hidden movies in the PAL version i have(with the rumour of some early PAL editions containing the uncut videos) but theres not, not on my copy of the game anyway...

Btw, out of interest, can anyone tell me the file size of the MOVIE.CPK on the US and Japanese versions?

UPDATE:

1 - Javascript "Toll Booth" has been removed. This was only implemented to make sure I wasn't wasting my own time by continuing progress on "The Coroner".

2 - ADX archive section is complete! The following ADX soundtracks are now available:
BioHazard 3 Nemesis
BioHazard 4
BioHazard Code: Veronica
BioHazard Code: Veronica Trial Edition
BioHazard Outbreak
BioHazard Outbreak File #2
BioHazard Gun Survivor 2 - Code: Veronica

3 - PSF (Playstation Sound Format) section is complete:
BioHazard 2 Beta
BioHazard 2 Dual Shock Version
BioHazard 2 Trial Edition

4 - Miscellaneous Utilities have been added. Head over to the appropriate section to see what's new.

Can anyone tell me the file size of the MOVIE.CPK on the US and Japanese versions?

USA - 238 MB (250,490,880 bytes)
JAP - 245 MB (257,513,472 bytes)

Mark, something odd about the PSF rips. Last time I downloaded them they seemed to play a tiny bit slower than on the psone/ps2.

Good news-this will be fixed very soon. Although it will require me to rerip every BH/RE PSF archive, it will well be worth it.

I coded yet another Generic PSF driver that will be released shortly to those in the PSF Rippers scene over at Yahoo. As mentioned before, my old Driver used either SS_TICKVSYNC or SS_TICK50 (PAL). My new Driver uses the High Quality SS_TICK240 function that not only corrects the playback timing, but highly increases the sound quality of the PSF rips.

Expect new/correct rips soon!

The leaked English version of BioHazard 4 for the PC has already been hacked...-.-

No teaser pics yet, but they will soon to follow.

It appears that the PC version of BH4 is a port of BOTH the GCN and PS2 versions', however there are "PC exclusive" formats used aswell.

Any and everything can be modded with the PC version:
Models can be imported into 3D modeling software.
Almost all textures are in Targa (.TGA) format, the rest are in the PS2 .TPL format.
ALL music/sound is in OGG Vorbis format.
Maps (stages) are 'ripped' directly from the GCN version (ie, they're from the GCN version).
Textures for the maps, items, and models are in TGA format.
Text is in [RAW] ARBG format, which is easily editible.

I could go on and on, but to make a long story short, the PC port of BH4 is easier than fuck to hack/mod. :)

Dot50Cal

Maps (stages) are 'ripped' directly from the GCN version (ie, they're from the GCN version).

Not so sure about that, look at the tree geometry here, its straight outta ps2.

MarkGrass
02-05-2007, 01:30 PM
I stand corrected, however, after doing another check of the stages through HEX compare, they're mixed (?). In other words, they use parts of both the GCN and PS2 versions. This game is nothing more than a port of both the GCN and PS2 versions ingeniously combined into one...

Dot50Cal
02-05-2007, 02:18 PM
Haha, well the audio is definitely higher quality than ps2, and Id say the textures are GCN on most surfaces :)

I've found out how to obtain "real-time" cutscenes in the leaked version of BH4 PC - simply delete the MOVIE folder.

The only downfall to this is:

1) There is no sound/bgm.
2) There are no models.

...a useless feature that only shows the camera action in real time, but it goes to prove that with the right hacking method, BH4 PC can have real-time cutscenes (which look fantastic) with models and sound/bgm, as opposed to prerendered MPG movies (which look horrible IMHO).

For anyone that is interested, model swapping does work, though with [somewhat comical] side-effects:

http://markgrass.the-horror.com/GCA.rar

Install BioHazard 4 normally. After installation is complete, change all the DAT extensions in the insatllation folder to GCA.

Using GCArchiver, open and extract each GCompressed Archive. Each file will output corresponding folders with data necessary to run BioHazard 4.

After every DAT archive's extension has been changed to GCA, and extraction with GCArchiver is complete, delete all of the GCA files, they will no longer of use (the game can use the folders as if they were the original DAT files).

Within the extracted folders is code, OGG Vorbis audio, TGA textures, etc. needed for gameplay. You are now ready to mod BH4 PC.

TGA Textures:

The TGA files in RE4 PC can be redimensioned with size restrictions: only 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 1024 pixels.... width and height

for example, an image of 32x64 can be redimensioned to a 256x128 image without any kind of distorsions ingame

And there are lot of 32-bit tga which includes an alpha channel for transparencies

Vorbis Audio:
Nominal bitrate : 160 kbps
Channels : 2
Sampling rate: 48000 Hz
Serial number: 2254
Version : 0
Vendor :
Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20050304

3DS Models:
Install <a href="http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/3DRipperDX.htm">3DRipperDX</a>. Launch BioHazard 4 with 3DRipperDX, and press F12 to capture a single frame. This will output a 3DR-extension 3D frame that can be imported with 3DS Max. With the 3DR open in 3DS Max, you can extract models, view the map, etc.

Hello, Leelo. Thanks for the feedback, and i'm glad that you enjoy "The Coroner".:)

Concering the ZERO and Remake backgrounds - I will have to discuss uploading them to the server with the webmaster of this fine site (all together the archives weigh over a Gig).

If allowed, I will upload them and post a link ASAP. If not, i'm afraid you'll have to extract them yourself as Megaupload, etc. never works for me.

What you will need:
Legit GCM (ISO) copies of the games on your hard drive.
A hex editor, and tons of patience.
Details for extraction here:

In fear of the archives [inevitably] getting deleted from MegaUpload, all BH GCN backgrounds will have a permenant home at "The Coroner". However, there is going to be slight restriction on downloads of these archives - If the "hits" of these archives exceed my allowed bandwidth for "The Coroner", downloading of them will be unavailible until further notice.

I would highly appreciate it, SureShot, thanks. Most particularly, the backgrounds need mirrors. The complete collection of GCN backgrounds have been uploaded with the exclusion of BioHazard Rebirth Trial Edition simply because the backgrounds haven't been ripped from it, yet.

Although I know how to extract and convert them properly, I simply do not have the patience to spend countless hours extracting them. To rip an convert a single GCN Bio title can take up to days, and in some cases weeks. This is albert's expertise, but since I am no longer a member of BioFlames I don't have contact with him. If someone would like to contact him for this particular assignment, it would be appreciated aswell.

And just so this is out in the open, Dot50Cal I do not want to be banned. Bioflames is pissing me off lately and I think this is a perfect choice to preview my work. I know the rules. You have absolutly no worries...

:uhh: Moving on..

I know this is a little out of hand, but since i'm not a member of BioFlames I feel I must respond to something here.

So will it be possible to hack File 2 to make it online...again? Like what people did to PSO. MarkGrass, we need your help! I miss my WT and UB.

Very possible, however most key points have already been mentioned.

Like Dot50Cal said, without the server's files and information, it would be a tremendously hard task to emulate the process. Given Project Omega's response and with the right (and expensive) debugging equipment, one could reverse engineer all in/outgoing traffic which is, again, a tremendously difficult task.

VirusPunk pretty much put the nail in the coffin; hacking CAPCOM's game servers would be pretty stupid on someone's behalf, however, there is such a thing called "stealth". Even then, he is still correct; One would need to know extensive SSH commands.

On top of all that, I doubt one measily server would be enough for the World's population. Not only would it take a mass amount of servers once "word was out", but it would take a team of people to maintain. We're talking money here, unfortunately noone will work for free. Plus not to mention that everyone who wanted to play online would have to download a pirated copy because the game is encoded with server address' (exampled below):

http://regweb.reo.capcom.sf.yav4.com/reweb/index.jsp

With that said, you'd have to:

1 - Extensively hack OutBreak File #2's ELE Executable
2 - Have servers on hand
3 - Know/Learn SSH server commands
4 - Have tremendous reverse engineering skill concerncing PS2's BroadBand In/Output
5 - Have a team of people willing to work daily to keep the servers updated
6 - Have expensive toys to document the process

and overall, a shitload of patience. Reverse engineering the process wouldn't happen overnight, but I never said it couldn't be done. It honestly far succeeds my talent and wallet capacity, but i'm sure there's someone out there...

Is there no way to set up what DNS server is being used in game? Set it so it redirects to the old IP to the new server, and bingo. Thats what they did for PSO I believe, and it didnt require anything special. Then again, I havent played Outbreak in a long while so I dont remember the options

Just patch it all through a computer and you've got software to do that

Project Omega

Or just create software to make the gameshark/action replay code to change the hardwired (sort to speak) address to something else...

MarkGrass
04-21-2007, 03:32 AM
Eh....when it comes to that kind of hacking, i'm totally illiterate.:(

In lighter news, despite the fact that I had recently lost the Source Code for my Generic PSone Sequence Drivers (http://markgrass.the-horror.com/PSF1/PSF.TXT) due to a WIN98 failure/crash, I have completely rewritten them which means new PSF rips of all PSone Bio/RE titles are coming very soon! And I must say, the quality of the songs are excellent, and have been vastly improved since I decided rewrote the program. The Source will be available soon, to those who even care...

Sample:
http://markgrass.the-horror.com/PSF1/SEP_Multi.PSF
*You may use PSF-o-Cycle to set the Volume, Reverb Type/Depth, etc. (See PSF.TXT)

You MUST have WinAmp, Foobar2000, or SexyPSF to listen to PSF songs! A plugin called "Highly Experimental" for WinAmp is preferred for playback on WIN 98/XP/Vista machines.

If someone would like to contact him for this particular assignment, it would be appreciated aswell.

hi!!!! ... -.- it's been a long time

TGA Textures:
Must contain the same diemenion as the unmodded TGA, and it must be 24-bit.

I'm preparing a pack with improved textures. There are a lot of duplicated textures in low and high quality and i'm replacing the crapy textures with the well-looking textures and creating some new texture which doesn't have a "high resolution version".

As soon as I finish this project I'll post it in this forum.

Ciaren just pointed this out to me. What a great topic, I support this project 100&#37;. My how this website's community grows by word of mouth, eh?

Now if I understand these RE0 background images I downloaded correctly, each jpeg is one frame in an animated background image. Assuming this is correct, I should beable to create some very small mp4 files so you don't have to host GB's worth of images.

Also, albert, so far that texture mod looks fantastic. Now I am not completely knowledgable on the subject, but doesn't the in game cutscenes (in the GameCube version) use higher poly models ane d resolution textures? Those could make looking at Leon's back just a little bit more pretty :P.

Krispy
05-02-2007, 03:08 AM
Well I went ahead and did some test conversions of the frames into something animated. I made them into flash just because of how easy flash is to integrate into a website, but I can easily make it anything else. You can find a quick page with a few of them put up here (http://residentevilmedia.com/Resident&#37;20Evil%200/RE0%20FMA%20Backgrounds.html) (WARNING: I put all the loops on one webpage so if you don't have broadband, don't click or prepare to load for a long time).

A few things to note: there are a bunch of different resolutions to these image, I assume it is Capcom who caused this which is odd. You would think they would have standardized the resolution and aspect ratio of the backgrounds. There are also some frames missing from some loops, you can see it in the shaking roof loop on the webpage. The frame may be hiding somewhere in the 10000+ jpegs, I haven't looked yet ;).

Albert, are you capable of ripping the cutscenes as well? I noticed the blood animation was the same dimensions as the cutscenes, or are they different encryption?

Dot50Cal
05-02-2007, 05:31 AM
Cutscenes are in H4M, at least the ones that arent done in engine. H4M cannot be decoded yet, and likely wont be due to its proprieteryness XD

I've gotten the majority of the characters from RE4 into max format (after a few hours of fixing the bloody models). As well as DMC3 stuff. I'd give the GC iterations of RER and RE0 a try but finding a working link to iso's of that nature is like looking for gold dust :( (and I do have them legitimately ... just cant be arsed to do it manually :3 )

Also, I'm still uploading the stuff, just havent had a chance to do so lately. Uni work/slow internet and the such =/

http://z6.invisionfree.com/Resident_Evil_4_PC/index.php?showtopic=170

FEATURES:
Export PMD models found in the PC version of Bio4 to .OBJ and .MTL files for editing in 3DS Max, MilkShape, etc.

Import modified .OBJ and .MTL for conversion to PMD, which can then be used in the game.

Oddly enough, instead of chraging me 39 pounds, they charged me 39 USD. No complaints here. The software that was bundled with the kit is far more advanced than anything you'd find in an emulator; I had to revise my hacking methods because of that fact, but overall, the Trainer Kit was well worth it.

However, sadly, there isn't much that can be done for BioDS. Action Replays for the DS comes preloaded with cheats to play through the game as Wesker, Barry, etc., Item Mods, etc (It was pretty damn awesome playing through the game as Wesker!). I'll just have to give my imagination a stir...

hi everyone. As i said a few months ago, I've finished the "ultimate texture patch" for RE4 PC. Now the PC version has better textures than gamecube version!

Notes/Description:

RESIDENT EVIL 4 / BIOHAZARD 4 TEXTURE PATCH 1.0 (PC VERSION)

This texture patch is for patched or unpatched versions of the game and can be installed in european american or asian versions of the game.

It contains upgraded textures for all the stages of the game included "separate ways" ("the another order"), "assignment ada" ("ada the spy") and "the mercenaries" minigames

Now the Pc version of this game has Nintendo GameCube textures or better. I've ripped all the textures from the GC version but there still was some low-res textures. So, I created new textures, too.

The screenshots are a small example of what you find when this patch is installed.

Of course there still are some bad-looking textures, but this is mostly for a bad mapping. Fortunatelly, it happens very few times.

--------------------------------------------------

INSTALATION INSTRUCTIONS:

1- Make sure you have extracted the compressed files from the xfile.dat and xcrs.dat files in your Resident Evil 4 game directory with the GCA extractor tool ("gca_e.exe"). (download here: http://www.emit.jp/gca/gca_eng.html)

Details:

Change the "dat" extensions for both files to "gca".

Execute the gca_e.exe utility.

Go to File-->Extract file.

Select xfile.gca and press OK (the default options are right)

Now you should have in Resident Evil 4 folder (or biohazard 4) a new xfile folder. The same process with the xscr.gca file

There's no need to delete the original files when you finish this. Just keep them renamed as GCA files.

(details and download here too: http://z6.invisionfree.com/Resident_Evil_4...hp?showtopic=4) (http://z6.invisionfree.com/Resident_Evil_4_PC/index.php?showtopic=4))

Now you should have in your Resident Evil 4 directory (or biohazard 4) xfile folder and xscr folder.

There's no need to delete the original files when you finish this. Just keep them renamed as GCA files.

2- Extract the content of the patch in your resident evil 4 folder overwriting the existent xfile and xscr folders. (You must download every part of the patch first, of course.)

3- This will overwritte absolutely all the ingame textures (all tga files). So, you must create a backup of the files you want to keep in case you have installed texture mods like characters skins or something like this. If not, simply install the patch

4- Enjoy ^_^

Quite the improvement! Did you make all the replacements from scratch?

each texture has a story behind... some textures are from gamecube, and the textures that were blurry even in the gamecube version have been created from internet textures (google image search mostly) but some low textures had a high res version in another room folder with some differences (different color, combination of several textures, etc...)

For example, that blurry wooden old gate in the mercenaries stage is an edited version of the door from where the gigante makes his debut. The gamecube version was as blurry as the PC version, so, i took the hi-res gate from the gigante's room and i edited it to make it look like the low-res gate from the mercenaries stage

It was an oddysey to get the textures from gamecube isos. I played almost the whole disc 1 at 1-3 fps with dolphin in order to rip the textures. In some cases the emulator crashed. So I had no choice but to learn how to dump memory card savegames from gamecube to PC...
Life seemed beautiful when i succeeded in this but then i discovered that disc 2 is not playable with dolphin. Fortunatelly the USA version of the game has the mercenaries and the ada the spy minigames in disc 1, too. And i discovered that replacing room files from disc 2 to disc 1 is possible with the GC-Tool. but only if the replaced file is bigger than the new file. Fortunatelly again, the first stage of the mercenaries is the biggest room file in the whole game. So, i replace every room file from disc 2 with that mercenaries stage and i was able to rip every texture from the game.

Easy, ain't it? -.-

some beta room textures were in the game, too. I'll post them here, as soon as possible

albert, have you got an indepth documentation on the patch somewhere? As to what textures were actually replaced with GameCube ones and which were completely redone?

No... Sincerelly, I've been working with the textures so many time that it's impossible for me to be sure of what textures have been imported from gamecube, improved with photoshop or created from internet textures.

albert
07-10-2007, 12:54 PM
because they where low-res and looked blurry in the PC version. Of course i took the gamecube textures. In fact, i don't know how to rip PS2 textures (&#191;?) but some textures where low-res even in the gamecube. these are the textures i remade with photoshop using textures from the game and textures from internet. Examples:

original texture from gamecube and PC versions (in this case, both versions have the same low and crappy resolution):

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/4076/tumini362su9.jpg

"patch texture" from another stage:

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9885/r310kontena01rj6.jpg

using the "patch texture" and some other textures from internet:

http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/4885/tumini363sy3.jpg

tadaa!! new hi-res texture for the PC version

(this is the texture for some containers that appears in the battle against "U-3")

or simply i created new textures from scratch when there were no useful hi-res textures helping me to create a new texture. That's why i said each texture has a story behind...

I just can imagine how painful that was. I did something like that for some manual audio extractions and other file formats, so cheers, man!
I also tried to use Dolphin to dump textures off some GC games, but with no luck.
Can you post your efforts on converting game saves? That would be cool addition. Thanks for your nice hard work, real community support!

nothing major with the beta textures. the only thing interesting is a kind of beta saddler and a member of the capcom staff (i guess) that is with the textures of the room where leon attacks ada. and some unused textures.

----------------------------

You have to play RE4 with dolphin and save the game in the first typewriter. Now you have created a memorycard file with a re4 system file and a re4savegame. Then, the only thing i did to convert the memory card savegames dumped from GC is replacing the savegame of the dolphin memorycard with the dumped savegame from gamecube (copy and paste) using an hexeditor

i'm talking about using dumped savegames from gamecube in dolphin, not in PC version of the game.

As soon as you have created the memorycard playing and saving the game with dolphin, open the memcard_a.raw in a hexeditor and search "resident". The first one is the system file, the second is the savegame (C000 byte).

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/8592/sinttulo1hp7.png

Now select C000 to 1BFFF (If you have more than 1 re4 savegame in the memorycard you'll see where to stop because you'll find the next re4 savegame)

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/347/sinttulo3hd7.png

delete the bytes selected

Open the dumped savegame file and select from "resident" till the end of the file.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1706/sinttulo2gw8.png

Copy it and paste it in C000 position of the mecard_a.raw.

Make sure you don't change the file number ("File 01" ... "File xx").

I have made a very simple MOD for RE4 PC that will allow you to play as Ashley Graham, without graphical errors. You MUST Backup/Delete everything in the folder xfile\em\pl00 before using this MOD.

The only glitch is during the Hunnigan cutscenes (it shows Ashley, but Leon's face model aswel). Other than that, Ashley has all of Leon's moves, etc, and can do anything that Leon does normally throughout the game. I'd like to also add that I have not played through the entire game with this MOD.

hi mark, this is shanemurphy from the re 4 modding board, remember i sent ya a pm about the remake textures, I feel like i might be rude or selfish asking this but......you couldent possibly upload chris, jill, and other characters textures from remake, maybe even some zombies and boss textures, Im not planning on using them for mods, and if i did i would give you full credit in the readme file,

as i said before your work is amazing, another thing i checked out your website, ( the pre renders you put up for download are brilliant) but I couldent help notice thats all there was up there, are you still gathering content to upload to it??

thanks and i hope you reply.

We can rip REmake textures? How about models?

Won't be a problem at all, however I can't do anything ATM. I can't gurantee, but please check back in about a week ;p

The reason why there is nothing at "The Coroner" ATM is because THIA.

John (Dot50Cal) has his own plans to incorporate BH/RE material into THIA in the coming future, and i'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. I've had alot of materials hosted which i've removed of my own will because they have/will eventually become features for the main site (THIA).

The purpose of "The Coroner" is to archive materials as you obviously figured out by now, however, I literally have over 100GB of BioHazard materials/games that I still have to go through and organize. Combine that with the fact that most materials will be THIA features, i've still got a long way to go..

Yes, REbirth textures can be ripped, and in fact were ripped a few years back. The models are "unrippable" ATM though, probably because noone with the right knowledge has looked at them in HEX yet ;)

Notes/Description:

RESIDENT EVIL 4 / BIOHAZARD 4 TEXTURE PATCH 2.0 (PC VERSION)

This texture patch is for patched or unpatched versions of the game and can be installed in european american or asian versions of the game.

It contains upgraded textures for all the stages of the game included "separate ways" ("the another order"), "assignment ada" ("ada the spy") and "the mercenaries" minigames

Now the Pc version of this game has Nintendo GameCube textures or better. I've ripped all the textures from the GC version but there still was some low-res textures. So, I created new textures, too.

The screenshots are a small example of what you find when this patch is installed.

This patch contains a few pmd files, too. I didn't put there by mistake. they are very important. KEEP THEM! and there are 3 ogg files too. I contains the GC barrel model made by Nacery, too

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

0- Make a backup of your modded textures an skins because this will overwrite all the .tga files

1- You need to have all the 6 part in the same folder, then execute/open part 1.exe. Install/Extract the patch in your "Resident Evil 4" or "biohazard 4" folder. This should create or overwrite xfile, xscr and ogg folders

2- Enjoy

Again, excellent job well done, albert. Give yourself a pat on the back! Tens of thousands of fans (literally), including myself cannot thank you enough for your effort to correct Bio4 PC's textures.

Concerning the Bio4 PS2/PC ports' TPL textures, my interweb buddy St.Vampyre sucessfully created a TPL conversion tool, but disappeared back into the Bio-Shock scene before releasing it.

Truth be told, i'm not even sure if he finished it (hints no release). Either that, or he simply got tired of the Bio4 modding scene, and left without thinking to release it. I am still in contact with him, so i'll see what I can do. :)

I may have mentioned this before, but for those that don't already know, St.Vampre's tools for modding Bio/RE 4 PC can be found at his official mini-site archive found here:

PD: i love that jason. part VII jason is the best one for me!!

Heh, indeed Part VII Jason Vorhees kicks some major ass! I'm a Friday The 13th buff, so of course I like them all. Part IV and VII versions of Jason are my favorites, can't decide which I like better...

In Part IV, I admired the sheer brutality of his character, and the movie can actually be a bit creepy at times. Part VII, however, Jason is simply a beast. The scene from my avater happens to be one of my favorites' from that installment:

Blonde Female - "Fuck you! No, fuck you both!"
*turns around and opens door, Jason is standing there with an Axe*
*screams from other characters in the movie*
*Jason raises his Axe, splits Blonde Female's head with it*
*Jason then picks her up, and throws her across the room*

Classic horror at its best.

Great new from the PCSX2 Team.....Ethernet/Network support!

The importance? One word - Outbreak. With future improvements to PCSX2, and possible future Outbreak hacks, we will all be playing File #1 online once again!

I've already began to investigate Outbreak's executable, and to my surprise, it won't be as hard to hack as I had previously thought. The only downfall is that one will have to make a (rather large) PPF patch for distribution.

After the hacking is all said and done, all we will need is a dedicated server. :D

You were right to call it `Cornier edition' their was a special Japan, but a better Hong Kong edition. You were right about the CPK file, but you were wrong about one thing. You needed this add on disc, to copy files into CPK & override the written copyrights. This also added weapons to the CPK file with movie cutscenes in games, knd of a update. But capcom in-house only version. This contained longer intro movie. It was later sold in HK so you didn't have to bother burning files to your PC.:)

chris26
11-18-2007, 11:38 AM
Hello again, a couple of years ago I bought a Japanese development version from ebay from a guy in Germany. It was a back up of the sale. The disc is too big, it will not play on my Saturn, and it reads one track not two. I was looking at your ability to understand hex, maybe if you teach online on how to edited headers away from CPK movie files maybe I can get it working. This version might just be just the protected T-1219G, Japan release missing the extra intro or maybe not?- _-:waga waga:billy::):rollseyes

MarkGrass
11-18-2007, 02:42 PM
Hello, chris26. I'm not quite sure if I understand what you're saying.

From my understanding, you have a copy of BioHazard for the SegaSaturn called the "Cornier Edition", and you want to convert MOVIE.CPK into seperate movie files?

If so, the file MOVIE.CPK must be copied to your harddrive. Unfortunately, MOVIE.CPK has all of the videos archived into one file, obviously. You will have to manually extract each CPK from the file MOVIE.CPK by looking for the header "FILM". Simple, really, but if you have any problems, send it to me and i'll have a look at it.

chris26
11-19-2007, 08:19 AM
The limited version was called `Cornier edition' the version I bought was a dev saturn software.

Today I have been using hex more and found how easy it is to delete files, from a game. I used my Japanese T-1219G Saturn Biohazard & have tried varies attempts to find the missing intro by deleting copyright that didn't work.

I found various hidden CPK MOVIE FILES in the TITLE FILE B. That reads CPK version 1.20 1995-10-05. it had tones of code. I am going to attempt to delete all the movie CPK FILE & replace it with this?:)

MarkGrass
11-19-2007, 09:10 AM
it had tones of code. I am going to attempt to delete all the movie CPK FILE & replace it with this?

I don't think that would be a great idea. Replacing the original MOVIE.CPK with code definitely isn't the answer to your problem. Are you positive this version has a missing intro?

chris26
11-19-2007, 10:28 AM
Cornor your right, this version doesn't have the intro it was a mistake, the files were probably the original title resident evil FMV opening, where he screams resident evil? I tried burning every possible way of removing the code. I first remove the old code, the replacing it, then I just added this version to the code. The hex programme so good it replaced the old code when I paste it. I tried various other attempt like removing the copyrights from code, & removing protected BIN files?

So I think the only way we will ever see this movie again is through a YAHOO AUCTION JAPAN SELLER, or EBAY.:waga waga:billy::)

Yepp, TPL conversion, already been done.
Apparently ages before RE4 even came -_-

As soon as I discovered that... I was like... oh, FUCK. I just wasted a bloody week making one when it's been out there the whole time. I realized, blah, screw this shit... I'm looking for a REAL job instead.

And I did D:
Awesome folks at this company picked me up to help develop their military-defense-related graphics engine. Pure pwnage job.

Anyway back to the TPLs (well the PS2/PC TPLs anyway)... in a nutshell: it's apparently a common format for PS2 games, and can be viewed with Game Graphics Studio.

Going backwards from GIF to TPL, I wrote a converter for. But I believe it might also be out there already after hearing people (who've no way of doing something that capable themselves) successfully putting background images into the game.
I do have that converter done though, if anyone needs. :0
(GIF to TPL only, not the other way around)

Going through the EFF files was a little more difficult, they could be stripped down to 2 more levels of indexed files (pretty obvious just by looking at the head of the files). And at the second level of the EFF files, you have your TPLs.

I was actually working on an EFF explorer (to view the files in the EFF without actually extracting) before some source *cough*Brazil*cough* told me they were successfully able to translate the whole game (including TPLs in the EFFs) with Game Graphics Studio. Hoo damn, a bloody waste of time.

Mr_Zombie
11-20-2007, 06:16 AM
But there's one issue with Game Graphics Studio (at least AFAIK) - you can't change resolution of images you want to put into game - the program automatically resize it. So even though custom title screens etc are availiable, we are still stuck with low-res bitmaps. And if I remember correctly, the converter you once shown on RE4 mod forum allowed you to put hi-res bitmap as a title screen.

And congratulations about your new job :).

that's true... there's a lot of palette problems with Game Graphics Studio and a lot of files with an unknown kind of interlace method...
i would be great if we can edit every tpl file... then i could create a perfect complement for the texture patch: hi res menus and effects!:)

Heya heya. ;)

Well here's a quick compilation of an EFF extractor and a GIF to TPL convertor:

If anyone decides to use them, please read the info files first! :o

I was experiencing some problems with the EFF offsets when I was still working on this stuff, but couldn't remember where I left off. So PLEASE BACKUP beforehand (just replacing the menu backgrounds won't cause a problem I don't think).

(Feel free to relay this to the RE4 mod boards)

You are the best, Mark. Do you have a similar pack full of File 2 texture rips? I just wish I could get my hands on higher resolution versions. It must suck for the concept artist to never have his art displayed at any sizable resolution.

MarkGrass
12-20-2007, 01:02 PM
what can be ripped from File #2 (ATM) is included in that archive. Without getting too technical, most of the textures on File #2's disc have a really weird CLUT...

Krispy
12-20-2007, 03:10 PM
Oh, I see. I noticed that the File 2 gallery images are much higher resolution than those of File 1. I doubt it is related to the CLUT issue (I have no idea what that means :) ), but it certainly adds to my yearning for the textures.

Want to win a free, sealed copy of BioHazard Zero Trial Edition for the GameCube? Simply, make me a website banner and have it sent to me before the new year. Before I continue, this is only availible to those in the USA, sorry. The image will of course be used for The Coroner website, and must have something to do with BH/RE (duh). EDIT: Image must be atleast 640x480.

I'm not too picky, but the image must be prior to Bio4 (BioHazard 4+ material = NO), and, please, atleast have some prior PhotoShop/etc. knowledge. The winner will recieve the sealed copy of BioHazard Trial Edition mailed to them overnight, for free. Be creative, and good luck!

I am truely sorry! I'm positve i'm excluding some great talent, but it would cost a bit much to ship overseas. :(

EDIT:

You want a "banner" at 640x480? That's more like a whole page.

Eh, it'll be for a title screen actually; the site is optimized for 1440x900. That and i've got several copies of BH0 Trial Edition collecting dust. ;P

What is the purpose of this banner? Promote your website for other websites, introduce gamers to your webpage, something else?

It's really nothing more than a gift for a fan of THIA. It (the image) will be displayed at the index of my archive (The Coroner), and someone "out there" gets a free copy of BioHazard Zero Trial Edition.

Do you want a special text on this banner? I mean, the title of your website + something else?

I can write a program to do that. ;P I really need a great image, nothing more or less.

Hi, I'm kinda really late here, but anyways.

- Is it just me or is the site (http://markgrass.the-horror.com/) not working?
- Does anyone know where else I can get Cube Media Player / a guide (or at least a similar thing)?
- If anyone extracted videos from Outbreak before, do the videos still have the black borders around it? Or is it like RE4 PC files? (Oh, same question for RE4 PS2).
- Do they only extract the videos that are in the movie viewer? I'm guessing they probably wouldn't have the ones that have multiple characters in it (since they probably wouldn't have a cutscene for every possible character combination), but some cutscenes don't but are still excluded for some reason...

I wouldn't consider using Cube Media Player anymore. For better MPG/ADX extraction, follow the link below. An example rip is also provided.

Since I don't know how drunk/hungover i'm going to get this new year's, the site is now open.

I'm not messing around with HTML anymore, so you can browse through the folders and grab what you want without having to navigate [poorly written] HTML. More uploads will come and will be reported whenever.

@doomed - I don't understand. Well, I understand what is being done, but I don't understand the modder's arrogance:

AND please for al lthat is good and holy....DO NOT SEND ME PM'S asking how this works., and please dont spam this thread asking how I did it, cuz I will ignore you, lmfao =) Just being honost.......

If he's not going to tell people "how it's done", then what the hell is the point? :uhh:

I havent been into this thread in a while, is that banner contest still open?

I obviously held it at the wrong time, and i'd rather not discuss previous "entries" I recieved, so, no, it's not open and never again will I ever hold an open-internet "contest" like that. :\

EDIT: @Everyone wanting backgrounds - They'll be uploaded soon.

You can convert them to .tga using GC tplx there just textures for various screens and characters / text.

Download Link: ---> *HERE IS THE PATCH!!* <--- (http://files.filefront.com/Resident+Evil+4+High+resourar/;9902370;/fileinfo.html)

Notes/Description:

-------------------------------------
This will replace the low resolution textures of HUD, menus, fonts, effects (water, fire, blood ...) with high resolution textures.

It seems this patch requires a lot of memory (i'm not sure, i'm not an expert in this kind of things...), so there will be the possibility of installing only the HUD, HUD + menus, HUD + menus + effects (complete installation)

You'll have to run the game through the texmod tool in order to load the new textures. So, the installation is not permanent. If your computer can't handle this patch you can run the game as always (executing game.exe) and the default low-res textures will be loaded.

****IMPORTANT: This version only includes replacement textures for english text. So, if you are using a multilanguage version of the game, select english to enjoy all the hi-res textures.
If this patch works ok for everyone i will also create textures for spanish, french, german and italian in the future.*****
-------------------------------------

-------------------------------------
Patch contents:

a. Texmod tool
b. High resolution textures
c. definition files
d. 3 "game.exe" versions that will work ok with this patch (korean 1.0, korean 1.1, euro 1.1. all of them are NO-DVD cracked versions)
-------------------------------------

-------------------------------------
INSTALLATION STEPS:

1. Extract the contents of the patch wherever you want

2. Now it's time to decide a few things:

The patch includes standard (but enhanced) aureola effect (that red/blue/green shinny thing around the item or treasure when you kill an enemy) and noise effect ala Silent Hill.

In the "VARIATIONS" folder you will find alternative textures: no noise effect, hard noise effect, less visible aureola and invisible aureola. The only thing you have to do is to copy the textures you want and paste them inside the "TEXTURES" folder overwriting the default textures.

Hi-resolution texts and gamepad buttons:

If you want to enjoy hi-resolution texts and buttons, you'll have to configure your gamepad like is shown in the screenshots inside the "BUTTONS PACKS" folder. Decide which is the best configuration for you, then copy the textures from one of the folders (pcpad/pcpad(2)/ps2/ps3/xbox/xbox360) and paste them inside the "TEXTURES" folder overwriting the default textures (if you are going to use the "pcpad configuration" don't do anything because those are the default textures in this patch). i guess the keyboard configuration has nothing to do with it. so, if you use the keyboard just change the gamepad configuration as it's stated in the pcpad configuration.gif

REMEMBER: If you change the configuration of action/run/command ashley/status screen/draw knife/draw gun in a different way of those 5 configurations the game will load standard low resolution fonts

3. Place the 3 exe files you will find in the "GAME.EXE files" folder in your resident evil 4 folder

4. Place the "xfile", "xscr" and "ss" folders in your resident evil 4 folder (overwriting the existing folders and files). Remember: this will uninstall buttons replacement packs (if you installed them previously)

5. Run texmod.exe

6. Go to "Package Build"

7. Select a Definition file (they are inside the "TEXTURES" folder):

a. HUD+BUTTONS+TEXT.log (light installation)
b. HUD+BUTTONS+TEXT+MENUS.log (medium installation)
c. HUD+BUTTONS+TEXT+MENUS+EFFECTS.log (full installation)

8. Press "Build" and wait. then save the tpf file wherever you want

9. Go to "package mode"

10. "Target aplication": select one of the exe files included in the pack (if your game.exe is not a NO-DVD cracked version, this patch won't work, that's why i provided you 3 diferent game.exe versions. use the one you prefer)

11. load the tpl file you created previously (by clicking the folder icon)

12. select that tpl file in the list of the left and click "Run"

13. the program will need a few seconds to load all the textures and then the game will start

14. Repeat steps 9 to 13 everytime you want to play with hi-res eff/tpl textures

PD: You can edit every texture as you please before using texmod tool :)

I wonder how you made the Mercs, and the "codec" screens look so high res. Any way you could say? :)

Also, do you have a total size for all your texture mods? I know the texture packs were pretty huge heh. Just wondering if I can help out by hosting them here.

albert
03-28-2008, 08:29 AM
easy, i took the gamecube textures and resized them a little bit more using photoshop plugin "alien skin blowup"
of course i redone a lot of textures. not everytexture is a gamecube texture upscaled... the texture patch 2.0 is 1,39GB and the tpl/eff patch is 130MB. so yes, they are big files...

Dot50Cal

Yep, I seen the Improved Cutscenes, but I question why he kept them at that resolution. Its obviously the wrong aspect ratio. I was thinking of doing my own pack for those, since I have the ability to record 480p videos of them ;)

doomed
03-28-2008, 05:02 PM
I think that this is the correct aspect ratio for the PC version. I mean the game resizes them to the correct one to play them back.

I actually contacted him a while ago and asked him if he would be interested in collaborating with you to create a new pack, since you can get high quality captures from the Wii edition. (None of us have the high quality hardware you have)

Perhaps you can do this on your own, from your posts on several other forums I understand you have a great knowledge of video capturing/encoding.

Oh man, please make this happen!! XD

Dot50Cal
03-28-2008, 05:17 PM
Well if its 16:9, the videos are fullscreen, so that right there should show you that you should aim for a 16:9 ratio. The game adds black borders if you are running 4:3, or 16:10.

I'll probably do one, but if I do, I'd like to bundle it with the other mods to improve the game (namely Albert's). :) The HD Game Models one looks interesting, but I dont like how he strayed too far from some of the original concepts of the game (such as the herb mixture icons, I think they look bad in the tube form on your inventory). I wish more people would follow Albert's lead, and improve on the game using the existing assets as a base, and not to modify major things too far from the original. I think thats the way to go.

doomed
03-28-2008, 05:36 PM
I checked the original videos that came with the game and they are 512x336. (Aspect Ratio = 1.5) The PS2 ones use the same aspect ratio as well. He didn't make a mistake.

Dot50Cal
03-28-2008, 05:50 PM
Well no, he didnt make a mistake, he followed what was on the game, which are anamorphic videos. But all they did was stretch them to get that resolution, so any benefits are lost. Its best to just resize them to what the game will use, a 16:9 aspect ratio, as they are just "squeezed" down to that resolution anyway. You're just wasting bandwidth otherwise.

The white lines on the hair kill it, he should have lowered the resolution to minimize that effect.

I was bored (damn! 5 months to the RE5 release!!! aaargghhh!!), so I spent some of my free time editing the bio2 beta version song of "The First Malformation of G" which is very similar to one of the bio1.5 trailer songs but it's not exactly the same song...

I edited the psf file from bio2beta in order to delete some tones and then I took the missing tones from "This Is My Nest" theme (the psf file, too) and mixed them with "Audition". So, no captured/extracted from crappy audio quality trailers were used! and now... it sounds exactly the same bio1.5 trailer song!

10MB - uncompressed wav file ;)
