  • An idea for THIA

I know people have promised content in the past and stuff, and couldn't deliver on that for personal reasons or time etc but whatever you do DO NOT GET RID OF THE WEBSITE. Instead of keeping the site RE related expand that to all avenues of horror. Movies, video games you name it! That way the news feed stays updated with all the current horror news. Change the forums too to reflect that, not a complete overhaul right away, but revise the categories, change the logo, and that little bar at the top on the forums. In the end make the transition from RE to anything and everything horror.

The problem is, if we barely have enough time to do Resident Evil things, diluting it further with more news isn't the answer. I've tried moving from a relatively specific topic, to a broader topic in the past, and it rarely works, especially without major changes. And unfortunately, it takes effort to make major changes. Simply handing over the keys to the city isn't the answer either.

I'd be willing to take a crack at news stuff, I could find a lot. Trust I'm a horror maniac, I could fill this site with horror news faster than you could say holy shit! It'll be worth a short, and letting someone else take the reign for while like a different staff member would work, one would think.

Doesn't this site loosely cover Silent Hill and Dead Rising as well? With games like Dead Island, Lollipop Chainsaw, that game with zombies and the little girl you escort, (can't think of the title, too lazy to Google it..) a new Fatal Frame game all around the corner, I don't see why the site couldn't expand to cover more horror games. All those updates would make the site much more lively! I'm sure plenty of people would be willing to help post news, myself included. I love this site and I don't want to see it wither away! Let's fight to keep it alive, and hell, make it even better in the process. I'd love to see this site expand. I can imagine a more active newsfeed, bigger forums, user submitted walkthroughs/reviews, a gallery, etc, etc.. Lots of possibilities! Just need some motivated people to make it happen! I'm definitely willing to give you guys my time and talent. ..

EDIT: The game I couldn't think of is "Amy"! XD..

There is nothing stopping people from creating threads with walkthroughs, news for other games or movies, or anything like that. Im just speaking from experience that initial excitement quickly disappears, and leaves with a lot of stuff incomplete, not up to quality, or entirely dead, possibly while driving away people who came here for a no-frills Resident Evil site.

That said, Im not the be-all-end-all, and am rather just voicing my opinion, which is built on personal experiences.

While its probably a good idea for the domain name itself "the-horror", this is a Resident Evil site first and foremost, other stuff is completely secondary..

              Word.

Never say never but at the moment this site is already in the process of being stripped to it's core, being a RE/SH forum with News updates. From what I hear the only extra content will be the features/projects that already exsist.

But by changing that, you can reach out to a whole new audience. Other stuff doesn't have to be secondary. I believe that if we decide to change, it will be for the better. As my dad always said change is good!

Not overly keen on the idea. People already have reHorror for that.

Well, to me from what I've read in this thread and the other one, and no offense intended, some of the staff seem to have lost motivation to drive this site any further. I understand that the features are a lot of work on top of already running the site. So, if the staff has lost interest or lacks the time for the site, what's wrong with bringing in some new staff to help out? Seems to me that with the lack of motivation, the site will just stagnate forever, or until it disbands.

Another thing I'm hearing is the lack of faith in any sort of changes. I trust that you and other staff have had experiences with people who may of offered help and then gave up along the way. I know it's a frustrating, and time consuming process. Which is why some new staff may help that. It is a gamble, but it's not like the site has anything to lose? The community here is very strong, I don't see a few changes deterring anyone. I see them bringing in new people if done right.

No disrespect is intended by this. I know that blood, sweat and tears went into creating and continually maintaining this site. It's a fantastic site because of all the hard work put into it, and because of that it has a lot of potential! That's why I have faith in these proposed changes. All these successful sites had to take the leap eventually; just gotta have faith. No need for some huge overhaul overnight either! Just need to get some gears in motion, you know?

Oh, and of course RE should remain the focus and priority of the site! RE being the focus would keep the current community alive, while other horror games, and movies, though I'm more fond of just sticking to games, would just bring in new people, and potentially new opportunities.

I've not lost motivation to drive this site, but the issue is that we need a new admin to help run it who can make changes to the site. Like this VB4 update we were going to have and a new forum design, that never materialized. Dot50Cal won't appoint an admin unless it's someone he trusts and I don't think Carn has the time or interest enough to create new content/revitalize the site. Me, DM and Alzaire all pretty much agree we could do with a new admin, but it's the issue of who really. I think Alzaire would be best but don't think he'd really like it or have the time to make new content anyway. I wouldn't mind doing it either. I've said if it's finance Dot's worried about, I'd be happy to buy it.

Really not keen on this "general horror" idea, reHorror did that when it became "rely on horror", tried to go mainstream and it killed it.

I said some of the staff, not all. I know you have definitely showed interest in keeping the site alive, and do so everyday by monitoring it, and giving your time. .. I do hope you guys find some fresh, new admin. I'd hate to see the site crash when it has such potential. Sorry, I can't offer any money, I'm dead broke, but I can offer time and skill if you guys ever need it.

I hear you about going to mainstream. I do agree that RE should be the focus of the site always. I pictured the site growing a bigger community based around RE then expanding to some other horror games on the side. The site already covers Silent Hill and Dead rising to an extent. I don't think a few other horror games would sink the whole site, but you guys have the experience, not me. Haha!

I think I've said all I can say! Again, I hope you guys find a new admin! Don't let the site fall apart! ..

As the Voice of Yesteryear, and probably the only person kicking around bar Dot and maybe Enrico if he ever wandered over here from Dark Legacy who actually remembers any of this, this is actually closer to how the site was originally. As I recall there were four or five sections, RE, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis...Blue Stinger? Something like that.

Of course, those never really got updated and there wasn't any traffic on the forum about 'em bar the odd topic, and eventually those sub-forums were removed, but it was how the site used to be. Mind, this was probably a decade or more ago, before I went to University.

Going mainstream I think would be a good idea, I mean we could be like those horror sites you find on the web but with a large forum community. Just cause reHorror tried to mainstream and fail doesn't mean the same will happen to THIA. We need dedicated staff (towards the site as it is now) and SOME of which we already have. We just need Darkmoon as the boss and we're set

See, I really don't like the idea of being in charge. How can I fight the man if I am the man? I just can't think of a better candidate who'd actually want the job more than I do. We do need an extra admin, unless Carn gets his flow back or Dot becomes interested or Ice wakes up from the coma I assume he's been in for years.
