In this topic, lets discuss some of our ideas as to where the series could go in terms of plot.

Outside of the family plot, I'd have to say the series has the most potential in the
"What measure is a human and what qualifies one as such a being?"

You see, we could have the various tyrants, bio weapons, or even a new amalgamation in the vein of Alex mercer from prototype, gain sentience and lead us, the players, through a story which seeks to answer the above mentioned plot.

Sadly, unless naughty dog, eidos, or some other quality story maker comes to help the series, I doubt capcom would ever try their hand at such a tale.

Revealed at Sony's 2009 E3 press conference. Said to be "A whole new game". I think most of us have forgotten about this one.

Would absolutely love to hear some new info (or speculation) on it.

Too bad it was obviously cancelled. Wonder what it would've been about.

Rather than be a simple "whats your favorite, and least favorite RE game thread", this is more about what entries in the series you think made it...

Rather than be a simple "whats your favorite, and least favorite RE game thread", this is more about what entries in the series you think made it great, and then made it fuck awful. Of the now 6 main entries(3 and 4 are main entries, even if they are still side stories) you get to choose three, the 3rd choice is your runner up for your either great, or awful choices. You can have the same game for elevated, or devastated if you want.

Elevated:
As much flak as it gets for its story, some of which is earned, I'm gonna say RE4 was the one that elevated the series the most.

It'd been what...an almost 5 year gap between RE4 and code V and the changes the series went through between those games really was pretty amazing. It wasn't the new combat system, which added a lot of skill to the game or the weapon upgrades, it was the also the fact that the game was a much more open environment to explore, though exploration was still pretty limited.

It also proved that the series could use different enemies than the undead flesh eaters it'd used for so long and still be effective.

While it robbed the players of getting to take down Umbrella themselves, it did move the story along and take it into a new, and for a time, interesting direction. Global bio terrorism outbreaks instead of "small" ones like cities and different, though weird, villains that were never part of Umbrella.

It was different game that had enough survival horror to still keep that genre description, but it started a new trend that the series hasn't managed to recover from...COD player pandering.

Devastated:
RE5. They ended the Umbrella story arc the series built itself on with this game, and they did it so fucking bad it still makes me mad.Its not just the shitty "you have x hours to save the world" doomsday story cliche they chose, its also choosing to half assedly wind up characters storylines in a rushed copy and paste job of the previous game in the series.

So much of RE5 feels like a condensed version of RE4 in terms of bosses, some of the level design, and the over abundance of quicktime events made it feel like a lazy sequel. To this day I still cant believe they spent almost 5 years making that one game and A: Its short B: Its lazy. The Majini were nothing special, just copy and pastes of the Ganados, the characters in this game were all just stupid(RE has never been known for having characters that smart, but rock bottom stupid is everyones intelligence in this game) and C: its unsatisfying. If you're gonna finally end the original story arc, why are you ending it with just 3 characters from the beginning? The existence of other characters who have encountered Wesker, as well as Umbrella were completely ignored.

Like Barry, Rebecca, Claire, Leon, or Adas inclusion wouldn't have added anything to this game at all. -_-

If the whole point of the game was the climax of the original story arc, how stupid do you have to be to only include a bare bones cast who where there from the beginning to get any resolution at the end? Especially with how much more dramatic the series story arcs have been becoming, you'd think having at least Rebecca in the 5th games story could have added something.

Co-op is fun with a human player, outside of that the Sheva bot will give you a bad time...shes worse than the L4d AI at times.

Runner up(devestated)
RE4. I still enjoy RE4 a lot, but its ultimately responsible for the series downfall in that it introduced 3 new ideas that have fucked the series over:

Quicktime events.
action over mystery and atmosphere.
An excuse to tell lazier stories with characters no one gives a shit about, or wants to remember. Sheva, Irving, Excella, Simmons, Carla, Salazar, Ashley, Hunnigan, Saddler, Jake, Uruburos, and C-Virus I'm looking at you. All were written in a different era of video games where games are rivaling movies in terms of story telling and have no excuse for being only slightly better than VG characters from the late 90's.

Las Plagas was, and still is the one virus I still find interesting for some reason, might be due to it resembling "The Thing" and my being a big fan of that film.

Its been almost a decade since RE4 and the only decent RE game out there, that still can call itself an RE game, is Revelations.
Revelations goes back to atmospheric, mystery, and has a better story than 4,5, and 6 combined. Its not that amazing a story, its just so much better than 4,5, and 6's stories and I'm still curious to see more of Jessica and Raymond as they managed to make some impact character wise.

I would have liked some more horror at atmosphere, but after a look back at the decades RE entries, its got the most of what made the series good in it...despite Quint and Keith.

So these are the rules of the game. feel free to share your thoughts and entries.

So last week a wierd Russian "beta" build of Abe's Exoddus was released on the net. Apparently it's a beta version although it has clearly been modded and partially translated. I'm curious if you can employ similar methods to this game to extract backgrounds as you can with RE games because I'm curious as to whether the original retail game contained beta material or whether this is actually a translation of a beta build. My instincts tell me it's the former but of course there's no way of knowing unless you check. Anyone got any advice on the matter? I'm really curious to see what's inside both the retail game and this "beta" to see if it's just a hack job or actually something that was once legit before it was translated. My guess is the retail discs contain beta backgrounds and attempts were made to make the game different to EU and NA versions of the game by using them instead, but who knows?

As a long time Batman and big Arkham series fan I was wondering what other peoples thoughts are on the recently announced Arkham Origins game (the prequel to the first two Arkham Games).

It worries me that RockSteady are not producing the game and instead it's being made by Warner Brothers. Also the fact that Kevin Conroy has been dropped in favor of a new, younger voice actor isn't something I wanted to hear, I'm hoping that they'll be going for someone who sounds like Conroy.
It'd be interesting to know what other villains will be making an appearance since only Black Mask, Dead Shot and The Penguin have been officially confirmed. I never thought Black Mask would make it as a main villain in the current Batman series but it's refreshing to know that lesser know villains are being used, I'm hoping Mad Hatter will make a return and wishing that we might get appearances from Scarface and the Ventriloquist, Ratcatcher, Maxie Zeus or the Clock King.

I'm working on my own online multiplayer action adventure game. This is a brand new game with an original story. It's not a mod. It might end up being fanfiction quality against my best effort, but it isn't fanfiction. I'm emulating the mechanics I love that the original RE games emulated from previous games, that's all the similarity there will be. There's no bows or zombies involved. What will be different is that you will be able to interact a lot more with the environment than most adventure games I know of.

While I love fixed cameras and this game will have that system, I know it's short comings. They will be planned to transition in a manner that won't leave a blind corner unless it's logical for one to be there.

There's no diffuse maps yet. I am going to photograph my own texture bases next month. I'm hoping to make enough so I can purchase a better camera. Most of the professional work I did was making up diffuse textures so it's odd they're not the first thing I went into. But I want to do that job only once. So I'm holding off if I can afford a better camera than what I have.

Here is a link to my indiegogo campaign to try and get this going:

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dr...ltiplayer-game

I made a mistake in the duration, I will have to relaunch it longer once it's over. I don't need 100k right away, but I would need at least 1/20th of that soon to keep going full time:

Features:

Multiple characters to choose from with unique features and abilities.

All scenarios will be playable with online partners as an option

Walk and Shoot

Switch to over the shoulder cam any time you want to

Auto aim in 3D, switch targets from nearest to farthest

Dodging / Evasion moves to avoid being hit

Unlockable weak characters for extra challenge

Independently customizable difficulty level for action and puzzles: easy, normal or difficult

Each character will talk

Light weight objects in the environment won't be locked in place. You'll be able to move them around

The original monster maker(He didn't do King Kong, he did do just about everlasting else), and special effects industry himself, has passed away at 93.

Without his amazing skills and talents, monster movies as well as stop motion special effects wouldn't have gained the attention they did. He was a one of a kind and I'm really sad to see him go. Like thousands of young men, his work on "Jason and the Argonauts" was really one of my fondest memories as a child.

Seeing his monsters as "real" and not a special effect was all due to his skills as an artist and an animator. Even now at 32 I treasure these memories and wish I could have met the man in person.

RIP good sir, rest well.

Pretty much as the title puts it I'm going to be writing a fan inspired story about Resident Evil. The reason I say fan story and not fan-fiction, other than my dislike of the term, is because unlike fan-fics I'm not going to try and shoe horn my ideas and story into canon no matter how much I can try to have it "make sense". In fact this goes off a continuity of its own. So an alternate storyline or what-if story.

What kind of what-if story you may ask? Well it's a rewrite of a project I worked on back in high school of what I thought 1.5 would have been like basing off the screen shots and other sources, yet oddly never ran across the PSM footage and my own imagination. Then within recent after discovering Dominion's mod and the leaked beta got me thinking maybe I should revisit my notes and give it another go. Pretty much I'm going to incorporate some of Dominion's mod's story ideas and will have to wait on the team's finished restoration for the RPD layout and some story info, tho I will be altering it to my own story.

A little bit of a rundown of my story without giving away too much. Sorry if it seems really vague but I have difficulty writing previews without going into full spoiler mode.

Basically the story follows the perspective of a member of Stars Bravo Team by the name of Damien Winters. He's 23 years old and was brought to the attention of Stars by Chris and Barry at the local shooting rang when the two were amazed with the young man's marksmanship. During his time of training they discover he's an ace computer hacker. So a good shot and smart to boot I bet you're wondering why they would put him in Bravo and not have booted out Brad's chicken ass right? Well aside from story convenience there is actually a reason for it that is revealed during the course of everything. It starts from the time that Bravo Team being sent in to explore the Arklay Mountains. It obviously goes on through 1.5/2 and I'm not sure but I may try to swing an alternate telling of a 3rd installment.

So hmmm that's it for now. I'm going to begin work on the RE1 arc in the meantime. And I was wondering if anyone would actually give it a read if I posted it here? Oh for professional sake if anyone is a good editor please hit up my inbox because while I consider myself a decent writer my editing skills aren't what I would've hoped for due to my brain's inability to see obvious mistakes.

Oh and somewhat spoiler. There will be a mention of a modified scenario of RE0.
