And so it begins. When they said its a law against "Offending religions", they don't mean any other religion than theirs -_-

Woah woah now, this is far too rational. Next we'll have freedom of speech and then just think where it could end up. Disgusting.

People have different perspective about blasphemy simply because of different beliefs and culture. So, it will depend on how people or religious group view things.

The sad thing is that more people are probably going to watch it because of all the attention it's getting.

I mean, who else watched that video and thought "this is so low-budget and horrible that I'm not going to bother paying any attention to it"?

There isn't a set standard even among Muslims. Same as every other religious group, really. Like some Jewish people consider writing down the Big Guy's name is Blasphemous because writings can be destroyed or corrupted.

    Blasphemy according to whose standards?
This is the reason it probably won't happen (although there's thousands of people who I'm sure would love for it to happen)

Because just going no to other's proposals means that they will just go no to yours. No matter how silly they are, they need to be discussed. Besides, to Muslim countries this is a big deal...not as big a deal as, say, the drone bomb attacks on various Muslim countries over the last year, but such is life.

It's not like the UN can actually do anything. It doesn't have the ability to intervene in genocides, one of the reasons it was created, so how the hell will it enforce banning blasphemy? Which won't happen. Not a big enough majority of countries will go for it in any vote.

    Blasphemy a crime?

THE divide in world opinion over what constitutes free speech will be on display again this week at the United Nations, where arguments over a proposed blasphemy law were an annual feature for a decade.

    Seriously, this is absurd.

There are almost 7 Billion people on earth, if 2 billion of them dont like that the other 5 can make fun/be critical of their religion then they need to grow the fuck up. The world should not have to conform to this, the fact that its even being discussed by the UN shows the real problem is that people wont stop and say "no", to ridiculous demands like this.
Working...
