There is another way to run the trial on the gamecube without it been un modded if you have the right tool, they don't make them now but I have Max Drive Pro that the code junkies created and there was an exploit found that allows the gamecube too run backups or homebrew without a mod chip, just so I know since I only came upon this topic are the links for the japanese version of the trial?

480i/p look almost the same to me on my current HDTV. The only difference I noticed is that 480p look a little blurrier. Either setting is great though, it's just up to you on what you want to do.

alf, 480p on a game that doesn't natively support it has funky side effects. All the RE games suffer from this, such as Zero squishing the image, showing area's that you shouldn't see and such. As much as 480p is ideal, the side effects on most (all?) games are too overbearing and outweigh the benefits.
Thank you Dot for clearing that up, I was starting to get my hopes up thinking this would turn out nicely but putting all this effort in for one feature doesn't seem to be worth it at the moment. Last night I was doing a few comparisons from Progressive Scan mode turned on and off and was really getting excited at how well Resident Evil would look if I could force 480P.

Sorry for dragging the topic into a grey area.

Sorry it started to head in that direction, we didn't mean it to. Moding a console doesn't always mean piracy though, what about homebrew/imports?

I noticed RE4 looks whack in 480P. Like the screen is in anamorphic widescreen.

Back on subject. The RE4 demo I downloaded in this thread is the same as the Famistu demo.

Yeah GCOS can add 480P support to all NGC games, but it isn't perfect yet. Some game just won't run in 480P.

We are using a modified Viper BIOS that can run the games in 480P. The native BIOS don't support it though. If you want something reliable, just get a mod-chip as I hear softmods can screw up plus my brother swears by softmods as our xbox died 3 times with a softmod.

You can test if a game already has progressive scan output by holding down the b button whilst it boots.
All I really want to do is play my GameCube games in 480P support. l already have the neccessary components cables I'm just looking to play them all with 480P.

Can the gcosv4f application be used as a softmod on the GameCube? I see the app runs on the Wii (saw the app in action on youtube) but I would rather use my GameCube if possible.

Hey FeurMensch, would you happen to know if any of these chips add 480P support to all GameCube games regardless if the game supports the feature or not?

We have like six NGC lying around here, all chipped up of course.

The chips for NGC that we have are:
    1) XenoGC
    2) Qoob SX
    3) Qoob Pro
    4) Viper GC
    5) DuoQ
    6) Viper GC *clone*
    7) NinjaGC
