A good government you say? well first off I'll say this, there is no such thing as a perfect government.but ya know, its stuff like this I see in other countries I wish would happen here :/
Two of Iceland's most senior former bankers have been jailed for making reckless business loans, following investigations stemming from the collapse of the country's banks in 2008.

I'd say Icelands government is pretty damn good. Up until Elizabeth Warren, we've had jack shit done about the banking problems and corruption here in the US and she may not be enough.

And for anyone who was curious, 4-chan has been on the case and they've made some interesting findings on their think tank. They've actually done a decent job on their findings as well.

I like how people moaning about surveillance-esque routines and propositions thinks so highly of themselves that they honestly think they've got something to hide and that someone gives a shit about what kind of retarded shit they do in their everyday life.

It's also a fantastic flip around scenario whenever something (such as this tragic incident) happens, and you see the same people start moaning and questioning where the government was, where the special forces where, why Superman didn't save the day, etc.

This isn't just your usual bullshit online surveillance, its categorizing every citizens e-mail, bank account, chats and storing them all into their new Data center.

Heres what the NSA has been up too, and I HATE having to post this crazy sounding shit...but its becoming a reality.

And the NSA's new data center
The National Security Agency's immensely secret project in the Utah desert will intercept, analyze, and store yottabytes of the world's communications—including yours.

What is the NSA's Utah Data Center? Is it being built to protect us from cyber attack or to store data and spy on Americans?

What about NYs police state and their "stop and frisk" policy that violates so many laws as well as certain amendments of the document that the US was founded on.

Or the Patriot acts bullshit thats had the CIA and FBI torturing terrorists, and "terrorists" for info? Or the FBI frequently creating, and then at the last minute stopping, terrorists here at home?
The latest terrorist plot thwarted by the FBI is yet another example of how the agency creates terrorism in order to take credit for stopping it, and scares the American people into supporting expenditures on wars and homeland security that are unnecessary and forfeiting liberties for security that is not under threat.

The reason there are so many damn 9/11 conspiracies is partially due to all the newfound power the last 2 administrations have pushed for and enforced on us as well as continue to expand upon. But also due to lots of oddities. I mean hell, even the addition of giving the government the right to indefinite detention of US citizens without trial added to the NDAA is just in-fucking-sane.

Its hard to not be paranoid when you read about shit happening, that frankly shouldn't.

Its even harder to see shit like what happened yesterday at Boston and wonder if what happened was allowed to happen, or legitimately happened to 'keep the fear alive' so that the machine an continue to grow. :/
I have a couple solutions to counter-act your fear (and maybe terrorism, altogether):

1 - Turn off your television.

2 - Find a credible news source (Fox News, reddit and 4-chan doesn't count. Especially Fox News ).

3 - Live your life; there's nothing you can do about it, anyway.

Admittedly, I utterly despise the Patriot Act, and any attempt to log our porn-site visits on a Government level (see rule #3).

"Welcome, my son. Welcome to the machine."

              1- I don't watch TV.

2- No fox news links there(minus the Reddit search results, I wouldn't put those here even as a joke, much less read them and call them "news".). Reddit is a credible news source, even though you don't care for it. It isn't perfect, no news source is but its a few steps up from Fox and their army of right wing trolls.

3- Life is a constant source of disruptions, wiser men than I have said that. That being said, minimizing the disruptions so you can live your life the best way you can is always in everyone best interest. So why act defeated when a 3rd party is trying to intrude in our personal business when you can do something about it? Surrendering before a battle begins is just acceptance, and in lifes game of give and take, if you keep giving and don't get anything out of it...you aren't playing the game. If you don't play the game, you'll never get ahead in life. Even on small personal victories.

I am amused that you choose to respond to the Patriot act but ignore the NDAA and CISPA, even though 95% of the NDAA is about paying troups...there is that 5% about indefinite detention of US citizens. If congress is passing shit like that and you aren't concerned then you aren't paying attention.

                1 -

2 - Well, I can rest easier; knowing you're not another Faux News zombie. ;)

3 - Exactly what can you or I do about it, really? Contact our congressmen, and hope they (and countless others) make 'the right choice'? I dunno about you, but I've completely lost faith in any of those bozo-clowns. Rally in Washington? Pfft. Prepare for the apocalypse? I am not defeated, rather victorious when I don't allow any aspect of my life to be ruined by fear, as I simply refuse to be spoon-fed by propaganda.

Oh, don't think for a second that I support NDAA or CISPA. They are both, shamelessly unconstitutional. On the other hand, if you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear. Again, neither directly affect my life, but I absolutely do not support this tyrannical nonsense.

I am concerned for the welfare of others, however. These bills promote racial profiling, fear-hate-war mongering, paranoia, etc - exactly what is desired by those who keep trying to get these bills passed, knowing they contain questionable material.

If someone broke into your home, trashed and stole everything, you're not going to sit back and let it happen again - you're likely to buy a security system, new dead-bolt, gun, whatever. I can understand that side of our Government's argument, it's just a matter of weeding-out the utterly-random bullshit that anonymous lobbyist throw into certain bills, for their own monetary/political gain... which seems to be happening a lot. For example, NDAA is 95% about soldier pay, the remaining 5% is about indefinite detention - I would place bets that the 5% part was snuck into that bill, anonymously.

Oh I didn't mean to imply that you were in support for the NDAA or CISPA, I was just pointing out you kind of cherry picked your previous argument.Sorry about that, I could have been a little more clear on that.

Kind of gave up on watching TV about...2 years back, I catch an episode of the Daily show once in a blue moon but I get all my entertainment online now.

Actually Mark...that 5% part was snuck in by the dems initially, and didn't say anything about the Indefinite detention of US citizens, and even had a provision against it...then this last Year McCain, who co-wrote the bill, removed that provision and made it allow the indefinite detention of US citizens without trial.

We live in a broken system and there are a few congressmen and senators out there who are doing their job, but they're far an few between. sending letters or rallying doesnt work, voting..well it used to work, not so sure anymore.

But war is a business and the War on terror has revoked a lot of civil liberties in the name of "protection and defense". If it isn't one thing, its another and they keep pushing and pushing. Thats what gets me riled up and why I keep an eye on things, because I grew up with things like privacy, chance, and hope. I dont have hope so much anymore, but I like my privacy as well as the chance to get ahead in life.

What can you do about corruption and what not? Pay attention to it, keep an eye on the people who are trying to take things away from you and even though the power of voting does get nerfed, you gotta try to stop them at the polls. Even as idealistic as that sounds, thats the only way to really get rid of these clowns.

To use your own analogy if someone broke into your house, you wouldn't hop out the window and hang out in the backyard until the burgler got what he wanted and left, would you? because if you do that then then yes, the burgler is not really affecting your life in the long run, but he is taking things away from you that you've worked for as well as violating your sense of security by invading your house. Heres the real question though...what if instead of a burgler sneaking into your house its a cop who says he has a legal right to be there, despite entering your home illegally because he "suspects" you of being part of a robbery 20 miles away that just happened 5 minutes ago and if you don't come with him willingly, hes going to use force to make you come with him. No Miranda rights mentioned, no explanation about why you're the suspect, this is an order...or else.

Because this is the same type of bullshit police state that we seem to be on the path towards. The day that officers of the law start asking for "papers" and refer to us as "citizen" is the day we all lose.

Sorry, was kinda rushed, and didn't want to completely hijack the thread.

I'm pretty sure voting still works. People have grown wise to rigging.

I don't believe the system is broken; basic rights ensure it can be repaired and improved upon, through passing of proper, future law... but, I agree - it isn't perfect. After all, both the practice and business of slavery was once legal (basic example, but you get the point).

I should have specified - "you" weren't home. Americans we caught off-guard by 9/11, which in-turn, led to many people being duped by evil politicians.

Again, people are starting to grow wise, and more thoughtful when voting (fact checking, so sad it took so long).

What you speak of is fascism. Our Government isn't fascist. Most unfortunately, police officers can be fascist... the problem is just another matter of exposing them and fixing law. Otherwise, I stand by my previous statement - if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.

Still, I see no reason to live in fear, and especially don't accept any argument against hope... and really don't want to hijack this thread any further.
