It's rebooted the series, and it'll bring in new fans as well as catering to the old school fans. I'm a die hard Trekkie, I have been for over 15 years now, and I enjoyed the film immensely. There was great characterisation, some nice in-jokes thrown around and beautiful special effects. I liked the opening sequence in particular, almost brought a tear to my eye when I heard the sounds of the newly born Kirk entering the world.
Moment I saw that redshirt descending with Kirk and Sulu to the drill platform, I already knew he was dead. He was dead before he even left the shuttlecraft. He was dead the moment he woke up in the morning in his quarters and thought, "You know, red seems like a nice colour to wear today."
