That's what I think this film has done, it's done for Star Trek what Casino Royale did for James Bond. It's rebooted the series, and it'll bring in new fans as well as catering to the old school fans. I'm a die hard Trekkie, I have been for over 15 years now, and I enjoyed the film immensely. There was great characterisation, some nice in-jokes thrown around and beautiful special effects. I liked the opening sequence in particular, almost brought a tear to my eye when I heard the sounds of the newly born Kirk entering the world.

Moment I saw that redshirt descending with Kirk and Sulu to the drill platform, I already knew he was dead. He was dead before he even left the shuttlecraft. He was dead the moment he woke up in the morning in his quarters and thought, "You know, red seems like a nice colour to wear today."
I probably could have made this clearer in my original post, but while IGN was comparing the new movie to the original series (and the following series and movies as well, I imagine) when they called it "Star Trek for Dumb People," I didn't quite mean the same thing. They were likely referring to the lack of technobabble (which was actually a plus in my book), but that's not what I meant.

Perhaps "Dumb People" was too strong of a term, because the film itself was not particularly unintelligent. What bothered me about it was the poor storytelling methods they used to get from plot point A to plot point B. There were several cases where it felt as if they couldn't figure out how to logically move from A to B, so instead they just said, "Bam! We're already there!"

Also, every time Chekov spoke, I wanted to take a power drill to my left temple.

Watched Yes Man last night. Had quite a few chuckles, but aside from the singing on the ledge part, was not "classic Jim Carrey" as I've heard so many say.

Saw Star Trek with Gareth on Friday night, brilliant film. Never been a Trekkie before, hadn't even seen one episode of Star Trek so I had no idea what to expect at all. I didn't think I would like it, but I was pleasantly suprised, I really enjoyed the film.

Y'know, why am I not shocked that you and you alone could even suggest there's such a thing as a cool kiddy rapist?

As it is, it seems this is a rumour started by an angry ex without much by way of actual proof. The man's no saint but this one seemsto be wrong, anyway.

*shrugs* Could be. And him being a "kiddy rapist," if he even was one, has nothing to do with him being cool.

Where have you been the last 10 years or so? At any rate, it hasn't been proved, at least not that I know of. But soon after he was accused of it, he came out with a children's clothing line.

Please tell me you're not serious. How in God's name can someone be cool if they rape children? To even say a child rapist can be cool is absolutely sick. Also, please use the quote facility which you've been instructed a couple of times to do, as not doing so makes your posts very incoherent and difficult to read.
