Wow the design of that back packaging is just awful. Doesn't display the games features at all and it just looks fugly as hell. Why not mention the 25+ weapons you can upgrade? Or the myriad of different melee attacks? Or the huge epic looking boss battles? That would surely make the game more marketable and attractive.

      In November Eurogamers interviewed Takeuchi:
Also discussed were the notorious installation times that accompanied the PS3 release of Capcom's Devil May Cry 4, and whether or not Resident Evil fans can expect similar impediments when RE5 drops next year. Though much remains uncertain, Takeuchi pledged, "We're still working on those technical elements in the last couple of months, but we can tell you that if users are dissatisfied with that kind of thing, then it's certainly something we keep in mind when we develop," continuing, "We'll do our best to come up with something that users will not criticize, but love..."
So maybe this back cover is a fake, i dunno...

This may sound really stupid but Im just a new PS3 owner (as of yesterday) so can anybody explain what exactly an install does for the game??

Also, how long approx would a 5GB install take?

        Thanks in advance! ;)

yakuza 3 will have a 5 gig install too.

Home integration? Maybe they'll finally put something worthwhile on there. There's only so much fun to be derived from repeated plays of Icebreaker, no matter how many hats and shirts you win.
              See you in hell.

I gotta admit, I'm sorta leaning towards this going on my 360. While both have a 40gig drive in my case I've still got about thirty left for my 360, but only about fifteen for the PS3. My only issue is I won't be able to get the DLC or updates as easily on the 360...

Rumor: Resident Evil 5 for PS3 to require 5gb Mandatory Install

A newspost over on Maxconsole features a picture of what appears to be taken from the back of an RE5 cover art. This may ofcourse just be a placeholder cover art from somewhere and not the final, but it might be worth pointing out that it mentions that nearly a whooping 5gb of free HDD space is required for the game. Filing this under R for rumor until we see some final back cover art or hear/see some official words from somewhere.

For mandatory ones, it's typically compensating for writing a loading algorithm specific for a DVD drive. Instead of writing one specifically for BD, they move the same code over to the PS3 and put data on the HDD to stream in order for loading times to be acceptable. In most games, it does give it a slight edge over the 360 version such as DMC4 where cutscenes loaded noticeably faster.

The installation time depends on the game, and the longest I've personally had was 20 minutes with DMC4.

You're going to hear complaints every single time a mandatory install comes up; it's a sport by now Capcom's ones personally irk me because there really aren't notable differences (well LP looked worse) between the console versions, and no version specific improvements are made. At least some third parties opt for better audio or even up to 7.1 with their PS3 versions.

While it's not clear, the back of the PAL LE looks to back this up.

200GB HDD here so not really worried either way.

5GB, ok then. I think it will atleast make the loadings in the game shorter. So all the talks about PS3 version without hard drive install was a BS.
