Default Thoughts on RE5, start to finish

This thread is for anyone who has beat the game to express their feelings regarding the story, the ending and the game in general. Discuss what you liked about game, what you didn't, etc. I myself won't be playing the game for another few days, although I know that many already are. Obviously, spoilers galore.

The trivia is stuff you already know. If you want to read it, it's available in the files section. The game isn't short if you played it the way it was meant to be played. As for Sheva, just set her to ATTACK mode and she'll alternate guns and actively seek out ammo. A lot of idiots don't realise this (including the douche that wrote the OXM review). As for the ending - it's exactly the same as every other RE game. Why are you disappointed more so this time?
    - where hell is my: GORE / Files or Reports / Puzzles
Heads exploding, Wesker impaling someone with his BARE HAND, lots of extremities being torn open by puscules/tentacles, not to mention blood splattering on the characters.

As for Files, there's heaps in Resident Evil 5 and there's even more outside of the game in the Library. Most of the story is told through the files too.

Hold B and press Up on the D-Pad (Circle if you are using the Playstation).

I only ever do it during battles or bosses, since I am too worried she'll use up all the ammo otherwise. Generally though, she's a pretty good fighter and she definitely can hold on her own.

You can do melee combos with the AI like that. Of course, it's easier on Veteran since enemies don't do as quickly.

I'll skip the positives since I like the game quite a bit, so I'll just mention the length and the lack of variety in music (it's also generic in comparison the previous games). All in all, I'm pleasantly surprised by the game.

i don't like setting the AI in attack mode because then it starts running off on its own and strays away and gets its ass kicked most of the time.
it's exactly the same as every other RE game. Why are you disappointed more so this time?
my beef with the ending was just that, it was way too plain. I was sort of expecting a longer ending explaining what the team did after a little bit, like showing them returning to their normal lives and what not.

a sense of closure if you will.

also, the game is short, "the correct method of playing it" varies from person to person. There's no denying that its considerably shorter then say, resident evil 4.

+ lesser ammo compared to RE4
    + better cinematic scenes, files
    + better story
    + more melee attack moves
    + graphics
    + returning monsters
+ the designs of the characters & monsters

    - inability to use+combine herb even when inventory is full (come on...RE4 can do it but not this game!)
    - too much rehashed ideas from RE4
    - lack of puzzle
    - The "Reaper" monster is crap
    - lack of new, original monsters

Playing on Veteran, my final playtime was greater than my first playtime of Resident Evil 4. Taking into account that I probably paused it, it still probably was.

I was reading off the timer in "Records" too, since I didn't spend any of my time with the disc in the machine and not playing. I was always continuously playing.

There were definitely some hard parts in this regard - and I know I made it harder for myself, probably to extend the playthrough. I went back to the horde of enemies before the "huge revelation" instead of just running away like I knew the game wanted me to.

I thought so too, but you do realise how to defeat the, right? It's actually pretty easy when you work it out - it can be done with a pistol. =D

    -Clunky robot like physics
    -tacked on partner
-lack of content to unlock, why no Jill outfit for sheva?
    - easy boss battles , the final boss was a joke.
    -horrible ending
    -shallow characters develpment.
    - 4 characters for merc mode is pathetic , it's like those clone characters in Dynasty Warriors 6 where basically 9 characters had all the same weapon and move set.
-irvin got killed off way fast , he should have had more time in the game , same goes for Excella.
    - Jill new hair style makes her sexy 1Up+++
guess that's sums it up , it's a good game but not the best in the series and for sure doesn't top RE4, i really want to see it on Wii with more content.

Lack of content? Check the extra content section for the tons of unlockable items and weapons among other things.

If you find the boss fights easy, play it on Veteran instead. The rest of the stuff you mentioned is subjective, but content is NOT the game's weak point.

It will have been a sweet deal if they have included a Seperate Way for Jill depicting how she got out of the facility, but the amounts of unlockables are there too.

We've filter mode, costumes, the mercenaries, the capsule toys, Professional mode, secret weapons, infinite ammo etc.

I wish they had some alternate scenarios too - I always like them in games. Even playing in the bird costume would be nice! =P

i think the game is awsome so far, in my opinion it makes re4 seem like a family comedy. Im finding it to make me panic allot more than re4, and i like the fact that there is less ammo and health. altough it is very much like re4, it feels less silly and comical than 4 did.

So, shorter or longer than RE4?

EDIT - Nevermind. From what people are saying, I guess the game is shorter than RE4.

I'm really gonna have to play through it a few times before I'm prepared to make any final verdicts...
The last few days have been an epic but blurry and hectic memory of RE5 for me.

I love it and it's brilliant in many ways! To put it simply, IT IS AWESOME!!!

But there were some things I didn't like so much (there's more than this but I'm really tired):
I kinda got used to the real time inventory but I still think I'd prefer to be able to pause instead. Especially when I started Mercenaries, because the items were all then in different positions to what I had got used to. It was annoying at times but it might just take more time for me to adjust.
I suffered some 'cheap' deaths with the quick button press moments (no big deal).
I think one 'trick' the game played a few too many times was the old; 'Enter a new area, see a bunch of platforms, ladders and stairs, with barrels, pots or crates to be smashed. Proceed forward, then cross a magic invisible line, which triggers a new wave of enemies. I know RE4 did the same thing a lot but it seemed a lot more obvious this time. I felt a bit a times, like I was on some sort of crazy tv show like the 'Running Man' or something, rather than feeling like being in an existing world.
I didn't like the Wesker boss fight at the end. I was happy for the game to end when he fell from the plane. I've never liked Wesker much and after that boss fight I just thought, "Thank F**k that C**t's Dead!!!"...

I'd like to play it more before deciding if it's better than RE4. Of course it's a lot better in some ways but I'm still not sure if it's better overall (I loved RE4).

I didn't mean to sound negative. It's an incredible game, filled with loads of awesome moments. I've got a feeling I'll be playing it for a long time and loving it even more.
I'm so happy that you can play as Sheva after you beat the game. I specifically remember Capcom telling us that you wouldn't be able to. They LIED! (but I'm glad they did).
    - inability to use+combine herb even when inventory is full
Yeah, that was annoying. But I liked how you could leave stuff 'at home' (the inventory you can access between chapters) then grab it again later.
As for Sheva, just set her to ATTACK mode and she'll alternate guns and actively seek out ammo.
To be honest, I kinda forgot about that option. I used it in the demo sometimes but not in the game. In hindsight, it would have definitely made things easier, had I remembered to switch it on when appropriate.
