Default Is anyone pissed they took out...

...the TYPEWRITERS?? I'm talking about RE5, obviously.

    I'm pissed.

The typewriters were something all Resident Evil games had. It's like taking out the herbs or the First Aid Sprays. Personally, I love the appeal of an old typewriter. I even have one at home and it always reminds me of Resident Evil. Aside from appeal, I would have liked it to be able to save whenever I choose to. I liked the typewriters a lot and I thought they were one of those elements in RE that would always be there. I am disappointed.

At first I thought I'd miss them, but the Organize and Buy screen in between chapter segments really grew on me.

I liked it the way it was in RE5, to tell you the truth.

Not pissed, really. Though there is a certain :[ about them being gone. (typewriter-shaped hole in the heart?)

I liked the typewriters. They were one of the memorable symbols of the series. I don't mind that they aren't there in RE5, as the saving system works well enough for me.

But why take them out? They've always been there. It doesn't make any sense. They kept the herbs and the sprays, as unrealistic as they are, but no typewriters. It should all be in there, it's all like a signature of RE.

I think Typewriters should have at least been in visually to some degree; like a typewriter icon or symbol when saving your game or something. Anyway, their exclusion doesn't piss me off, but it doesn't make me happy either. I'm mostly indifferent.

I think the checkpoint system made the gameplay a lot more fluid.

It didn't bother me. Typewriters are good for nostalgia, sure. But the checkpoints and such were a part of this game's mechanic.

Besides, a typewriter got a cameo in the last viral vid.

I like the system that is in RE 5. I mean if you put down all the things you miss about RE it would probably be a lot of things. The only thing that is really left is some of the characters and story.

For me Typewriters = Save Theme music
However there was a music track in the game that reminded me of a save theme, you can hear it when you finish a chapter. So, no I don't have a problem with the absence of typewriters, I think that the checkpoints worked well in the game.

The typewriters and the save room was one of the best moments, i still remember RE2, the dark room save and the main hall. And in re4 there was a checkpoint but they keep the typewriters and the music was awesome, now this moments are goo, the sound of re5 its weak compere to re4 and outer games of the series.

You get pissed over the most trivial things.

I never really noticed their disappearance at all. They had zero impact initially anyway.

You aren't going to see a random typewriter in a high-tech research facility or in the middle of an African street.

Yeah I missed them. Even in RE4, there was nothing better than walking into a room expecting the worst and hearing that soothing music. Pity they took that part of the game out, but not a huge deal.

I'd love to be able to save the game when I wanted to aswell.

It seems you care more about realism than artistic value. I don't care about realism that much. To me 'trivial' things like the typewriters are actually artistic elements that turn ordinary to interesting, and it's exactly little things like that that help create atmosphere and make a game charming and fascinating. Otherwise it's just stale. The real triviality lies in the use of too much realism in art.

P.S. The best musical piece I have ever heard has to be the save room theme from RE2. The R.P.D.'s front hall music was also so great, but nothing compares to the sounds of RE2's save theme. So simple, yet so good. Hm, same goes for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata.

Agreed, for me the best thing of re was the atmosphere, specially in the remake, the whole mansion was a one big art piece, and the police station of 2. I`m glad they not replace it with the realistic police station from 1.5. The bad thing is that all of the art and atmosphere disappear in 5, is so generic, and the game totally changed, RE was so different from other games and memorial, everything i liked is dead now, only left is pure action and visuals, things i don`t care about, because there is much more superior games in that sense.

The typewriters in the other games could have always been explained (to a degree, even though they were out of place in some situations), but having typewriters in a run down African village or a state of the art scientific facility would not work. It'd look stupid, and they are obviously starting to focus more on realism now rather than nostalgia from past entries in the series. It doesn't mean RE5 lacks art, look at the "Pray" soundtrack. It has a great OST.

I know they are focusing on realism, which is one of the main things killing the real Resident Evil. I was never into Resident Evil because it was a great realistic action game that looked perfect. There are better games than RE in terms of action and realism, and even graphics, and this is not RE's stage. But RE always had something no other game had and it's gone now.

I wouldn't mind a typewriter in the middle of the desert if you ask me. On the contrary, it would be a great quirk. It wouldn't look stupid if realism is not your main goal, and Resident Evil's main goal was never realism.

How is a typewriter an "artistic element?" It's a hunk of metal. There's no artistic value to the inclusion of a typewriter. If anything, it's a piece of nostalgia, plain & simple. That is all a typewriter adds to the atmosphere. The real atmosphere is conveyed by the music, lighting, and enemies.

I guess your idea of a "moving" atmosphere would be to hang out in a save room all day. Listen, why don't you go back and pop in RE3 and just stand in a save room and get your kicks from a typewriter?

The police station in RE2 was the worst thing of that title. Unicorn medallion, spade key, diamond key, etc. I could accept the architectual design of the Spencer Mansion for such goofy gameplay elements as specific keys for doors, but those elements are wickedly out of place in a Police Station.

I prefer "realism" anyday over corny key fetching that is not in the least bit charming. Those things ruin atmosphere.

Are you still talking about typewriters? Or Jill's brown hair? Just what is "IT" that is gone, specifically?
