You can't technically call it a DMC rip-off... considering the same director is behind it that one that created Devil May Cry to begin with. Seeing as Capcom caused his departure, they'll just have to deal with him making a competitive title in the same style.

Personally I think it looks better than DMC 2 and 4... maybe not so much 1 and 3 though.

edit : the trailer came off pretty awfully for me, there really doesn't seem to be anything unique about this game other then "i haz guns on feet" and the Sarah Palin likeness, and a bunch of zoomed in crotch shots..

The Palin thing is a bit of a coincidence too, seeing as her design and look was publicly released before Palin became a known name.

I think the variety of quick use combat moves shows a lot of difference from DMC.

The TGS trailer was pretty cool. I'm looking forward to the game.
I'm a fan of the DMC series but to be honest, I'm a bit sick of the feminine/emo leading 'dudes'. I'd much rather play as the sexy BAYONETTA!

I had reservations too, but after playing the demo I went to gamestop and put 10$ down on my copy.

I did play the demo as i said, boring, and i know it's made by the same people and didn't call it a ripoff, and i am gay, thanks for asking! I don't mind sexy ladies in games, heck Tomb Raider is one of my favourite series, what annoys me is when everyone suddenly thinks a game is super awesome because there's a massive pair of tits on the lead character. The GAMEPLAY is what matters, and this is just more of the same old button mashing nonsense with no originality or depth of anything, just well rounded pixels. If people were to say "Hey i like this game, i know its more of the same but thats what i like and the lead character is hot and i like that too", then fair enough, but every review i've read just keeps touting how original and unique the battle system is, it isn't. Adding the option to summon monsters (by her stripping naked of course) isn't original, ever play Final Fantasy? This game is driven purely by it's sex appeal, and the tagline "Nonstop CLIMAX Action!" belongs on a porno. Seriously, it's just a mind numbing button bashing action game, nothing original, nothing unique, nothing worthy of the praise and attention it's getting.

Devil May Cry games have all been praised for being successful and they follow the same formula that this game will. It might not appeal to you but it obviously did to some since DMC has a decent fanbase. Honestly, I would of maybe agreed with you and brushed off this game a few weeks ago. I saw a few screenshots and video clips and thought the same that it was just an attempt to use sex appeal to sell a game. HOWEVER, I found the demo to be quite fun as I have enjoyed all of the DMC games.

You clearly didn't pay attention to what you were playing, she doesn't summon monsters ala Final Fantasy. I could explain to you what was going on, but why bother. So the game isn't ground breaking or the first to do something. That doesn't mean it won't be good. We have reached the point where you pretty much can't do anything new in video games because it has all been done before.

All the reviews I read claim how over the top and ridiculous the action is while maintaining the fun factor. They mention the sex appeal but that was overshadowed by the ridiculous action sequences in the game. It IS a video game after all, bending reality is what they are about. Also her tits aren't that big, I've seen bigger and more ridiculous. Soul Calibur? Jill Valentine? The chick from Ninja Gaiden?

But people do appreciate the game for its gameplay, and not for Bayonetta stripping off (seriously, if you wanna see tits then just go on redtube - it's a lot quicker). Just because all you see (or want to see) is the same "button mashing" doesn't mean everyone else see that too. It's like saying "hey, people do not give Dragon Age: Origins great scores because it's an excellent RPG; no, after all it's the same boring Bardul's Gate bullshit, this time in full 3D, and people only really care for the game because you can have sex with female, men, homosexual elf, dog rabbit and transexual dwarfs!"... Really... No.

Bayonetta has lots of differences and improvements when it comes to combat system when compared to DMC series and that is what people love about this game. People who are in this kind of games (and not people who think this is a "button mashing nonsense" ) think of it as the evolution of action games. Go and read the impression thread on NeoGAF, or at least check the first post in the Bayonetta Demo Impression Thread of the Evolution of Action Games thread - there you can read more about how is this game's combat system a great improvement over what DMC did.

I can understand that you don't like the game, that's fine. But stop going around telling people that all this game is about is sex and that's why the game is prised, because it's not.
