Pulling a Dick Jones on me huh?

Edit: At least the repair service is going fast... The shipment company came today for the PS3 and take it to the warranty center, now it's just waiting from 15 to 20 days and I'll have a console back (papers said that I might get a refubrished console. WHAT THE FUCK. I paid for a NEW console! But whatever, I just want a working console).

    • This thread is for venting, right? I'm in a venting mood.

I'm just so damn tired of every Nintendo console/handheld being labeled as a "gimmick" these days. It's as if people don't even know the correct meaning of the word gimmick. Now that the Wii U has been shown, it's all I'm hearing on every game site. I heard it when the DS first came out, the Wii, the 3DS and now the Wii U.. Did the DS and Wii have their share of "gimmicky" games? Absolutely. -But there were games that took advantage of the so called "gimmicky" aspects of the consoles and made them into great experiences. Using the "gimmicky" dual screens on the DS to play Hotel Dusk like an interactive book, or using the "gimmicky" motion controls to play and control Resident Evil 4 like a dream. The 3DS's lineup is too small to make any judgments now, but every trailer in 3D I've seen looks amazing. As well as all the conceptual things planned for the Wii U..

It feels to me that there is a double standard when it comes to Nintendo. The PS Vita has not one, but three of the so called "gimmicks" already present in Nintendo devices (touch screen, gyroscope, and camera) and yet it seems to be treated as if it's innovation (which it should be). Nintendo tries to innovate and it get's immediately labeled as a gimmick; or Nintendo makes a leap into HD with the Wii U, and it's not good enough.

All I know is despite these systems being constantly treated negatively (DS and Wii at their time of launch; 3DS and Wii U now) They have sold like hotcakes and continue to sell, while the 3DS just hit a million in sales. Why do people have to be so damn pessimistic? Why are gamers so jaded and cynical nowadays? (Well, I know why RE fans are..)

(Another gripe of mine is the constant calling of Nintendo first party games as "rehashes" of their other games.. Are not all games in a series a "rehashing" of older games? [I.E Halo, Call of Duty, etc] What the hell? But I digress..)

      • Well, I think PS Vita is just more of a solid platform, it will garner a very consistent response from the general public, never too positive or negative. While Nintendo have to go up and down/side to side to get a response on their console that just reached HD, just like how they did with the Wii and in the end most people were disappointed with it...

        • So I took time off from my job because I was on vacation leave. I come back, and my boss is so pissed that I didn't call in to ask if one of the dogs needed to be cared for. I'm on vacation, that's not my job. And, she never left me with such a responsiblity. So apparently I might be suspended.

Next day on her Facebook page, she rants "My god, my dogs are fucking smarter than my stupid employees." Her friend comments, "Just fire all of them!"
She says that unfortunately she can't right now.

          Well damn, ranting on Facebook??

          • Use that against her and raise a formal grievance. If that's like anything where I work, those sort of comments can be used to show they have a personal grudge against you and that it's unprofessional, so they won't be able to do shit.

            • Figures. My coworker is currently doing that, so I suppose I should jump the bandwagon. Thanks Alexia. I would quit my job, but I don't think I will be able to collect the benefits of unemployment :/

              • Competition between companies is great because in the long run we get better products
No we don't. We actually get crappier products because developers and publishers have discovered the wonders of PR.

                • If I were you, I would screenshot those Facebook comments, and when they bring it up, use that as evidence of victimization and say that proves she wants you gone before anything has even happened.

                  • She could be talking about anyone, those comments wouldn't hold up at all.

                    • Of course they would, they're obviously about her. It isn't like a court, anything that could be construed as victimization or bias in the workplace won't stand when it comes to something like that (suspension/sacking). She just needs to make a note of these comments plus anything that she could have said in the past. I've seen people in disciplinaries for much lesser comments on Facebook. We're always told to never mention work on FB whatsoever. Very difficult to be fired if you're in a union and your manager is making unprofessional, provocative remarks.

                      • Obviously? Where is anyone named? It's their word against their bosses, in nine out of ten cases there's only one way that's going to go.

                        Comment

                        • Because the comments were in reference to something that happened that day, and she could say she felt they were aimed at her, which they obviously are. These are things I see happening daily in the workplace. ANYTHING which could be viewed as bullying will help her out. If I argued with a BG engineer and then Facebooked "some BG engineers are useless twats", I'd get a bollocking tomorrow, name or no name.

                          • The employee would need to provide sufficient evidence that the comment is about them though!

                            • But they wouldn't. She just needs to accuse her manager of bullying and use that to back her argument up (and try and find other examples) and they can't do shit. You have to know how to play the game. I once knew a guy who sat opposite a high level manager in the office. He used to whisper "prostitute, whore, bitch" but only so she could see and no one else. When they had a meeting about it, he just called her more names. When she reported him, he just kept saying she was bullying him because she didn't like him and was trying to get him in the shit. He got away with it and was eventually sacked for something completely unrelated, porn on his PC or something. Doesn't work like a court, needing hard evidence.

                              • So you're saying without hard evidence there's not much you can do.

Which is exactly what i'm saying. A Facebook status with no names certainly isn't hard evidence.
