  • Resident Evil 5 Announced! *Update*

As you all no doubt know Capcom has officially unveiled Resident Evil 5.

It appears to take place in a run down city in a desert type location which seems a bit too familiar to the secluded village of Resident Evil 4. The main character is hinted to be Chris however he bears a strong resemblance to Bruce from Dead Aim. Looking closer reveals he looks a lot like Chris from the Remake on Gamecube.

The shots scanned from a Famitsu article also show the shadows of rather zombie like enemies, so perhaps we are finally getting our good old enemies back albeit smarter according to the 1up translations of the scans.

Jun Takeuchi who will be directing this game says that this game will not be a side story and that this will mark a major turning point in the series, Hard to beleive after what Resident Evil 4 has done. He also says that since most of the team that worked on the original Resident Evil are working on this, so we should expect a mix of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 1.

Internet forums are now a buzz concerning which platforms the game will appear, stunning many it will also appear on Microsoft's Xbox 360. It is unclear at this time if we will be seeing a simultanius launch however a release at the 360's launch is very unlikely.

The scans, provided by an unnamed souce are presented below:

If anyone knows what issue the scans are from, Please let me know on the forums!

It looks like more info is flowing now, thanks to a new article from IGN.

The article reveals a little more information about the game such as:

Images shared by the magazine were taken from a two minute high definition video clip in which the game's main character finds himself in the alleys of a desert city, being chased by a mysterious group of enemies. In describing the setting and content of the game, Takeuchi recalls a scene from the film Black Hawk Down, when a US chopper crashes to the ground and is swarmed by natives. The theme of getting out of a tight corner is a staple of the original Resident Evil, and is something that the development staff wants to work on with RE5.
Could the game could take place in Somalia or some other African nation?

The primary enemy is a new element to the game and it's currently a closely guarded secret.
So it appears that it could either be a Zombie/Ganado hybrid or infact zombies themselves (unlikely, given the new gameplay)

Takeuchi suggesting that when it's particularly hot, you'll want to cool down in a cave.
Perhaps Capcom are adopting a similar Survival concept as Konami did with MGS3? Or could this be related to the story, with Chris perhaps being infected?

a Tokyo Game Show showing for Resident Evil 5 is not out of the question.
Good news, We wont have to wait too long for more information September 16-18th the Tokyo Game Show will be opening however we expect more information to leak before that time.

The updates just keep coming. This time its an article from Gamespot.

In it they clarify some of the earlier reports:

If the main character is indeed Chris, the developers might be preparing to create some kind of a conclusion to the series' long storyline.
Well this isnt something we like to see is it? It could be possible that Capcom are looking to break all ties with previous games and go in this new direction fully for Resident Evil 6 or whatever follows. One things for sure, They have a LOT of stuff to cram into RE5 if this is indeed true. Rebecca, Billy, Barry, Jill...They have a lot of things to tie up.

In terms of the mysterious enemies, Takeuchi commented that they are displayed in shadows because they will feature new elements that can't be disclosed yet. However, he hinted that the talking enemies in Resident Evil 4 were something he hopes to expand on in RE5.
Looks like were stuck with Ganado's again for sure. Though they may have some more human like mannerisms according to the article.

Capcom may exhibit a one- to two-minute high-definition trailer of Resident Evil 5 at the Tokyo Game Show, which is where the images of the game in Famitsu were taken from.
Boy it sure would be great to see the game in motion!
