    Default Portal 2

    http://store.steampowered.com/news/3559/

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike and Half-Life) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Portal 2 for shipment this coming holiday season.

Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Portal, which won 70 industry achievement awards.

Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.

You're an absolute fucking moron undeserving of your hands if you're not excited by Portal 2. Would obviously prefer HL2EP3...but as runners-up prizes go, this is pretty damn outstanding.

From looking at the (amazing) Game Informer covers, looks like the game might take us outside as well!

I'm such an unashamed Valve fanboy. This can't fail. It's been amazing this weekend following the Portal updates as well.

Nice! They teased this by updating Portal for the PC and adding little morse coded messages through the game and also changing the ending slightly.

According to the Game Informer issue:

The original development team was 8 people, now it's 28 people. They've been working on Portal 2 for 2 years.
The game will be significantly longer, though they haven't said how much.

Portal 2 takes place hundreds of years after the events of Portal 1.
    Chell & Glados return.
Aperture science's laboratories condition isn't that great.
New gameplay heavily focused on combining physics with portals.

Online co-op will be more difficult than the main game. It will require coordination between the actions of the 2 players.
The co-op protagonists will be 2 robots, with personality cores, and a portal gun & turret for hands.

More songs are to be featured in the game in a surpising way that Valve won't reveal because they don't want to ruin the surprise.
    More humor as well.

Heres the new ending for those who don't have Portal on the PC (like me)

    Updated Ending

I dunno if the art for GameInformer is correct, but if it is i kinda like the idea of going between Aperture Labs and outdoors

Also for those without Portal on PC, heres the hidden images they added in (i've put these in a spoiler tag because of the size)

Other than this being an excellent addition to 2010 for my puzzell/platforming fix. Anything from Valve in games is one step closer to Episode 3. They already got my wallet out for them already,

    Coming out this Holiday Season!

    *Holiday Season comes*

We at Valve are very sorry to say this game has been delayed by (a couple) of months. We expect to release it Q1 of next year.

    *Q1 of next year comes*

    We at Valve are sorry...

I find it impossible that this game has only been in development for TWO YEARS and now they want to release it in the coming Christmas season.

I'll just take my bets now so I won't be disappointed when that time comes.

Maybe Valve have changed...they delivered L4D2 when they said they would after all.

You have a good point there.

Maybe they have. I'm still fully trusting them on this date though.

I am sure Valve will be pretty solid on releasing a title each year, having their IPs to be a big hit and success in the console market, while polishing and further developing their tltles. We have seen them buying the Turtle and the DOTA guys so I am sure they have their teams internally targetting for a title each year (or having an awesome package like they did with the orange box) so there shouldn't be much to complain. Valve might take their time with certain titles, but it's worth it in the long run.

This, plus Chet recently said about L4D2:

"We don't really talk about that, but there were three different times when we could have pulled the plug on Left 4 Dead 2, and we said, 'No.' That was iteration hitting all the points right. Every time we hit a mark, we were better off than we thought we would be.”

"I think the 'Valve Time' thing is a leftover from the Half-Life world, because I've been very careful with my dates and times in Left 4 Dead."

I think from L4D2 and on they'll try their best to stay true to the release dates they announce.

OMG I can't believe it. Valve is porting Steam to the Macintosh and this game is coming out for it. Did I die... and go to heaven?

Maybe this will help developers release other source engine games for the Mac now that Valve finally decided to write a version for Mac OS X (after 5+ years)

Still wow. I played the first one at my friends house. It was very cool and this one will probably be great to! ^^

I hate puzzle games, Portal leaves me cold. But I appreciate its impact in the videogame world, even though I believe its kind of an additional flavour to the Half Life series.

    And Half Life is fantastic.

The only thing which interests me about Portal is its ties to Ep3.
