SYDNEY--Capcom has switched partners down under. The company, best known for its Resident Evil and Street Fighter games, has cut its ties with long-term distributor THQ and will now work with Activision to distribute its games to the Australian and New Zealand markets.

The first game to be released under the new partnership will be Lost Planet: Extreme Condition for the Xbox 360. The game will be released in Australia on the same day as its US release--January 12, 2007.

Activision has also set dates for some highly anticipated Capcom titles that have so far failed to show up in Australia despite already being available in the US. Top of the list are action titles Okami and God Hand, which will be released in Australia on February 14 and 21, respectively.

In a statement, Capcom USA president Hiroshi Tobisawa said the deal with Activision would prove "invaluable" for Capcom's 2007 release plans. “This region is extremely important to Capcom and with Activision we have found a partner with unparalleled knowledge and expertise in the Australian and New Zealand markets."
