  • S.D. Perry interview

For those of you who enjoyed the S.D. Perry RE novels, here's a recent interview with her that you might find interesting. In the interview she talks about how she got the job writing the novels, difficulty communicating with Capcom, why she stopped writing the novels, her unused ideas, etc.

    Enjoy.

Interesting; thanks for the interview! I enjoyed most of the books, even though a lot of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. I also thought Caliban Cove was better than Underworld, but not by much; I liked her original stories the least, anyway.

The only book I wasn't a fan of was the CV book (since that's my favorite game storywise); she kinda butchered it. It wasn't 100% her fault, I guess, since she based it on CV and not CVX.

It's funny that she hasn't played the more recent games. God, could you imagine a RE4 novel?!

The strange little man on the balcony spoke again. "I have been honored with the prestigious power from the great Lord Saddler. I've been expecting you my brethrens."

Leon swiftly responded. "No thanks, bro."

    God, kill me now...
    Mass production? Ridiculous!

Reading her novels is like reading some tosh you find at Fanfiction.net.
        See you in hell.

I wouldn't go that far. They're far from perfect (only I could do that, lesser beings) but for simple, throw away novels they're not bad. I'd say they were in the top 10% of the stuff you find at FanFiction.net

Yes, I quite agree with Spencer: Her novels do seem like something you would find on a fan fiction website, but then again, you do have to realize that this isn't going to be the pinnacle of writing. I would say a good portion of science fiction books are really not something that you will find as "book club" material.

I actually own most of the Perry novels, but it was more because I had a gift certificate to a bookstore I never go to (Borders...Ironically, I started working for a Borders about four years later), and had to spend around $50. I read a portion of the CODE: Veronica novel, and realized that the books really aren't that good.

I've held onto them though...May sell at some point. For the most part they look brand new. No cracked spines or anything.

RE3 was good, I liked the way she described Nicholai's thinking. RE1 wasn't bad purely because it was a book about my favourite game. End of CV book I remember being quite enjoyable (and not just cause it was the end ). Underworld/Caliban cove suck ass literally, its like a porn mag when I open those books.

The pages in your book are stuck together?

I didn't mind the books really, it game me something to do to pass the time. Though the weird part in CV were Wesker was talking to Chris about how he wants to fuck Claire was kinda weird and unexpected.

I got into Caliban Cove but couldn't really get into Underworld. Besides those i think the only other i've read is the RE1 novel which i enjoyed.

Definitely caught me off guard, too, although I think he was saying it just to piss Chris off as opposed to actually wanting to bang Claire. We all know Wesker only cares about banging viruses and the odd parasite.

Read RE1 and 2 and Caliban Cove and Underworld, the last two being some of the weirdest things I ever read that involved RE. I started reading the RE3 novel but could stand anymore of that Trent guy being involved in every single thing that happened.

Capcom confirmed Trent is canon... he's just so elusive we haven't seen him yet in-game. What could he be planning next I wonder?

Yeah, that was one of the dumbest things I'd ever read. I picked up that book out of curiosity and skimmed to that part by chance, let out a sigh, put the book down and walked away feeling dumber for looking at the book in the first place.

                              Thanks, REmaster! Interesting, for sure.

                              First I heard of this; I only own/read 1, 2 and 3, with 3 being my favorite.

The entire concept of Code Veronica is bizarre - whether it be Alfred's cross-dressing, role-playing [psycho] obsession with Alexia, or the fact they injected their own father with a mutagenic virus - everything about this game is nothing short of crazy-sick. And I love it. So...

I'm sure nothing more or less could be expected from a paperback novel, though, I gotta say - WTF @ Wesker+Claire reference.
                              I'm a blackstar.
