Yeah, because it would cost SOOOO MUCH MONEY!!!!...just porting an old game (that has been in every format of the last Console GEN) with random voice actors like they did for SH3.

They're probably saving it for the craptastic HD Collection: Volume 2 with SH: Origins & SH: Shattered Memories just to cash-in on the old games...or be even lazier and just release the PS2 versions on PSN which would take forever to be approved by Sony to be in an eventual PSN Store update in a very far future.

Dracarys is right though--it does cost money. I remember someone mentioned Capcom apparently spent over 1 million on porting RE4 HD(and that's ignoring the shroddy job they did). Even if they didn't bother cleaning/updating the graphics, you still have to spend the time rewriting the code so that it can work on the ps3. I'm not really trying to defend Konami. I think they showed what a bunch of cheap tits they are with the whole voice acting fiasco, but it is a business at the end of the day.

It does cost money to make the game work in HD, actually.

And the original is in the PSOne Classics section of the store. It's upscaled when you play it, so technically it's already in HD.

I think you guys forget that 1 million dollars is chump change for a big company such as Konami and Capcom...proportionally, they would get more profit on a re-release than a new IP because of all the nostalgic fans who would buy it blindly without a second thought or from newcomers that get influenced by either said fans or by it's former history of fame.

As well as it's pretty obvious that most of the money goes to paying royalties/licenses and not to the actual game production of the re-release which is mostly 0 work.


Re-releases are just a way for them to fund their future projects, mostly based on the same series, and see the demand and interest for such series as reference for future plans/projects of said franchise.

Of course it does. Unless it's digital download, you have to pay for production and distribution of discs. With SH1 on the store, it costs them money to host it on the Store. Either that or Sony gets a cut of the profits, or something like that.

I don't think it's a simple production & distribution or a bandwidth cost...there might be more than just that such as long term contracts with VAs, commissions, advertisements, patents/royalties, etc.

....but all in all, at the end of day as I've mentioned before, this is just chump change for them...especially with how much money they're going to make from these cash-ins.

Barring scaled ps1 game = HD, which is not even close (PS1 titles output at a max of 480 which is sub HD and downloads work exactly the same as if you put the disc in the ps3) Canas is correct.

The costs for HD won't be that small and the better and bigger the project the more the costs go up. While indeed the factor they're not making the game means its not as much as a new game, seeing as most of these sets have multiple game and require a lot of testing means they still cost. They then also have the same manufacturing, distribution and marketing costs as any normal release.

I'm just now taking notice of the achievements/trophies for this game. One of them is getting the Green Hyper Spray in SH2, which requires a 10-Star Ranking. Now, I have played SH2 to death. I've gotten all the endings, beaten the game in less than three hours with no more than 2 saves, played to completion in every difficulty, unlocked everything aside from the aforementioned spray, but have never tried for a 10-Star Ranking.

So. Is it as terribly painful as everyone seems to make it out to be? I'm guessing the less than 500 points of damage combined with the save limit is the real killer. Any advice from those who have done this before? ..

Not sure if you still need help but having done it again in the HD set I can give you some pointers, just finished it again last night with 10 stars.

First obviously you need to have gotten all the other endings (including Maria's "Born from a Wish" one) on the same save file except possibly for Dog, which is the one you want to get on this run. If you already got it doesn't obviously matter. But it shaves a good chunk off the end of the game and limits the damage chances from the last two boss fights so this is good for time and damage.

You need all 8 bonus items during the run - blue stone, chainsaw, the 4 rebirth items, hyper spray, and dog key. Plus 150 or more regular items.

Turn on the inverse run button so you always just run and 3x ammo if it's not already on.

Game needs to be on hard/hard difficulties (or the extra hard riddle one). Best to swat up on all the answers and check which answers are random set. You'll know if you're on Extra from the safe wallet at the second apartments. If it includes letters then you're on extra hard riddle.

Time is not generally too much of an issue. Even having to spend up to 1 hour to grind kills by shooting, you should finish in under 2 and half.

The damage is reasonably okay - somewhat of an issue but not the hardest aspect - more on that later. Any damage up until the hospital from the start until when PH hits you off the roof, don't heal. It doesn't count towards your damage total because the PH hit cancels it unless you heal.

I'll deal with the game now section by section.

Make your way from the start and avoid killing anything (except the one enemy you need to with the plank) until you have the handgun in the apartments. For the lying figures shoot them from a distance but continue as you walk towards them and then as soon as they're down kick them on the ground. Too much risk from either them spitting on you or crawling at speed on the ground and hitting you otherwise if your too close and then not quick enough. I had to restart my attempt once because I got too much damage from this at the start.

Pyramid Head fight 1 - handgun and distance, no damage. no problem.

On the streets just grab the items you come across. use lists or maps if you don't know where they mostly are by now. make sure you grab the pipe, it'll help with the eddie fight.

Hospital is a pain, keep your distance from nurses and don't go into any rooms you don't need to. be ready to shoot often as soon as you come out of doors (or if playing on PS3 version even before it loads) as sometimes they're right there in front of you. again, knock em down and stomp on them for melee kills.

The 3 hanging flesh lip guys are best dispatched by running around with the handgun and just keeping as much distance as you can. if you're good you should get away with no damage at all.

use your first save in the hospital, before the maria hallway bit before leaving the hospital. you need to shoot PH with the handgun to slow him, risk of killing maria if you miss or her getting killed by PH in only 2-3 hits is why you should save. a whole 10 bullet clip should be used, this needs to be done twice overall - once when he first appears and the second time when you can shoot him through the mesh wall.

the time on that first save should be just around 60-70 minutes.

on the streets, pick up all the items you can and kill everything with the guns. should get your 75 kills just in making your way from the hospital to the historical society. this will take up to an hour to grind out.

prison, go back to melee kills on the figures as you go through.

use a map for the labryinth if you're not 100% sure on the path. again, melee kill the figures. you should be past 75 by the end of this section if not well before.

abstract daddy is a pain. he's very fast on hard, but run corner to corner and back again, shooting the shotgun at each stop. if you get away without being grabbed amazing, if not make sure you mash the buttons and try to break free with as little damage as possible. keep an eye on your health. I got grabbed once, my best run ever on hard.

for the second save you have a choice of before eddie or after eddie. the save is important but you need to decide to do it before at the catacomb graves or after on the dock. i saved before eddie but it depends on how well you think you can do.

that save should be around 130-140 minutes for a good finish time. the maximum you'd want to see on the save file is 160, because it will take up to 20 minutes from the graves to finish.

for eddie, the trick on the first part is to equip the pipe before using the door. when the cutscene runs ready your hitting attack (PS3 is hold R2+X not sure about 360) and when it's over you'll just hit him as he runs into you again and again without a worry. 13 hits and he's gone.

second part is harder. most people hide behind the meat to avoid getting shot and use the giant knife to hit him 4-5 times and just deal with the small damage from eddie punching you. personally i use a glitch method by getting as close to the meat as possible and using the shotgun again and again (11 shots) while eddie uses his left hook to punch the meat. done correctly the latter will save you from getting hit all but once. this way only works 80% of the time and if it doesn't I revert to the knife. I can explain this more in detail if need be but basically you will get damage here most likely in some form.

the hardest part of the 10 star run is without a doubt the boat section. getting it turned directly into the light (or as close in a line to it as possible) and there in less than 1min20 on hard where you have to control the boat by spinning the sticks away from each other at speed takes practice.

Turning right needs about 4 seconds of spinning both sticks counterclockwise, then hard core spinning of both sticks with left going counterclockwise and right going clockwise to have james row the boat. not fun. you need to do it so James never moves his head left or right. There is time to correct if you're not exactly pointed at the light or make a slight slip up but it's quite tight.

If playing HD version you haven't gotten the achievement/trophy already from earlier plays then this is easier because when you do it that will ping when you do it under 1'20. If you don't or are playing PS2/Xbox you'll need a stop watch, and the count starts from when the cutscene is over (or you skip it). To show you how stupidly close I got the first attempt...



The last part of the game is a cake walk compared. if you know the hotel part well it should take you less than 10-15 mins total to get to the end. only risk is the hallway leading to the 212 room where there is two of the smaller daddies walking back and forth, and that's just because of the small space. You must remember after using the video in the VHS and going out that you need to go downstairs and get the last item from the +8, the crimson ceremony book, before going back up and using the Dog Key on the door for the ending.

This being reasonably easy is good in case you have to replay the whole thing again like I did above. In any case, you'll need to probably play the boat bit over a number of times. If you saved before eddie then you'll have to do that over and over again which kinda sucks.

This is my end result. I got slammed hard by eddie on that run which caused the jump in damage over above.

I had Silent Hill HD Collection for my birthday of the mrs. I will be honest with you its the first time I have ever played Silent Hill apart from the original. I wasnt that into gaming around the time of their release and never really cared to go back and play them after but since they were on HD and had trophies I figured why not. So I started SH2 first obviously, nice introduction liked the atompshere felt really creepy especially with the fog. So you start running to get to town?? I think thats where he wanted to go although in the intro he said something about an island on the lake so I was kind of looking for that. After ALOT of running through the fog with annoying camera angels the tension started to wear thin and boredom started to kick in. Finally I found the first enemy and whooped his ass with ease. Then more running....running.....runninng....found some enemys thought I killed it and it starts slithering around on the floor shoots past me, actually pretty creepy again.....running....kill enemies.....running....runnning.....fog.....camera angels....bored. I have to be honest so far I am not impressed. How anyone can say these are better than old school RE is beyond me. Sure they can be creepy but goddamn it is it repetitive and also I have no idea where the fuck I have to go, no clues, dodgy camera angels, dodgy controls, enemies everywhere and the fog just about tops it off I cant see shit even if I knew where I was going.

Old survival horror games are more inclined to let you explore. If you played the original Silent Hill you know the town itself leaves behind clues in the streets that cue you in on where to go next, but with all the fog and monsters one dreads exploring the streets too much.

The opening to SH2 is more methodical and paced slow to build up tension. You're not just fighting monsters right off the bat, and they are set up to appear at times that reflect aspects of the character and segments of his journey. Back in 2001 you didn't know what to expect and for a lot of fans it was SH2 that was there starting point.

Resident Evil is not psychological horror. The earlier biohazard games worked for being the kind of monster mash up you'd see in creature features. Zombies, snakes, sharks, mutant plants, evil corporations, and a giant monster tyrant. Nothing psychological worked into the game play, characters or plot. The set up is escape from monsters. And they did work tension and horror into that, but Silent Hill performs it differently.

That said, the game does pick up once you arrive at key locations but if running and exploration is not your thing then you will not get into this game.

Maybe thats why I expected clues and whatever to be in the streets because I did finish the original. I agree about the start it had good build up and tension but in my opinion it dragged on for just a little bit to long. I enjoyed the noises as you are running through the woods that really put me on edge because I was thinking I have no idea how you fight and I have absoultley no weapons if something pops out here I am royally fucked.

I understand that RE is a different breed of game but I do think its much better wether it be because of the style or whatever I just think its better. My problem isnt really the pacing of the game its the fact that I have no idea where to go and what I am supposed to be doing. Maybe thats how Silent Hill is supposed to be just one big confused cluster fuck. I will admit that I can be a tad bit picky with my exploration. In Fallout I had no problem but in Skyrim and Oblivion I had no interest in exploring. I have no idea why and whats the difference so I cant tell you that. So far in Silent Hill I guess I am just anticipating to much and want to see more because all I have seen so far is fog brick walls and one type of enemy. I am no giving up on this game by no means because it was a gift and I am expected to play it but I am in no rush to get through it....so far.
