  • Kodomo no Jikan anime/manga, what is your opinion?

For you who don't know what it is about:

Kodomo no Jikan is both an anime and a manga which follows 9 year old Kokonoe Rin as she's hitting on her 23 year old teacher. She's obviously fallen in love with him, but he's concerned how to tackle her feelings without hurting her emotionally.

On top of this, she has a lesbian friend named Kuro-chan who tries to make Kokonoe all hers. And then there's a third girl, Mimi-chan, who develops early.

This series has been banned in the US because of the intimate relationship between a 9 year old and a 23 year old. However...

Having watched the whole anime series, I can tell you this is one of the finest animes out there. First off, children DO have sexual fantasies and desires. That's a fact. Another fact is that you're not allowed to talk about it. It exists, but you can't talk about it.

I remember from my own childhood, the slightest sign of any sexual activity and my parents were like "DON'T DO THAT!! YOU'RE A KID!!"

Yeah, I was a kid. And kids have sexual fantasies, even sexual desires.

What this anime does is simply making a story out of that. There's no rape or any horror like that, just mischievious kids who explores their sexuality.

So why do some people think this series is a "pedophile dream"? Is it because of the stigma related to kids' sexuality and dirty old men?

I would really like to hear your opinion about this.

I've seen bits of the series. I think, anyway. I really hope there aren't more than one with this premise, anyway.

This isn't a hentai or anything of the sort, but it can make people uncomfortable. Simply because if the 23 year old had different moral standards the 9 year old girl would have been raped. And it certainly would have been rape. Kids may have sexual feelings, but they not have a full understanding of what they're thinking or feeling. A responsible parent will talk to the kid about what's going on to avoid stuff like this, but a lot of parents can't bring themselves to do so.

As it is, the anime is a very silly one. I seem to recall the girls are aware enough of the situation to use it to blackmail the teacher, threatening to remove there panties and yell for other adults unless he does as told and the like. It wasn't one I enjoyed, as it didn't appeal to my sense of humour, but it's not the worst thing ever.

I see, but you seem to understand that this anime isn't "bad". If you know what I mean.

Most anime isn't. I've seen ones that cross the good taste fresh hold and go straight into disturbing, but usually it's the manga's (such as the infamous Mai-chan's Daily Life) that really freak me out. I guess they have to relatively sure an anime will sell before making it...

You just answered your own question I think.

I'd be all "Yeah, don't do that love because you're only nine. Here's some ice cream, let's go find your parents."
            See you in hell.

In all honesty I think i would feel to awkward watching that series.... ive always felt that anime could be a bit strange when it came to sex or sexuality.. honestly I watched part of an anime where a bunch of guys get locked in a really hot room, go delirious and start having sex with each other. Dont get me wrong I like anime its just that when they are overly sexualised (e.g. high school of the dead) they just annoy me, theres nothing sexy about a cartoon after all.

Well, I think it's just a difference in culture. I believe cartoons, when done right, can be very sexy and suggestive. But in the west we prefer violence to sexual content for some reason. It's cool to like violence and glorifications of cool murders while you're a "lonely sucker" if you like artificial sex. I think that's pretty funny.

Kodomo no Jikan is not sexy though, it's cute. Funny thing is that when some people see it, they immediately starts to think about sex... doesn't that show what's wrong with them rather than with the manga?

Not really. As I recall it's not exactly subtle. As I said, I only saw bits while I was around a friends house, but I distinctly recall the girls taking off there panties and threatening to cry rape or molestation if teacher didn't do as told. While nothing sexual ever happened, it was brought up.

The girl you're talking about, Rin, is in love with her teahcer and she just wants as much attention from him as possible. When he tries to ignore her, she threatens him by taking of her panties and call him a molester.

The series is about the forbidden love from a child who has recently discovered her sexuality, towards her teacher. It's very well done, because children as young as five or six years old starts wondering what sex is. But as soon as they ask their parents, the parents tell them to be quit and that it's wrong to think about such things in that age.

That's why Kodomo no Jikan is so taboo.

Well, my six year old has yet to express such opinions. But yeah. That would be why people get ideas about child sex from it, and that makes a lot of people (myself included) uncomfortable. Because pedophiles deserve to have there sexual orgams dug out, limbs severed from there body, there eyes plucked from there head, there ear drums punctured, there tongue removed, and there skin sanded to scar tissue and then allowed to live the next thirty or forty years in that state because a quick death, no matter how painful, isn't enough to compare the mental harm they cause.

                      ...I really don't like pedophiles.

I never thought about sex when I was 6. Around that time actually, I went crying to my mum and dad thinking I was going to die after having a bath and discovering there was a hole there. I thought I'd sat on some glass. I never thought about that till I was at least 10/11.

Some children find out about being sexual unusually early...but it is unusually early, and often caused by some kind of sexual abuse. Most don't until they start to enter puberty.

So then you think the same punishment should be dealt to murders, right?

That may or may not be true. I've worked as a caretaker for childs (so I'm used to work with childs) and several of those kids were curious of what sex was and what penises and such was for. They wanted to know, but I couldn't tell them because I would have been fired on the spot if I did.

I myself got sexually interested in women when I was six years old. There was a girl in her early teens who, as I though back then, had a big butt. We had gymnastics together so her butt was pretty "noticable" in her tight clothes. That's my earliest memory.

Some girls develop breasts already at the age of 10. Some don't do it until they're 15 or even older. Kodomo no Jikan also brings this up - the character Mimi develops very early and as a result, she is picked by hte boys in school because she's the only girl in her clas with breasts. It makes her very insecure and the fact that her parents are always working and never spends time with her doesn't make things any better.

Kodomo no Jikan is actually a beautiful series and it has moved me to tears, and then I'm a guy who didn't even cry when my grandparents died. It just brings up a taboo subject that is kids' sexuality. For that, it was banned in the US and much of the manga is considered child porn here in Sweden because it shows naked girls in sexual situations.

So yes, I'm a criminal for having this manga, but I don't care because it's such a fucking stupid law anyway.
