However, Best Buy, Gamestop, and one other place that I can't remember each have a preorder bonus for a different, extra Mercs stage.

I spy spiders. Anyone have any indication what "C" stands for?
PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
Their struggle for existence is over for the time being. But a sin violating sanctuary isn't forgiven. This is not just an end. This is the end of a beginning.
Speaking of Mercs, I think it would be cool to include the R.P.D. as a stage. Probably not going to happen but it would be pretty cool. Even the Umbrella labs would be nice.
I don't see that happening, but Leon has some great stages, the Subway pre order map looks great.
Liked the hands-on, it was short and to the point, thanks.
Also, it's interesting that June 29th 2013 is when Piers finds Chris in the bar & June 29th 2013 is when Leon's Tall Oaks incident begins (of course timezones change time slightly). So the comparison Capcom showed here is great. While the outbreaks start and the world is about to be thrown into chaos, the best of the saviors is drinking his sarrows down in a bar in Eastern Europe. But Piers finds him just in time and the next day they head to China, right after the C-Virus outbreak takes place there. The desperation and pacing of the story at this point is shown in an interesting way.
Loving the sound of Chris' scenario the more I hear it, as with the interaction between Chris and Piers. Piers is easily becoming the 2nd favorite male character, after Chris.
Something I found interesting is that Leon and Jakes demo will be at the next event, as mentioned on the Capcom interview live stream, perhaps they want to do a lot of work on Chris's?
I believe in one of the interviews they said that they don't want to show too much of Chris, gameplay or story, but rather keep it a surprise. Just like the overall horror in the game. That's why his gameplay was a repeat 3 times I believe, compared to Leon who got two different demos. I like the idea, Chris' scenario is my most favorite so far, so the less they are showing the better =)
As great as that chain of events is, I would have greatly preferred that it went down like this...
Chris and his team are dispatched to that town in China the day BEFORE the C-Virus outbreak to investigate claims of possible bioterrorism. On the flight there, Chris is reserved sitting by himself in the plane with flashbacks streaming through his head. When they land, Chris informs his team to unload and he'll be back in a bit... hours pass and he never returns.
Cut to a seedy saki house deep in the heart of the city's shanty town district sometime after midnight. Chris sits drunk off his ass trying to get the images of his dead comrades out of his head when screams erupt from outside. The outbreak starts right outside the saki house and he's forced to deal with the situation, inebriated beyond belief. By the time he gets back to the team (who is already dealing with J'avo and such), Piers demands to know where he's been... but smells the liquor and tells Chris to get himself together get out of their way...
Start Demo.
That and Jake and Leon's scenarios should have more new stuff that's not similar to RE5 in them, so they'll want that stuff out there more than the stuff that's similar to RE5.
I'm liking Chris's scenario so far, I do think the level they had shown might not have been the best part to show though, a demo of Chris and his team zipping down from the chopper and those citizens running from the danger in my opinion would have had a bigger impact for me. Chris will have interesting levels but the one they showed was a little lacking for me.
This probably will ruffle a few feathers, but I noticed while watching the GameTrailers footage again that the characters do have regenerating health. However, it seems to operate similarly to Resistance: Fall of Man's health system.
The health bar is divided into individual segments. If, say, half of one segment is depleted, it will restore on its own after a brief period of time. It's only when a full segment is empty that you will need to use a healing item.
Ironically, this was one of the things I suggested Capcom implement in the next game when I did my write up on potential gameplay mechanics and story threads over on Capcom-Unity a few years back.

Ahhh I would never have noticed that, well I'm not going to complain about that, we still gotta keep those segments filled, okay this might be a silly question guys but did I see a Red Herb in one of the demos? or was that just a Green Herb?
That sounds ok, except for the fact Chris has never messed up on his own on his missions. He's not the type to get distracted by irrelevant things, love, or the loss/death of someone while on the mission (in this case, would never drink while on duty). Notice how he starts drinking after the Serbian outbreak is taken care of, when he feels there's no direct danger yet. So in reality, this would not have fit his character at all, as opposed to people saying him drinking in general while off-duty doesn't fit.
However, with your idea, the game would have started with a drunk Chris, meaning gameplay would have been with him having a hard time aiming his gun, figuring out the environments and the enemies, and a lot of stumbling around. That would have made for some great gameplay, similar to the original RE5 and it's water-drinking/hallucination/heatwave system that never came to light in the final release unfortunately.
Possible, but as far as I know, Leon probably doesn't have much more to his gameplay than shown, considering we saw both the Tall Oaks and the China parts. His is more similar to Chris, whereas Jake is unique to them in that his is more melee based and less shooting.
Agreed. The scene from the debut trailer playable would have been a lot better, it showed more details and interactivity. Rodeo running through the streets, pushing cameramen out of the way and enjoying the beautiful lights and rich colors, topped with gunfights, melee and explosions would've made a better demo. Still loving his scenario though, I've always wanted to fight on rooftops at night and had hoped in RE5 we do, but it never happened, until now
Yeah I noticed it too. Really liked it and the fact that the whole bar doesn't restore but only the current segment will if not fully depleted. This makes it more fluid but keeps it challenging enough, especially considering the demo was on easy but the Javo's knocked 5 bars off of Chris with two "slam" type moves, easily. The player had to run away and up a ladder to safety so he could heal himself. So the survival and tension is not only still there, but they brought it up a notch or two.
LOL.
