Y O U ' V E B E E N W A R N E D!
Spoiler:
Between all the different flavours of zombifiying virus, the clones of clones, the mad geniuses and evil corporations and all the retcons and remakes, Resident Evils mythology is a muddy pit from which decipherable continuity has no escape. Somehow though it was all coming to this, every accidental outbreak, every zombified animal, every experiment with the plagas parasite and every stolen phial of toxic goo was leading RE to the moment when the bio-terror cold war would go hot.
On opposite sides of the world targeted terroist attacks turn the city of Lanshiang, China and the American Tall oaks Uni campus into twin ground-zeroes in a new era of terrorism. Caught in the middle of both are Re's Chris and Re2's Leon. Somehow between them in eastern Europe is a merc named Jake Muller although you'd recognise him better as Albert Wesker Jr. Re6 has three campaigns that you can play in any order you please, starting with Leon in the US with Chris in China or with Jake in Edonia. Mullers campaign begins in the fictional Eastern European nation where he was born. The son of Albert Wesker. Mullers blood holds the cure for Re6's new C-Virus which makes him the most vauable man in the world during the 2013's age of global bio-terrorism. 'Jakes story is a story of escape' Says the game director Eiichiro Sasaki. 'He is being followed and he is trying to evade these forces that are trying to capture him in the middle of the Edonian civial war. The horror elements you can introduce in that type of story are different from other characters and the way he will play is different too'
His co-op partner is Sherry all grown up and as much a mutant as Muller. Returnning to the series for the first time since RE2. Sherry is loaded with immunities of her own and has survived in the US goverment custody for the best part of a decade without the G-Virus overwhelming her body. Together they're unstoppable pair of near-invincible self-regenerating superhumans and their campaign is a melle fighter that Capcom are waiting until E3 to properly reveal.
'Sherry was taken into custody by the US goverment because they wanted to follow up on her, experiment on her and check what was up with the G-Virus' Sasaki Explains 'After years of that she moved on and became a special agent in the employ of the US goverment, trying to protect Americas interests in the world. Obviously the G-Virus has affected her and we've tried to come up with a play style for Sherry and Jake that matches the new story we've given for her. We cant tell you directly all the things she can do just yet, but just know Jake and Sherry's style will differ from other characters in the game.
'jake is a battle hardened merc' Sasaki continues. ' He's seen alot, fought alot, he doesnt care about most other people thats not the way he lives. Sherry is compassionate, she cares about other people and she wants to help anyway she can. These two are going to clash in alot of ways throughout the game.'
Chris Redfields story is an all-action shootout on the streets of the fictional city of Lanshiang where a C-Virus attack in the centre has mutated the entire population in ways the mix the worse effects of the T-Virus, G-Virus and Las Plagas. Once infected, creatures ennter a Chrysalid state before emerging in unpredictable new forms.
Ok that is the first page there is another two pages yet but its 4 am and I have had a few brewskis so I need to go to bed. I'll check the forum in the morning and if anyone wants me to continue let me know. Alot of this information is new to me but I havent been home alot recently and maybe I have alot of catching up to do let me know.
You might as well continue with the scans or information when you get the chance.
Here is my continuation of yesterdays OPM magazine article on RE6. Again same as yesterday if you dont want to know about STORY SPOILERS then dont click on the SPOILER link. Also anything in bracket (Like this) is things I have added and where not in the magazine just my thoughts.
Spoiler:
Although some behave like zombies other use their smarts and use simple melee weapons and the worst of them become Javo's. These nasties can work together like soldiers, repair limbs like RE4's plagas boorn Regenerators and even use firearms and other complex weapons. Shoot off a limb and a new randomly mutated limb grows back in its place, giving it further new abilities. 'You can attack anywhere and any bodypart can mutate into something new' says executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi. 'Everytime you attack a Javo its a different experience, depending on how you attack them' Under Chris orders BSAA agents enter the city with military force in an attempt to quell the outbreak and he'll be accompanied by co-op buddy Piers Nivens. Orginally introduced as Beards Nevence in a RE manga. Piers has worked with Chris long enough to deserve a less-bonkers anglicised named and to know the secret behind Redfield's new attitude.
'Chris looks like the Chris redfield we know but exactly six months earlier something happened whle he was fighting bio-terror in other parts of the world' says Sasaki. 'Its something that'll affect the way he makes decisions and the way he thinks about fighting bio-terrorism. The Chris we meet in China is one we're not accustomed to. piers has been supporting Chris since that time, six months ago and he'll be there in the prologue.'
'Chris's campaign is an action based thing' explains Sasaki. 'but we're still trying to bring horror elements to each of them in their own way and even an action story can have elements of horror that you cant do in say Leons story - that greater intensity and pressure'
Chris Leon and Jake all eventually meet in China but not before Leon is forced to assassinate the President on the Tall Oaks university campus. A bio-terror attack mutates the student population and zombifies the President of the US, leaving Leon with no choice but to take him down. Together, Leon and secret service agent Helena Harper make their escape from the uni on Helena's promise that she knows a thing or two about the attack. Leon is still the heart of RE, he's the naive innocent of the cast, easily placed in jeopardy by women - Ada, Ashley and now Helena - and all too keen to throw himself intos harms way to protect innocent people. While Redfield is murdering his way through Lanshiang is an attempt to stop the outbreak at any cost, Kennedy is trying to save as many lives as he can on the Tall oaks campus. More than once in the first half hour of Leons campaign his generosity gets the better of him and jeopardises their escape.
'As a character Leon really stands out for me' says Kobayashi. 'He has compassion in him that you dont always find.
(On this second page there is some small info on all the cast its a section called Dead Men Walking, I will continue Leons section after this.....)
Leon and Helena
Leon saves Helena from the zombified President just seconds into the campaign. Ever the innocent Leon is once again led astray by a mystery women; this time its Special Agent Harper, a woman who claims to know a thing or two about who's behind the outbreak on the Tall oaks campus and promises to tell him everything - if only they can make it to the University's church.
Chris and Piers
Six months before the outbreak in lanshiang the BSAA intervened in a mystery event where Chris was exposed to something thath will change the way he acts during his campaign. now roid raging hulkamaniac (LOL!!) Chris is tearing a warpath across China to get his hands around the throat of anyone responsible. Only BSAA sniper Piers Nivens knows his secret and the two of them will fight their way into the Chinese city to track the infection down to its origin - mystery woman Ada Wong.
Jake and Sherry
Months before the attacks on Tall oaks and Lanshiang the C-Virus was tested in Edonia's warzone, where Re2's Sherry Birkin is determind to get the son of Albert Wesker into China; where his immunities might just save the world. Both near-superhuman they wont need guns to survive when they can floor a small army with their fists. ( :-/ )
Ada Wong
Always in the background, Ada has been manipulating events behind the scenes since Re2. She now finds herself at the centre of a bio-terror organisation, wanted by the BSAA and the US goverment. Or does she? If you'd searched for the names Piers Nivens and Helena Harper before Capcom announced their new cast you'd have found them in just one place - a small Portuguese forum where a translator claims to have worked on the game. He knew everything about the cast one month before Capcom's announcement and his version of the cast list includes one Carla Radames a clone of Ada Wong.
(Continuation of Leons section)
'In our demo Leon is concerned with helping a man find his daughter. Things like that speak to who Leon is as a character and I like that about him. But he has another aspect to him thats maybe not so good - he often finds himself in bad situations because of the women in his life. That vulnerability is another aspect of Leon that I like.'
Once finished Helena and Leon leave the Presidents body in his office and make their way through the campus to the main hall where a banquet has been prepared and hastily abandoned after the outbreak. Its almost 15 minutes before Leon fires a shot in his Re6 campaign. (Interesting). Those 15 minutes are a series of in-game moments and brief cutscenes that set the stage for an escape from the Tall Oaks campus. Leon leans against door frames as he passes through and opens doors with a deliberate care - little animation details that each tell a story and seat the games characters in the enviroment. Cutscenes arent always hard cuts; instead the camera takes a life of its own and gameplay blends seamlessly into scripted events. Small scenes play out within the enviroment - as Leon brushes by a body, he asks aloud 'I wonder how much time we have before these corpses are on their feet?'
'We're really trying to recreate the horrific atmosphere fans remember from the first Resident Evils and going for a more gothic horror feel for Leons part of the story' Remarks Sasaki. (Fucking Awesome) ' But usually we left every big story moment to the big cut-scenes. This time we wanted to bring the home to the player and make that more immediate. We tried to add those elements to the game itself and bring the player closer to those dramatic elements.'
Before the action even starts Leon chases a distant shadow in the main hall down to a small utiliity room, where he finds one of the Presidents aides looking for his daughter, Elizabeth. Coughing and choking the aide complains about a mystery fog that rolled in from nowhere, but he regains his composure long enough to explain the situation. Ignoring Helena's complaints, Leon sets off with the aide and tracks the girls down to the music room on the same floor. Blood stains the floor and walls and the wounded girl shows clear signs of infection but she's the least of Leons problems. As they head to the Tall oaks parking level in the last working elevator, her father coughs his last cough and wakes up as a zombie. QTE'S ensue, the aide dies for a second time just as the lifts doors open a small army of classic RE zombies force their way inside and the firefight begins.
The car park is awash with blood and zombified students some shambling around aimlessly some sprinting and some even wielding simple melee weapons - whatever they were holding when the fog rolled in. Leon like every character in the game can move and shoot at the same time, aim with the left trigger, fire with the right and take cover behind objects. Up close Leon and Helena can snatch melee weapons from zombie hands and turn them around on the undead creatures - driving broom handles through their bodies and stabbing their own knives into their skulls. 'I wanted to change up the control scheme abit' says Sasaki 'and thats not because I thought it was bad in Re5; its just because as games develop and you get better, theres things you can make better. You can always make it better with each iteration. Thats our job - to constantly move forward and try and improve on what we did in the past.'
All there storis come to a head in Lanshiang, where Ada Wong - or at least a woman who looks like Ada if rumours are true (Booooo) is masterminding the global bio-terrorism attacks. Its here Chris will meet Leon in a deadly showdown; Chris wants Ada dead for the hundred thousand lives she's taken while Leon wants her as a witness, testifying before a grand jury about her work with Wesker and the new era of bio-terrorism she helped create. By the time you make it to the centre of Lanshaing you'll know a thing or two about everyone's motivations - why Chris is so driven to kill Ada, why Leon is so determined to bring her in and why Jake just doesnt give a damn.
'We're trying to deliver a horror entertainment experience' says Kobayashi. 'It's not just about survival horror anymore; its more than that. We're trying to make (Cod) everything in this game as dramatic as possible, from the storylines to the action, everything ties together. We're trying to put back in all the things you would expect from an RE game. All the different things from every RE - we're putting it all in the game to deliver something really huge, something you havent experienced before.'
'I'm a big fan of the RE series' says Sasaki. 'When I joined the company, right at the desk next to me they were testing Resident Evil 1 - as long as I've been at the company Re has been apart of my life. As developers it's our job to constantly move forward and try and improve on what we did in the past. This is a big game at Capcom - our biggest game - and we have lots more to show you before release.' Improbably its a release Capcom have brought forwards - due not on November 20 but October 2 2012. You'll see more in june at E3.
(Thank fuck my hands are killing me, cheers for reading. Theres also a little section about the demo with Dragons Dogma but its nothing new.)
Edit: I will try and get some pictures. Watch this space but there is no new shots. Just ones we have already seen.

- Why Am I getting the feeling Chris will die? Maybe he got infected with he C-Virus in Europe?
- I'm starting to think Sherry's and Jake's "Abilities" are coming from those shots they are taking.
That's why Jake and Sherry got beat up by Nemesis 2.0 in the captive trailer, they simply ran out of juice.
- I hope Zombies don't use weapons frequently. They really need to mix those types well (Traditional, Runners, Weapons).
-So it appears Carla has killed " a hundred thousand people", this probably means why Chris wants her death so much, he feels guilt for letting her get away 6 months ago, he couldn't stop those deaths.

The only thing that can defeat power is more power. That is the one constant in this universe. However, there is no point in power if it consumes itself.
It certainly looks like Chris is on his way out. What else is there for him to do in the story? It seems like he's really lost his way. I'm sensing a lot of redemptive setups in these story lines. Chris has lived long enough to see himself become the bad guy, Leon just killed the friggin' president (who turned into a zombie BUT STILL) and I've already blabbered at length about Jake and Sherry.

Here are the scans from the magazine. Sorry about the quality but I had to use my mobile phone. This is why I typed out the information. I like the double page of Leon and Chris. As I said before there are no new images so dont worry to much about seeing them because you have seen them all before.

Spoiler:
Vito, Capcom couldn't kill Jill on RE5. They won't kill Chris. But it's great to see he finally snapped. Wonder what happened to push him into the edge... Something related to Jill or Claire?
Jake's abilities must be from the C-Virus dancing with his Weskery blood, Sherry's have to be the G on her. Finally a controlled mutation of G-Virus? Interesting. Those two are gonna get all smoochy by the end of RE6. Mark my words. Wesker Birkin babies! LOL.
I just hope that the whole Wong/Radames plot is presented in a decent way. Clones are dangerous plot devices, they can fuck RE6 or make it big. We'll see.

I originally thought Chris's trauma was related to Claire or Jill, but the second trailer makes it pretty clear that it's from "Ada's" attack on his unit and his ensuing head injury. A pretty timely plot device considering how many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans (many of whom are also gamers) have traumatic brain injuries.

Spoiler:
I don't want Chris to die but if it benefits the plot... go for it.
I don't think Jill or Claire will have involvement on RE6. It will go down like this I'm sure:
Chris finds Carla on Europe --> Chris fucks up and lets Carla walk --> Carla kills hes entire unit bar Piers----> 6 months later--> Carla has killed thousands of people--> Chris feels those deaths are on him --> Hes hell vent on killing Carla --> RE6
About Jake and Sherry: I still think its the shots, why will Jake inject them otherwise?
I admit it will be good if Sherry turns out to be a G-Human.

The impression I get about the mystery shot is it's some variation on the prototype virus Wesker took back in '98. I think the question we're all getting at is: will Jake become dependent on the stuff the same way Wesker was (which the trailers sort of imply)? This could be a huge factor in gameplay. Maybe the super strength/endurance is only temporary and then you have to rely on your sidearm and risk massive amounts of damage until your next dose.
And oh yeah, I vote Sherry for secret crypto-villain. "Gentle heart," my butt.

But Jake has no way to get the Experimental Virus. Isn't already confirmed he got exposed to the C-Virus? maybe he got those abilities for a short time and needs to inject himself with the C-Virus every now and then to get them back (those needles are the same ones Chris founds on the Captive trailer, which are from the C-Virus)

Anyone else betting that 6 ends the series and then they re-boot? You got Sherry and Jake, both characters blood is gonna end up the cure for these viruses, Leon will end his story arc with Ada and Chris -MAYBE- will finally settle down with Jill at the games end...or at least stay poker buddies for life with her.

Chris and Jill have been buddies for so long that it would almost be like incest for them to start doing the horizontal mambo and having lil' kids and stuff.
I dunno about Chris... neither Jill or Sheva... and he even pushed Jessica off him in Revelations... I dunno.

I sincerely hope we won't be seeing a reboot of the series. Sure it wasn't ALL good, but I don't want everything thrown away to start something new. Just start a new game series. =\
Revelations set up some more possibilities with Chris and Jill. And I'm still expecting a story with Rebecca eventually(If Sherry can make a return to the series, I don't see why Rebecca can't).

Oops, yeah, it is the C virus. But to be fair, we don't yet know where the C virus came from. If it was derived from the Progenitor virus, it could be similar to the one Albert and Alex received. My best guess is that Alex and Albert had genetic resistance or even compatibility with the viruses. That's why they survived and became humanoid BOWs while the other Wesker Children subjects died. So Jake inherits that "special blood type" and bam, he has the same reaction to the new pathogen.

After Revelations, I definitely got the impression that Capcom considers Chris and Jill an OTP. I'll be really surprised if that's not resolved in RE6.
It would be great to see Rebecca again, but she never quite "went away" the same way Sherry did. After all, she was RE0's main character. I always suspected Capcom was deliberately keeping Sherry out of the spotlight so they could do something major with her down the road.
The reboot fetish that has risen in this generation needs to fuck back off and die.
