  • Jill/Chris - Item? Discussion

I'm not usually one for threads like this. It's preposterous really.

But - Revelations dropped another hint to the idea that these two are romantically involved when Parker states that Chris is already taken.

And then the PU Podcast forced me to rewatch sequences from the original, and Jill makes a big thing about Chris still being alive (on her ending when he is left behind) it's beginning to look more and more obvious.

Has any Japanese sources ever confirmed this? It's a silly topic but I feel as a fan I'd really quite like these two to be connected so to speak.

As much as News Bot will hate it I think it is pretty obvious they love each other. Neither of them just never step up and tell to another about it.

This was an interview with Jun Takeuchi made around 2009. It's right at the 20 minute mark.

Edit: Gave it a listen again. Here's word for word.

Girlinblue: "Is there really something going on between Chris and Jill? It's this trend to not show relationship between characters; doomed Leon and Ada relationship. Are you going to bend these ruled a little bit and show them together? Just so we could set our minds at ease, after ten years of these non-romantic relationships between lead characters."

Takeuchi: "For the Resident Evil series, it's kind of a rule for the scenario writers that we don't have these romantic relationships in the games. If Chris were real, and you asked him what the deal was with him and Jill, he would just say "Oh, well, she's my partner, you know?" but deep down inside you know they probably have some kind of feelings for each other. They just don't say it."

I like to think that Chris and Jill had a drunken one night stand, but Chris was so wasted that he couldn't get it up, and they both passed out naked in Jill's apartment. Ever since then, it's just been a really awkward partnership.

I think that they do have a strong relationship, but it's not a romantic thing; Revelations and RE5 prove that they are close, but I don't think we might see some lovin' between the two.
Maybe because they both have devoted their lives to fighting bioterrorism/outbreaks instead of following a "normal" life.

              Two possibilities :

              1/ They are an item.
2/ They love each other, but didn't really try anything.

My guess goes to number 2.

Let's look at the various hints throughout the series.

In RE1 : Jill shows her affection numerous times by hugging him in the cell and by resting her head on his shoulder. We also have a strange discussion between Jill and Barry in the chopper during one of the ending suggesting that Chris and Jill are an item, or it could be that Barry knows Jill is in love with Chris (most probable).

              In RER : Spoiler:

In Lost In Nightmare : An important detail. When Chris frees Jill from the trap, she says that "he sure knows how to keep a girl waiting"

RE5 : Sheva asks Chris if he was close to Jill. Again, just like in RER he doesn't give much details.

My conclusion? Chris doesn't know shit about women and is so obsessed about his job that he didn't even try something with Jill although she showed signs of interest. I hope for Chris that he finally realized after RE5 that Jill is the only woman he could ever hope to be with and that they are indeed an item during RE6. If not, he will remain single forever...

That's fantastic, a really great character moment lost in otherwise a simple moment of dialogue - I love this notion that the relationship is there - Chris has just never acted upon it.

As far as the RE world is concerned I think both characters share a kinship that goes beyond being an "item". They could see or date other people perhaps and there's enough flirting from other characters that keep that notion in mind, but these two aren't the type to settle down and live a normal life.

And after all they've been though how could they?

Still there's love between them, and I believe that they are aware of how each other feel. It's rare to see such close partners working together for as long as they have from S.T.A.R.S. all the way to the BSAA.

If they were more dedicated to their work than each other I doubt Chris would go against his orders to retreat and follow up on his lead to look for Jill as he did in RE5.

Ok, I just found the ultimate truth (lol). An unused dialogue of Lost In Nightmare posted by Vito on biohaze clearly indicates that Chris and Jill are not an item and that "Chris likes them younger" ha ha. Check it out :

They probably cut it from the final version because it ruined the mystery between the two.

Yeah I prefer they took that out - the ambiguity is far better than the reveal. Although it sounds like Jill is winding Chris up more than anything. And no-one would be more qualified than challenging him over liking them younger than his actual partner ;)

By Christ how amazing is Patricia Lee as Jill

I remember hearing that before. Jill's curiosity in who Chris could be seeing only makes it seem that more obvious to me that she's interested. Especially with the "like em young" line following her "I'm getting older" remark. Although I could see why they cut it out as it breaks from the focus both characters have as they go through their mission.

Ha. There's a bit of both jaleousy and amusement in Jill's voice. I like it. It's true Patricia Ja Lee was really good as Jill.

Too bad there isn't Chris' response. Anyway, it's officially Chris and "that girl of the tech department". Not Chris and Jill. Chris likes young geeks, end of story
