It also suggests that Revelations isn't a true classic game for lacking these early mechanics that fans asked for. They still have to appeal to casuals and for that you won't get another RE2 or REmake.
There are several non-touch screen puzzles similar to the older games, but not at the complexity of those in RE3. To sum it up, REV is a game which present the classic RE game in a modern way.

Rombie i guess you're right there. Initially I guess I'll just focus on the core reason, but ultimately they are not going to kill everything we loves from the old games.

    It's all just bollock excuses.

If Capcom actually took the time, they could make a decent survival horror style game again with the new controls + camera system. What's the point though when it's quicker/cheaper for them to pump out a full on action romp that they can market to a broader audience, thus make more money.

Capcom already has a popular well known gaming franchise in Resident Evil, they couldn't give two shytes what the true fans want these days, they'd rather pander to the kids who watch the movies with Milla Jovovich and make money.

With SlantSix's RE:ORC, it's like Capcom just said to them: "Make a Resident Evil game like those Socom games you made, we don't care how bad it is, just make sure it's set in Raccoon City during the 1998 outbreak with lots fan service so we can shut-up the hardcore fans while we continue to sell out with the main series."

Well Capcom, I'm teetering on the edge with my Resident Evil ORC pre-order, I'm going to cancel it just before release if I don't hear enough critical acclaim in time, which at the moment seems about as likely as the second 'bloody' coming!

I would call it an attempt if it wasn't a hand held. Besides, I want the traditional T-virus stuff, none of this crap that 'dissolves' when it dies. I mean it's pretty obvious those things in Revelations are just a poor rip-off of Regenerators from RE4.

    Amen to that.

It's like all this crap that keeps happening to the Kingdom Hearts series, I'm not a proper fan of those games but I really do feel sorry for the fanbase that keeps getting 'milked' these crappy knock-off hand held games when they just all want Kingdom Hearts 3 on the ps3 (and 360).

TBH, I would like to get Revelations, but I'm not terribly fond of hand held gaming any more, about all I do these days is sometimes play Master System and Mega Drive games via emulation on the DS, I haven't actually touched a proper DS game in nearly 2 years. So I'm not going to buy a 3DS just for Revelations.

At least they came out and gave an explanation finally.

This was obvious though but it's good to see someone from Capcom finally take the time out of their schedule to address the so-called RE purists. I understand a lot of people on this forum played the series from the beginning and while I would like to play a fixed-camera traditional type of RE game it just doesn't work with what they are currently going for. They are a business and they need to think in terms of numbers and at the end of the day a profit needs to be made. A lot of reviewers complain about the tank-like controls that they used to make. And hell, Capcom was using those controls for a lot of other games: Haunting Ground, Dino Crisis series, Onimushi (probably spelled that wrong), etc. It's just not going to sell with majority of gamers, today.

Lost in Nightmares was also a perfect example of how it felt using the traditional style. If you play that scenario on any other difficulty besides easy, try taking on the 'blob' and telling me how it feels. It's hard. The enemies in the game are much more precise in terms of weakness and the fixed-camera angles would just end up limiting them on what they can and cannot do.

Plus a lot of the staff that worked on the classic series aren't around anymore and that FLAGSTAFF company who wrote scripts for those games are gone. It's just one of those things you have to accept and move past. The closest you're gonna get is if someone made a mod of it.

Just so you know I was not the one making those complaints, personally I thought they were hilarious to say the least.

it's all about making money, the fans come second. it sucks that they don't try to keep some of those older elements at the same time as moving forward and introducing new elements but the old games are still great and i can always go back and play them. i can't remember the last time bought a game and wondered where to go or what to do next, thats part of the fun about games to me, trying to solve a problem with minimal advice, if i want to play a game with no effort involved ill go online and use a walkthrough.
