Actually, the title of that piece is: "Mama & Papa"

I find that picture oddly disturbing.
      That's because it is.

            Arsebiscuits.

I generally put a lot of trust into Capcom's numbers but this total, which doesn't include Japan, somehow doesn't even match the tracking of what we do have officially from the US and UK alone. I somehow doubt elsewhere in the world the game has sold more than 500,000 other copies. If it has...

Capcoms numbers are sold to retailers, the numbers we've been getting from tacking firms are sold to retail customers (us). The number difference is because shops still have copies in stock, the large number difference is because it is a new release so usually has a large shipment if expect to sell well, as with every game.

Over time as demand lessens further shipments will be much smaller and the number difference will decrease.

Well then thats not a proper sales total. You've in one swoop managed to make me question all of Capcom's totals off this. :p

Sure it's basically what Capcom shipped and basically sold to retailers at their cost price but how many actually sold is still really in question there isn't it.

Thats why the totals across the world don't match. Capcom seemingly added this 1.7 number on the back of the 2011 FY results which to me says this is what they put out in units by FY end, but the figures for the first week (and a bit) in the US and UK say that if this is the numbers Capcom put out there then no one's going to have any trouble finding a copy ever because it's sold no where close to that.

But in the end when they add on what they shipped in Japan to this total then it'll pass their (seemingly pointless) 2 million units mark and that'll make the shareholders happy. And another part of the fan in me dies a little.

Sales projections are always units shipped to retail, reported numbers are always the same. This goes for Sony and PS3s, Nintendo with Wii and so forth.

Japan's latest software sales numbers are in:

                        01./02. [WII] Mario Party 9 (Nintendo) - 144,585 / 297,468 (-5%)
                        02./01. [PS3] Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (Capcom) - 52,428 / 304,953 (-79%)

The two casual games are neck and neck!

^ I got a kick out of that... The sales just plummeted by 80%. Unfortunately that's still a boost for Capcom...

So much for that "popularity" excuse.

If any of you ever followed japanese sales you'd know that is normal for 90% of games. Failed to attempt to spin a negative I am afraid.

ORC is the only game on that entire list with such a dramatic drop. Exaggeration doesn't help you.
