The later designs of things like the virus capsules and the containers that hold the samples also feel inspired from the movie.

Umbrella Chronicles used Red Queen as the AI that "protects" I guess Umbrella's database and it got wiped out.. The first Outbreak had "The Hive" just as the name of Raccoon's hospital scenario, it isn't an actual name for anything, and I believe the Outbreaks are canon.
Raccoon City design in games set there after the movies matches the movies design of the city moreso also.

The only game set in Raccoon City post-movies is Operation Raccoon City, which doesn't really matter. The Outbreaks use the design of Raccoon City that was set in place since 1999, when the city map was actually drawn. Everything in the Outbreaks was made to work within that general layout.
RED QUEEN resembles the AI in the movies literally in name only.

PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium
Their struggle for existence is over for the time being. But a sin violating sanctuary isn't forgiven. This is not just an end. This is the end of a beginning.
Yeah I remember the elevated flyovers and motorways during RE3.

And people expect Anderson to adapt game characters faithfully? They couldn't get the Red Queen right. Seriously, set the example Capcom. If you're going to use material from the movies then get it right. Red Queen needs to sound British and have a visual representation that looks like this:
So disappointed....
Taking things from the movies and making them work in the game world isn't a bad practice, but thankfully it's not used much. Part of what the movies fail on is that they can't make anything from the games work in the movie world.
CAPCOM are just as guilty for the movies as Anderson, though. Namely Mikami and Okamoto.

Ah, but the movies are just amazing. In their own universe the characters are just awesome. Like Nicholai. Sure he's not like the game in RE3, but in the movies he was such a likeable loyal character.

Okamoto was the exec producer on the early films when he still worked for Capcom. He was on set for most of the first films shooting in fact, and was the main link between Capcom and the filmmakers.
I don't know about Mikami specifically though. But I'm guessing News Bot can fill that in. I know Anderson went to Japan and met with people at Capcom though, so I figure it's part of that. The ending of the first film in the draft was to take place on a giant elevator and it was people at Capcom on that visit that suggested the change to the train with the Licker (I'm sure he mentions this in the commentary but it's in plenty of interviews as well, plus the original draft is online).
I'd watch/read the interviews about why he chose to do 'this' with the films, but I've analyzed his work as a filmmaker, and hes just a clueless dumbfuck when it comes to quality and goes for gimmicks that the popcorn audience likes and stick to that.

Some people just can't appreciate his genius.
Case in point. People know him to this day. Books and movies are made about him. He was the subject of a lot of discussion and debate. All because of him and his work. He should be a damn hero to the Bay's Anderson's and Boll's of tomorrow.
I don't see any geniosity in using popular titles to promote their crappy movies.
They write shit and get paid huge amounts of money? And even with the original fanbase wanting them dead, they still get paid to make more because the movies made money?
That is kinda genius...
