Of course not. The derelict is a Juggernaut class warship, it's a biological bomber.

His missions was to destroy humanity, and he's woken up by humans. Kinda normal that he wants to finish them off.

If that was the case, why would they visit humanity during thousands of years and guide them through the process of evolution?

That's never implied, in the same vein that what i'm suggesting, is never implied either. I simply don't have an answer as to how those pictograms end up in those caves...

But I cannot wait to discuss how they came to be.

Do Engineers.... Birth Alien Queens? I ask because the Proto-Xeno at the end, has a head within a head, exactly like the Queen. This would work very well with Alien, in that a queen would emerge from the Jockey, and create a hive in the lower parts of the derelict, which obviously Kane stumbles across.

Not the same planet, not the same ship sadly. No connection to Alien except references.

No I appreciate that - what I'm saying is, did a similar thing happen to that Jockey on LV-426, and as a result births a queen. Was showing what emerges from a jockey at the end of Prometheus a way of showing us, indirectly what will happen on LV-426.

No idea. The one in Prometheus isn't chestbursted, not the same process so...

And there's one more incoherence that comes to my mind. The engineers leave star coordinates to the humans to finally meet again someday. Why would those idiots give them the adress of a planetoid who's sole purpose is to produce biological weapons to exterminate life on other worlds? If you meet indians in the Amazone forest, are you gonna give them a map to area 51? That makes no sense.

Lindelof should stick with TV shows and stop writting movies, seriously.

The only far stretch of resolution we could get from the star maps was that they were deliberately left by the master race or whatever, as a test. To see if our kind would ever establish the technology or power to be able to seek out our makers, and if they ever could then they have become too powerful and as such must be exterminated.

One theory eluded to was that the whole creation of the human race was an experiment from the Engineers into creating a race of humans or creatures.

My only real issue with the film that has emerged this morning is the backlash that Lindelof is getting, I never watched Lost, or am aware of anything else he's done, but many seem to say he just chucks something into a script with no possible thought to how it would work or resolution, in that case it worries me somewhat - that many of the ideas i've spent the last dozen or so hours deducing and trying to solve even he himself, the fucking writer, doesn't know the answers to.

                Source?

                As I said:

Sadly 2000 years ago we were neither too powerful nor advanced, the luckiest of us were just peasants.

Well, then I don't know where you deduce that from, since the last time they visited humanity were thousands of years ago.

Hmm.. Yeah, the whole star map does leave a lot of questions. What do you guys think?

Damon Lindelof is walking on egg shells now really. He is a talented writer with his strong points being characters. Up until its final year Lost was immensely successful but for most series 6 was a huge let down and left many things unanswered. He then moved onto Star Trek, which despite its success, re-wrote the original canon and has basically left the previous 10 films and all the TV series essentially irrelevant now. And now he has done the same with the Alien universe. LV-223 is in the same star system as LV-426. You can even see the same gas giant from Alien that both moons are orbiting. Following Prometheus, why then does the company send the Nostromo to LV-426 when they already know of a nearby planetoid that has a derelict jockey base full of biological weaponry? Why spend 4 films chasing specimens of the xeno-morph when they have potential access to an even deadlier weapon contained within these urns?

Secondly, the jockey does not give birth to a Queen but simply just a proto-xeno, the same thing that is on the mural. It is not Giger's alien as we know it on the mural but the same thing that appears at the very end of the film. This is simply just the prototype stage of the weapon that will eventually become the Alien.
For example, if Birkin's t-Virus produced the xenomorph as we know it, then this proto-version would have been produced by Marcus' original strain and still needs a lot of work to improve

This is how I saw it anyway. And it was an outbreak of these proto-xeno's that destroyed the other jockeys at the base and stopped them from getting to Earth.

It's not a bad film and I'm going to watch it again tonight but the script is incredibly shoddy. I don't understand Ty how you like the idea that nothing is answered. I understand we want a bit of mystery but to have literally no questions answered is a massive cop-out.

Honestly, it's a couple of things.

The first of all that was refreshing to have a movie, that doesn't want to explain every aspect of a characters motive, or have every mystery explained, so that we've something to digest upon review, something to look for on a repeated viewing. Now I grant you, that's perhaps expecting too much from a writer, and their intentions may never meet the expectation, but I like a bit of mystery, so the fact that for the hours since i've been exchanging text messages to the people I saw it with, throwing ideas about, is wonderful for me. I just hope, like I mentioned in a previous post, Lindelof knows himself the answers, then I would know it wasn't just made up as it went along (like how something like Metal Gear Solid 4 does for me).

And secondly, when they first announced the 'Alien Prequel' I shuddered at the concept that everything to do with the space jockey would be explained, and that everything, the ship the jockey himself, the cargo, would be completely ruined and one of the greatest mysteries in science fiction history would be completely ruined. The fact that they went to some length to show an interpretation of that, but still left so much unturned, (why that ship, why that cargo, why that planet - what matter of creature burst from him, what matter of creature impregnated him?) Again, Lindelof, Spaites or Scott probably don't have any fucking idea either. But I'm pleased I can still watch Alien, and still not really have any fucking idea what that ship is doing there, and how those specific eggs got to be there.

Another idea out there, is the creature at the end a new, one off breed of Alien? I ask because the Jockey in Alien is clearly fossilised, and the ship and tech looks far older and not as advanced, can we then assume that the Jockey from Alien is from a point in time long before many of the Engineers were killed off some 2000 years ago. Is that perhaps where the mural comes from? And the Giger Alien we see in Alien is actually far far older varient than this Proto one we see in Prometheus.

Well if the ship has been there for thousands of years perhaps the cargo was originally the urns and they have changed into eggs over a long period of time? The black oil did seem to have differing effects after all and seemed to be affected by a sudden change in atmosphere.

Oh yeah, and my final gripe with the film was the score. It was terrible and felt so out of place.

I did also wonder why Holloway saw the chamber as a 'tomb', which then lead me down a thought process that the urns were actually the dead of an alien race.
