On May 13, 2005, NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association)
a partnership with Capcom which would allow them to produce a line
of figures for Capcom's Resident Evil 4. Over the course of the next few
months more information was released until finally a concrete list of
the figures in Series 1 was released.
Ada Wong, with a tommy gun and a handgun.
Chainsaw Ganado (Blood Spattered), with his
Chainsaw Ganado, with his trademark Chainsaw.
Verdugo, with a flexible tail.
Leon S. Kennedy (Coat) with RPG, Two Grenades,
A Flash Grenade, An F-Aid Spray, and a Handgun.
Leon S. Kennedy (Shirt) with TMP, Two Grenades,
An Incendiary Grenade, Shotgun, F-Aid Spray, and a Handgun.

Its also worth noting that there was a "chase figure" in Series
1. It was a blood spattered version of the Chainsaw Ganado. Not many have
seen this figure, as its quite rare. It was an exact replica of the standard
Chainsaw Ganado figure however he was splashed with blood, as was the
Chainsaw. Randy Falk of NECA has this to say on the figure:
||"There is a blood splattered version of the
Chainsaw Ganado but this was a chase figure he was packed 1
in every 10 cases towards the end of the production run and is very
limited and rare. I would say less than 500 exist in total."
Shortly after word began spreading about this special chase figure, a
rather shady online retailer began making its own "custom" Bloody
Chainsaw Ganado's off the normal ones. Its for this reason that any unsealed
Bloody Ganado figure cannot be verified as authentic. NECA has since dealt
with the situation however the damage was done. Please be aware of this
when you are looking to complete your collection.
Further complicating matters was the quantities of both Leon versions.
Online retailers took advantage of this and began selling one of the two
versions of Leon for an exorbent price. It was revealed before release
that the quantities of the shirt version and the coat version were 50/50.
This however didn't stop the rumors that one version was more rare.
Its also worth noting that for the release of Resident Evil 4 on the
Playstation 2, Capcom created a special Limited
Edition pack which included a Leon S. Kennedy figure from the NECA
line. Limited to only 100 made, it was quickly sold out and a Second
Pack was issued which had no limit apparently. This time Ada Wong
was included in place of Leon S. Kennedy. Upon receiving my orders for
the Limited Pack's I noticed that one of my Ada Wong figures had the paper
still attached on the insert where it was supposed to be cut. Most likely
this was an oversight by NECA's production line.
The error in packaging.
With the first Series getting huge amounts of buzz in the Resident Evil
community, NECA decided to unveil Series
2. The initial reaction was disbelief. From the promotional picture
the figures looked absolutely astounding and extremely accurate to the
games characters. Fan's were anxious to get their hands on the line and
pre-orders began almost immediately. The line would feature 7 (Ultimately
9, thanks to a chase and an exclusive) figures, predominantly of enemy
Finally a release date was set for the figures, May
2006. Upon the release it was learned from
NECA that there was not only a Chase Variant, but a convention exclusive
figure! The Chase Variant ended up being a Regenerator (Iron Maiden) as
it is viewed through the Thermal Scope of Leon's Rifle. A contest was
even run with the help of the website MySpace. The first person to prove
that they found the (then unknown) Iron Maiden Chase Variant would receive
the Convention Exclusive figure.
Lucky fan Ryan B. of Connecticut eventually found the figure and claimed
his prize. The Summer Convention Exclusive figure ended up being yet another
Leon figure, however this time he wore his RPD suit, which is an alternate
costume in the game. Randy Falk has revealed the Leon figure is limited
to approximately 3,000 made.
Los Illuminados Monk (Steel Skull Mask w/ Black
Robe) with a Crossbow.
Los Illuminados Monk (Cow Skull Mask w/ Red
Robe) with a Crossbow.
Garrador with claw attachments.
Krauser with three arm attachments and a knife.
Los Illuminados Monk (Black Hooded Robe) with
a Ball & Chain and a Shield.
Los Illuminados Monk (Bald w/ Black Robe) with
a Plagas head attachment, and a Sickle.
Regenerator (Iron Maiden).

body and red Plaga's visible.
Leon S. Kennedy (Convention Exclusive) with TMP, Incendiary Grenade,
Two Grenades, F-Aid Spray, Black Handgun and the Riot Gun (Shotgun).

Overall a figure series based on Resident Evil hasnt seen such attention
to detail since the Moby Dick Biohazard line. NECA has produced an excellent
set of figures here and we look forward to reviewing the upcoming 3rd
series from them.
NECA has yet to speak of Series 3, however word on that has already been
leaked and the figures are in the works. This set will apparently
focus on the series as a whole rather than one particular game. The known
figures for this third line all carry the 10th
Anniversary moniker, so its likely a release or official word will
come down on them soon. It should be noted that the figures shown above
are "2-Ups". Which is a sculpt of the figure at approximately
2 times or more of the actual figure. NECA is not producing large figures.
As of right now the figures are:
Jill Valentine (Remake) with Beretta and Beret.
Chris Redfield with Shotgun.
Hunk (Resident Evil 4).

I've also been lucky enough to be provided with the high
resolution art that was used for much of the line's packing thanks to
NECA's media contact. You can view those here:

This feature will be updated as soon as more information is learned on
the line. Check the news page for update notifications. The next page
contains personal shots of the figures outside of their packing. I've
opened them up in order to get better shots of them. Enjoy!
