I think Resident Evil 5's story did a good job, no in fact, a bloody great one. The whole build up prior to its release (the viral information and the BSAA server) had many interesting areas on building up the foundation of the series' universe; BSAA, Bio-terrorism, the Global Pharmaceutical Consortium, and so fourth.

The story managed to continue the arc of the previous series, as well going into more depth of the whole las plagas anatomy, bridging what was a cluster fuck concept in 4, making it into a far more sinister and aggressive biological weapon. The game is rich in detail, with different layers of the game telling the story- cut scenes, the detail, the areas themselves, the passive dialogue, and the games in-game and special files. And this was more Chris and Wesker’s game, everyone else was secondary for bridging this purpose (such as Chris looking for Jill) and nothing more, and it gave a lot more insight on their relationship between each other, and giving Wesker, and Spencer, the best damn villain the series has created and gave him a satisfying end, even though he had a short amount of screen-time, a spectacular finish to their behalf for the old arc.

Could of the story been better? Yes, but I think considering the direction the series has gone since after 4, it’s more than satisfying to be a good Resident Evil game for this literati on of consoles.

My bad... I was refering to it as this whole master plan to mass produce things, but looking at it closely there's truly no comparison. You got that info really quickly though

There is no comparing 'The Wesker Children' to 'Les Enfants Terribles.' NO comparing whatsoever.

    'The Wesker Children'
This plan was called the Wesker Plan, which was named after the chief researcher at the time.

According to this plan, hundreds of children born of parents of superior intellect from all nationalities would be collected.

    ...

All the Wesker children would be administered an experimental virus.

This virus was administered to screen out the more gifted of the Wesker children.

    and...

    'Les Enfants Terribles'

...which in English means 'The Terrible Children,' was a project initiated by Zero and carried out by Dr. Clark that aimed to produce clones of the legendary solider, and founding member of The Patriots, Big Boss. Big Boss was sterilized by exposure to nuclear radiation (most likely caused during the nuclear testing at Bikini Atoll or by the explosions caused by the Davy Crocketts) and, as a result, natural reproduction was not possible.

Wesker Children = naturally born children with parental consent.
Les Enfants Terribles = clones of one man.

    There's really no comparison.

How exactly did it 'rip off' MGS? I know there were some similarities between RE5 and MGS4, but seriously, I'd like to know how it ripped anything off. I will say this though, if RE5 'ripped off' more from MGS4, it would've been a much better game -- like maybe giving Wesker a monologue or two to explain his plan more, instead of leaving it to files and imagination.

I've read the whole thing, and as others have said, it's fan fiction ok, but I think that RE5 is good as it is. This comes from a Wesker fan who didn't want him to die; but this fan-fic revealing that Spencer IS Wesker's father? No. More cliche than anything in the series.

We all had our hopes and theories of what RE5 could be, and now that it's out and done, we wanted something else. I'm happy with what I got. I mean, as a fan I can disagree with plot choices made and other things, but I support the creators no matter what; that's the reason I'll buy Darkside Chronicles and the other titles.

I don't really understand how I was being scathing. I'm sure everyone can think of something they'd rather have changed about RE5 or the series in general, but the fact of the matter is we aren't the production team. These are people that spent years creating something. Unlike a fanfic which has simply taken elements from these creators and other sources (I saw the words Star Wars mentioned), it wasn't something that they simply threw together and said "This is our final project". I'm pretty certain that if anyone walked up to a member of the RE production staff and said "This is how your game should have been", they probably would have felt offended. I really don't think anyone has the right to say those words when they aren't the ones spending years developing a story and characters that need to appeal to an overall audience.

People keep bitching about Sheva and the race card, but I don't see any issue with her. I personally like the fact that we had a new face. Which RE game hasn't introduced a new character? Sheva's backstory was well developed in her file and reflected situations that are very similar to life in unstable African nations, where children are taken in by rebels and turned into soldiers and where betrayal is just another part of a normal day. Besides....I liked the fact that Sheva was Chris's partner. Having Chris working with someone he didn't really know at first and having him tell his story, giving him the chance to express himself seemed to make him a stronger character. You could also add that in his search for Jill, it built their relationships as well.

As for Wesker's role....it's been ten years since he's been human. He wouldn't be able to function in a normal society setting. He was phsyically more powerful than any normal human, and especially in the RE universe he was one of the smartest characters. It would have been a bit out of place for a man with such power to simply take the role of an underling. He wasn't on some crusade to end humanity simply because he wanted to. As a creature of "superiority", he thought he could do something better.

tl:dr- Fan fiction is fine when it stays where it belongs. The writer is basically only creating it to make themselves happy and get a little bit of attention. Trying to say that it should be what others have already created is a bit disrepectful to the source material.

I though RE5 was fine as is. Even if they did kill Wesker, it was probably a good move on their part.

    TL;DR

I echo the sentiments of some people in this thread. Maybe if TC titled the thread something like "Resident Evil: Revelations (A Fanfic I wrote)" instead of what "What Resident Evil 5 Should Have Been," people would be able to appreciate it a bit more. The fact is, no one really cares about what people think RE5 'should have been' because it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about it. I'm sure we all have our own opinions on what we think games should be but it doesn't really matter, does it? We're not the developers.

But as far as the fanfic goes, I'm sorry to say, but I skimmed through it and it looks pretty lame. All I had to read was "Village," "Caves" and "Castle" before my palm felt a magnetic pull towards my face.

Its not bad but really all that was changed was classic enemies and Jill and Chris going after Spencer, which they did in 2006. I think Re 5 did a good job with the story and had a good ending to Chris and Jills struggle.

    [QUOTE=Mr. Spencer;97619]How delightfully scathing.

My own take on things would be to have RE5 play out like a Time Crisis game, with Wesker operating in the capacity of a chief henchman with a personal vendetta against the protagonist - like Wild Dog. I simply don't see him as a main villain, he's always been a henchman figure. Other than that I don't know, I don't like to write up something that would just be considered fanfiction - which it is. [QUOTE=Mr. Spencer;97619]

I agree actually. Wesker is perfect for a similar role to Wild Dog. They tried to make him a main antagonist but ended up making him the stereotypical badguy who just doesnt like the world. Other than that this fanfic piece needs work. Im not saying its bad, that is comparing to the story RE5
, but it does need alot of work because this is pretty much RE4 with BOWs

That said, I think my idea for Nicholai having his own tropical island with a midget butler was pretty epic.

There is nothing wrong with abit of fan fiction now and again, although I dont agree with him, I did enjoy reading it and there was some nice ideas. I definatley think it should have been a Chris and Jill game, specially as it ties in with Re1 so much. The only reason Sheva was in the game is because of all the racist claims that came out after the first few trailers. They were accused of being racist so their answer was lets put some black people in the game (Sheva & Josh) just to show that they can be good as well as evil. I am nowhere near racist but sometimes I do feel black people play the skin colour card just because they can, and this was one of those times.

So you basically wanted RE4 in Romania, sans Island, with the BSAA instead of Leon?

I recognise that there was a lot of effort put into the post but still, it's rather derivative.

I think you guys are being a bit too harsh on him, he comes on here and posts something he's written to be critiqued by RE fans and if you didn't feel like reading it you should have justed exited the thread and not stated it was just a waste of time, thats kind of rude in my opinion.

I read the entire post and thought it was an ok fanfic. It does need some work but I like the idea about the Umbrella scientist's DNA being stored and I like how you added Ozwell into the plot.

Thanks for sharing how you would have liked RE5 to have been, it was an enjoyable little story, if you add to it let me know.

I'm sure we all have different opinions on how 5 should have been, I know I do. Again, it was an interesting read and thanks for sharing it with us. Also welcome to the board!
