  • RE: Degeneration released for iPhone

Hey I dunno if anybody has come across this yet but RE: Degeneration is in the app store for iPhone & iPod touch. It's $6.99, looks pretty cool I'm about to check it out.

Link to the game in the app store (via iTunes)

Here's what i posted on Biohaze, bit more info...

The port of the N-Gage's RE: Degeneration game has been released for $6.99 (£3.99) on the iTunes App store from right here.

Images, and (eventually) impressions in the Comments. Meanwhile, there's an impressions thread over at TouchArcade, and a HD video here.

Gonna pinch my mate's iPod Touch today in work, will post some comparisons to the original version and this tonight if i can!

The game is garbage. Looks ok but plays shit. Controls are awful, its just a straight up port of the java game. Takes little advantage of the iPhone, it's very slow moving. Sound is bad, music is bad. This would be cool on a razr phone or something but its crap here. Very lazy and embarassing.

Well it looks fine for the Ipod... Yet I want my Xbox Arcade release with improved graphics and good controls. JK. If I ever get an Ipod for sure I'm gonna try this.

I thought the music was from the original RE from what I've heard from the Nokia .sisx version. I thought it was cool..

It's not that the game itself is bad, for a java game it's pretty good. But with games like MGS on iphone and all the good independent games out it was just really lazy for capcom to release this.

You do realize the MGS game is nothing more than a glorified flash game, right? It's basically Duck Hunt with an MGS coat of paint. It doesn't even come close the Degeneration game in terms of content.

I'm well aware, but it at least tries to make use of the iPhones controls. It's a great first effort on konami's part. Porting degeneration to iPhone means the next game will still be a first effort on capcom's part and most likely be garbage as well.

haha yeah, you get to touch a touch screen, it's an incredible use of the controls!

Even as a port, Degeneration beats Metal Gear Touch hands down as a gaming experience.

                    Stop contradicting yourself

Degeneration was a solid effort on the N-Gage that was only slightly held back by the controls, which has been sorted out as far as i've seen from a few videos so far.

To be honest, MGS: Touch is quite fun.

And the controls are far from perfect for RE on the iPhone.

I agree it's fun...but it's nowhere near as good as Degeneration is to me. And of course they're far from perfect, they're touch screen-based...but they're still an improvement on what the N-Gage's.

Simple tweaks would have made the interface a ton better. Move over the thumbstick thing a bit (along with making it bigger, or adjustable), or better yet, let me have my finger anywhere on the screen, and the controls would be a ton better.

Where do you see a contradiction? You said it best, Degeneration was a solid effort on the N-Gage. It comes nowhere near the quality of even independently released games on the iPhone. It's at best a better version of other RE cell phone games like The Missions.
