I wonder what unlockables they will have for people who've beaten DS2 on Hardcore... I've beaten DS2 on Hardcore maybe 6 times. I've beaten DS1 on Impossible roughly 10 times. On DS2 I've beaten Zealot mode 10 or so times. God, my "round" number is 22 on DS2 and DS1 is round 18.

Now I recently got a Game Genie for PS3 and it makes Hardcore mode so laughably easy. Save the game early, use the Game Genie to give you 999,999 credits and 9,999 nodes.. and wallah. You're pretty much maxed out from the start. And if you have DLC weapons or armor that makes it all the better. I blew through DS2 on Hardcore in 4.5 hours with only two saves.

If you guys need the hardcore save with: all weapons maxed, all suits acquired, 9,999 nodes, 999,999 credits, rig/stasis maxed, and the Hand Cannon, please do let me know. I can re-assign the save for you guys. All I need is a DS2 save from you with your PSN profile embedded.

Not sure for PS3, possibly nothing? Props for completing it so many times though! Twice was enough for me.

For the PC version someone directed me here http://www.masseffectsaves.com/ to get the Mass Effect suit. Put one of the saves in Documents > Bioware > Mass Effect 3 > Save >

Ugh, my Dragonborn DLC activates soon - not gonna have time for both games. Second Skyrim playthrough will have to wait for awhile.

To anyone who has beaten it, what did you think of the ending? I thought it was good but not great.

The game does have some issues with the story, but I can overlook them. The gameplay was fast and frantic. Was the game better than DS2? No it wasn't but I'd say it's on par with it. It's not better than DS1 at all, but close. It's cool how this game was modes from booth games. New Game + has all of DS2's modes while normal signal player was DS1's modes. Oh and Hand Cannon anyone?

But honestly though, there was a huge emphasis on action, more so than both of the previous games combined. While not bad, it does detract from the horror element. The environments aren't dark anymore but are more well lit, which isn't bad at all. I think the brighter areas are perfectly fine.

I'm not too far in but having fun (especially after chapter 5). On co-op hilarity will always ensue at some stage or another.. It's not really horror anymore like DS1 but it can be a little tense if your co-op partner is not around/disconnected. Combining a shotgun into any other weapon is awesome, nothing can get close to you. Feels very easy on hard difficulty though. Maybe starting on impossible would of been a better option..? Enemies that we feared in DS1/2 are just mere shadows of their former selves.. you can cut them down with any weapon, tuning the weapon will just make it faster it seems.

They at least tried to add in a few (weird) puzzles, so its not totally brainless action.. Lack of specific ammo types makes it quick to play, but makes the weapons feel a little less special.. you won't really give much thought about your inventory either (at least not yet for me), so there's a lack of any survival horror and items galore. Does the game get harder in the later chapters or is it roughly the same throughout?

It gets harder later on, but not terribly so. I had like 3000 rounds on my Marauder Pulse Rifle with 3+ Damage, 3+ Reload, 3+ Clip, and 3+ Rate of Fire in various configurations, plus I had Damage Support and Flame Glaze attached to it along with an under barrel shotgun. This gun is so fricking powerful that I beat impossible mode already without dying. I beat the game on Normal first then did a New Game + on Impossible, but it's still too easy.

Classic Mode is harder as you can't craft your own weapons and are forced to use ones from previous games. So Pulse Riffle, Plasma Cutter, and so on. You can't mix and match and are limited to 4 upgrade spots per gun. This mode is on par with DS2's Zealot mode. Items and ammo are also much more limited.

Going into the game I was concerned about the action and co-op ruining the game but it was the story that spoiled the game for me. The ending was pretty pointless if you know what I mean. The whole love triangle thing was filled with laugh out loud dialouge and also pointless. I think they really tried to cram this huge story into such little time and half the time it didnt even make sense. Dead Space 1 and 2 was simple and straight forward and number 3 went abit over the top. I still enjoyed the game but it was no where near the heights of epic that was the first 2. I liked some of the music but not enough of it. Some tracks had a very Alien/The Thing vibe and then they would throw in some sort of fast paced trancey rock rubbish. Played it single player and I thought the best part about this game was the way that they managed to keep the co-op guy out of the story for so long. He did pop up several times out of nowhere but it was great not to have to worry about him like RE5/Sheva. All co-op games should have this option.

As soon as I finished Dead Space 2 I wanted to go back and replay it but with the 3rd I feel like well I better play it again because I paid the money for it. I dont actually want to its more of a well I should. Hated the work bench the suit rig was how it should be. All these weapons and create your own gun was a waste of time that I really have no interest in spending time on. I did however enjoy the little Scavenger bots those were a good idea. I think they spent to much time on co-op and weapons and not enough time on story and Dead Space.

                Finally arrived at the planet.

I'm enjoying the game so far even though it stopped being a horror game and it's a just a action game with monsters. The gameplay is fine, the weapon customization is really interesting and the space sections are tons of fun. The soundtrack is good but I don't feel it suits the game. One thing that I really like is the art direction for the enviroments, Visceral did a great job on the city in the beginning, very Blade Runner like, it makes me think how they could do a great sci-fi space action game without having to pretend it's horror.

It has some decent gameplay mechanics, shame it's so easy though. Hopefully future DLC packs will make it harder, and put the weapon customization/resource system to better use..

The level design could be a bit more interesting at the start.. I still haven't reached the planet yet.. some of the side missions use identical areas I think, only with a few changes..

Loaded up on Normal, played for about 45 minutes and discovered how much ammo and health I had. Went back to Hard and so far the only gripe I had is the ammo system. Somehow having universal ammunition in this game ruins the survival horror component. Being able to craft additional ammunition doesn't give the desired effect either.

I'm also very pleased with the story so far. There's enough ominous background stuff going on (with the ruined fleet in orbit and the Mass Effect copy-catting) which they've used relatively well.

Finished it. I liked it more than DS2, it felt less linear with the side missions and it had more varied enviroments, but I have some problems with it:

                      - The conflict with Norton was totally unecessary and the result predictable, all that relationship drama bullshit just because they needed an excuse for Ellie to leave Isaac and not stay with him so they could put a soldier dude (who looks like James Vega from Mass Effect) on the co-op. Had they just left put Ellie as co-op partner and cut off all that drama would've been much better on my opinion. I'll say one thing though, I'm glad it wasn't "Dead Space 3: The Search for Ellie" as the trailers and demo indicated.

                      - TOO MANY ENEMIES. It was damn annoying, near the final chapters every room I entered I had to kill 20 something monsters to procceed. Which brings me to another point, when enemies got too close it was almost impossible to shoot their limbs, I never had this problem on the other games, and they throw corpses everywhere so sometimes I'd shoot dead ones thinking they were alive.

                      - Suit upgrading didn't feel as cool as it did in previous games, and DS2 and DS3's suits still don't beat the one from the first game.

Overall it's a good, solid game and I blame EA for the direction the series took.

I used Contact beam with that ground shot and tried the hydraulic engine (I think that's how it is called), that laser knife kinda thing. While they helped a lot they took to long between shots and to reload.

The Force Gun is great at making multiple enemies fly backwards. Shotgun fares similarily, but not as effectively.

Not gotten around to finish Dead Space 3 yet (had the horrors of enduring Aliens: ColonialMarines ... fuck ...)

But Dead Space 1-2 became Easy Mode on all difficulties the moment you realized that the ticket to victory was to just upgrade the Force Gun to max capacity and then either spend the rest of your upgrades on the Plasma Cutter or the Pulse Rifle. The Force Gun is like a giant "FUCK YOU" button when it's upgraded and in the case where it doesn't shout loud enough, it at least buys you a few seconds of extra time. Kinda hoping the weapon creation system in Dead Space 3 makes for more interesting "FUCK ALL!" solutions.

I beat Dead Space 3 twice a few days ago. First time alone and then the second in co-op with a friend. I liked it a lot and I honestly thought the story was great, even the somewhat controversial ending. It was definitely no Mass Effect 3 and it was pretty much what I expected. Some of my thoughts:

                                - The Story: Like I said, I loved it! I see it getting a lot of hate and I don't understand it. Did Dead Space 2 get a lot of flak for it's story? It was on par with 3's IMO. (Not that I didn't like 2's story, don't get me wrong.) The love triangle thing was a bit eh but I actually kind of liked it. It made me feel for Isaac more. The part when you first meet Ellie left me just as angry as Isaac was. As for the ending? I thought it was fine. I was hearing bad things about it before the game even came out. When I got to it, it seriously left me saying "That's it? That's what people are getting so mad about? Are you kidding me?" Read the spoiler for more of my thoughts on it:Spoiler:

                                - The human enemies: I was actually extremely hesitant and worried when I first heard about their inclusion. After playing through the game twice, I'm happy to say that they definitely were not that big of a deal. Most of the game is spent killing the necromorphs every one loves with a few sections where you have to gun down some of Danik's men. Luckily these sections are brief and in their entirety, not bad at all. They're certainly no Javo. A few shots the head and they're down. I actually liked how at some parts, necromorphs would show up and get in the cross fire. I'd usually let them do the dirty work as they just ripped the humans apart.

                                - The horror is barely there anymore but it still feels like Dead Space if that makes sense? It's as much Dead Space as 2 was anyway. It still has its moments of jump scares of course (and some that got my friend a couple of times which warranted a good laugh) that everybody comes to expect. I actually really enjoyed the planet atmosphere and setting. Definitely reminded me of John Carpenter's The Thing at parts. I wish Visceral would have included some easter eggs such as a guy with his wrists slit in one of the bases you come across. It would have been amazing and certainly would have fit the game.

                                - Carver: I was pretty positive I was going to hate this guy going in. All the footage I've seen beforehand was him being a douche towards Isaac. However, after reading the graphic novel before playing, I kind of felt sorry for him. By the end, he definitely improved to me and I actually grew to like him quite a bit. He actually has some lines that I really liked. An example (warning, has end game spoilers):
                                Spoiler:

                                - Music: I loved the soundtrack to this game. I especially love how one of the tracks has a very clear homage to the Alien theme in it. Definitely plan on picking up the soundtrack at some point.

                                - Upgrades suits, and weapon crafting: If there was any kind of complaint I had for this game, it would be that the power nodes are gone. The circuits just weren't the same. Also I don't understand why the Advanced suit wasn't included in this game. I loved it in 2. The suits in 3 are probably the weakest in the series to me although I didn't necessarily hate some of them. As for the weapon crafting, I had a love/hate thing for it. I loved that I could make my dream gun but I hated how it kept making me go back to the bench every 5 seconds to try something new. I'm a very indecisive person.

But anyway yeah, I thought it was great! The first Dead Space is still my favorite but I'm not entirely sure if I liked 3 more than 2. They're both pretty equal to me. I plan on going back at some point and completing both classic and hard core modes but for now, I'm gonna take a break.
