  • Games for Windows Live question

Hey guys, know there's some gamers around here that must surely use GFWL.

I've got the retail version of Fallout 3 and since the grand total for all the DLC is actually going to be higher than how much the GOTY Edition costs, it makes sense to trade the retail copy and rebuy it as the GOTY Edition.

If I sell it on Ebay or whatever, what happens to my Live Access Key? I've been reading of horror stories that you can actually get your account banned if someone else re-registers the key on another install. So i'm in two minds with what to do.

    Thanks for any help/advice.

I don't believe someone else attempting to re-register the key will get your account banned, the key just won't work for them. For all GFWL titles, the key is tied to a gamer tag, so for Fallout, they can install and play the game but they won't be able to use any of the Live features or download DLC, and Achievements won't show up on their tag unless they log in to Live using another GFWL title.

This is all from experience having been given a copy of Fallout 3 on PC that someone wasn't using anymore. I did try to use the Access Key, but it just bounced me back saying it had already been used, and the person who gave me it never had their account banned. As far as I know, there is no way to deactive a Live Access code from a gamer tag once it has been used.
