  • Siren games/film New Threadlation

I know there was an old Siren thread back somewhere but I thought I'd make a new 'all inclusive' one.

I only recently learned there is a Forbidden Siren Film. Has anyone seen it?
It's based on the 2nd PS2 game and was released around the same time.
I've ordered the Malaysian version from YesAsia:
Buy "Forbidden Siren (DVD) (English Subtitled) (Malaysia Version)" at YesAsia.com with Free International Shipping! Here you can find products of morimoto reo, Ichikawa Yui,, Innoform Media (M) Sdn Bhd & popular Other Asia Movies & Videos.

There is the Japanese standard and special editions but neither of those have English subtitles, but the Malaysian version does.

I never finished the original PS2 game. I find it very difficult and unforgiving. You can spend AGES studying the Shibito's movements and painstakingly crawl through the later levels but one mistake will usually result in failure.
I really enjoyed the PS3 remake! So much so, that I decided to go back and complete the original. I've restarted and have gotten about 3/4 of the way through but... I havn't given up, it's just a 'work in progress' I've put aside for now.
I never finished the 2nd game either and it's been years since I played it (I just got distracted with other things). So, since the movie is based on the game, I've decided to restart and try to complete it this week.

I think it's a very good and unique series. The 'New Translation' has certainly left me wanting more. It was the best Horror game I've played for a long time.

    Thoughts on the games?
Do you want a new Siren?

I love Siren. The first game is frustratingly, soul crushingly hard but I beat that fucker to completion. I do admit, I needed a guide to do it though. I would have never found some of the things you need to do otherwise. The second one is easier, but still awesome. Much to my surprise the remake has proven to be my least favourite. It was significantly easier and the story and characters felt...well, dumbed down. Still good, but not as good.

I saw the movie once, when it was released. It was...very wierd. It doesn't directly relate to the actual games, oddly, bar the location and visuals, but I may be wrong.

I have the first one for PS2, and I'm daunted like a cat watching lesbian porn. It seems the most realistic of any stealth/supernatural game because any ordinary person up against a ghost with a sniper rifle would be done. I look forward to trying out the remake, as the verdict here seems to range from well done to very creepy.

I have the first for PS2 also. The game is two things:
        1. fucking creepy.
        2. MIND-NUMBINGLY DIFFICULT.

I also have Siren: Blood Curse on the PS3, and I have to say it's absolutely incredible. I don't know how I never found it before I did (about a year ago), but the story, characters, everything was amazing. Not to mention Spoiler:

One of my favorite horror games besides REmake and SH1-3.

And I saw the movie too. I thought it was pretty good, but like DM said, doesn't really relate to any of the games. But yeah, definitely check it out. It's good. (Then again, I'm usually partial to video game movies, so I might be a little biased. Except for Uwe Boll, of course.)

I still wanna play Forbidden Siren 2... D:

Siren 2 is good, but easier than the first one by quite a margin. But the story is pretty much completely unrelated to the first, so it's all fresh and new.

I only played a little of the first one, it was pretty tense. The movie is ok, not great but not bad either.

^You should import the HK version, 'New Translation' (It's all in English). It was really cheap from Playasia a while back. The US and download versions are censored a bit.

I'm 20 missions into Forbidden Siren 2. It's really good!
I think I like it better than the original PS2 game already. It might not be as hard but it's still not easy, IMO (I'm playing on Normal).
It's a great looking game, much better than the first. The original has those photo realistic faces stuck on the characters heads but FS2 has the whole character photo realistic. It's like playing a movie.
There's a lot of variety. You control everyone from soldiers with machine guns, to helpless little girls, to a blind dude with a dog (you have to 'sight-jack' the dog to look and move around!). I just finished a mission where I was driving a big truck around. Sadly, you can't run straight over the Shibito, they just get knocked aside.
And some of the files you collect in the Archive are brilliant. Including 'real life' video files that give the game a Blair Witch kinda vibe.
Also the option to play with Japanese audio, with English subtitles is a nice touch.

The movie is meant to be based on the 2nd game. Set on Yamijima Island. I'd be surprised if there's no connection.

Siren Blood curse is an incredible crushingly scary game, its truly terrifying even in the day. It truly ranks as my number one favorite game this gen. The story was well done and the extra little files were incredibly detailed and unique. Really loved Miyako and the entire cast, all of them felt so real and interesting by the end. Anyone who has ps3 and loves survival horror should really give this a go, at points it makes games like dead space seem cute..lol

Never had a chance to play the older games, but would really love to, i heard they are as good if not better then New Translation

Did anyone else really love that...tv series feel it had with the chapters, it always left it on a cliffhanger and made me really want to find out what happened next, but also having to dredge up courage at the same time.

As well...Best Horror soundtrack ever...seriously amazing, and im including my favorite composer Yamaoka in that list

The first Siren I played was the demo of the first, in the school and when you're with Miyako.
God, that was when I was like 7...

The first FULL Siren game I played was New Translation, imported from Hong Kong, and such an amazing game that was!

When I was in America in October, I found Siren 1 for $5 and nearly cried.
Im currently playing that and well, I'm stuck on the school level now.
That game is so fucking hard.

I got Forbidden Siren 2 for Christmas and squeeled like a baby.
It's WAY better than the first and probably even the third!
To me, Siren 2 has the most likeable characters!
(I only really like Miyako from Siren 1)
Ichiko, Shu, Yorito, Yuri, to name a few.

But to me, every Siren has a downfall...
                      Siren 1 is too hard.
Siren 2 progresses too fast (I've cleared 24 levels in three hours)
                      Siren 3 is too short.

Thus ends my love post for Siren. <3

Also, OMFGWTFBQQ! THE MOVIE IS OUT IN JAPAN?!?!
I'm going to order a subtitled version ASAP. NEED.
I also ordered X-CROSS subtitled just because my favourite Japanese singer is in it (Ami Suzuki love <3).
You should try that if you like horror films, it has SOME comedy I suppose and it's really interesting.
It also follows a cult background and has a storyline that follows much like Siren. (the backwards and fowards thing)

The movie has been out for quite a while. What impressed me about the Siren games was it was actually true survival horror, it was just normal people trying to stay alive not by fighting but by hiding and sneaking through (which is what normal people would do rather than pick up a gun and start shooting the place up), and it was really tense and terrifying too thanks to the weird feature that let you see the enemies POV, hiding somewhere and being able to see them looking for you is just freaky, and the amount of time they search just adds to the tension. Genius.

@Wanderer, I agree the PS3 remake was pretty cool with the 'tv episodes' style. It was probably done as an experiment, due the fact the game could be purchased as separate DLC episodes but it was quite effective.

I finally managed to complete Forbidden Siren 2. It took me over 20 hours!
Epic game and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I finished all the missions and I've got 2 endings. There's supposed to be a third one you get for completing that crazy 'Annihilation' bonus mission but I havn't completed that yet (it's a cross between Mercenaries and One-Chanbara!).
I can't believe the game wasn't released in the States. You American bums really missed out on a great game...

How's this for an incredibly cool Fun Fact:
The Island of Yamijima is based on the real life abandoned Japanese Island called Hashima!

Check out the crumbling concrete buildings etc. It's all exactly the same as the game. The Island even had a coal mine. It's had prohibited access for many years but recently has been opened to tourists, with supervised tours. (I wanna go there! )
