Thanks for the head up Gene. Hopefully after the day is over that it might fix itself on the problems.

Well, I never managed to get the DLC for Heavy Rain. It was actually the whole trying to do so that ended up making it go pfffft. Couldn't care less about the trophies. Just wanna be able to play it once the kids are in bed, but I'll watch TV and paint instead if I can't.
Edit: Interesting note; not only does manually correcting the time not help, the time doesn't move forwards if the PS3 is shut down.Last edited by Darkmoon; 03-01-2010, 10:17 AM.

*Loads up PS3, thinking it will be fine. Downloading updates for the game, thinking that doing this is a good sign and should be safe. Resets the console after update is installed. Loads Heavy rain, the error appears!*

Well, Gareth's PS3 is bricked. I haven't put my PS3 on in over a month now, so I'm not going to turn it on and risk it being bricked and my save data cocked up. I'll wait till I know there's a definite solution.
This further confirms my strong belief that Sony are incompetent and their customer service is a load of sh*t, after experiences with them with their VAIO support.

They seem to be much more involved in this thread. Here's the most recent post:
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.
We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.
Errors include:
* The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
* When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".
* When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
* When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
* Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have one of the above listed models, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.
EDIT: Now this same post has been posted on the US PlayStation Blog:

^It's also reflected on the US PS Blog site. I wonder if Sony is going beyond just their websites to spread the word? Nah, they're probably just allowing other media sites to regurgitate the info and thus disseminate the message en masse.

Jeff Rubenstein of the PlayStation Blog offers a...nonchalant response:
Summary: PS3 slim is good to go, older models should be fine within 24 hrs. Leave em off until then.

Surely your individual experience, out of billions of Sony consumers, is enough to pass judgment on a company that's only been in business since 1946. It sucks to have something not working at the moment, but a PS3 or a PC are not life sustaining.
Again, it's nothing to do with the fact that it's a "crisis" or "life-sustaining". These are two products (VAIO and PS3) which Sony sell to customers. You expect a service and you, most of all, expect your product to work. At the moment, I get neither of these and I've spent enough on it (collectively around £1200). When I am spending that much on a product from a company, I expect top of the line stuff, and service. Not an automated phone line where I speak to a robot, only to cut me off with no option of speaking to a human being, and to speak to a human being I have to call a premium rate phone number to pay yet even more for a product I've already paid £900 on. I've not recieved the service that kind of money warrants, therefore I have a right to criticize the service I have received from said company.Last edited by Alexia_Ashford; 03-01-2010, 01:33 PM.
