Lyrics and singing are one great aspect of a song, but that makes him no less the composer of the piece.

What I think he's saying is... If Akira doesn't write the music and Joe Romersa does... Then how is it that SH1 and 2 are credited to Yamaoka when Romersa wasn't even there? >_>; Unless he was and he just didn't use his pipes.

I know that Yamaoka wrote the music. But like I said, when I hear the term, "song writing ability", lyrics are the first thing that comes to mind. That's what I thought you were referring to, Gren.

When people say songwriting they typically mean the piece in its entirety. Writing may apply to words, but in this case music is the language. Each instrument is equally important and has a voice of its own.

Either one or both. For specific songs he collaborated with other song writers, but he did lay the foundation of the song. She sang to his composition.

I just use the term composing when it comes to the instrumental. I guess since I mostly deal with rap, I tend to look at the instrumental and the lyrics as two entities, which can work great as one, but are still two separate components that can go independently. Lyrics as a poem, and the instrumental as a stand alone composition.

Oh, and that fake song. The sound itself is off, but the notes are similar to what Yamaoka would use. He tends to depend a lot on alt picking and power chords. In this case rather than Yamaokas usual tendency toward measures of 3 it leans to 4. It alternates from major to sharp and sharp to major consistently which is also token of his style. The intro in you're not here for instance is alt picking a perfect fifth from the 5th fret to the 8th fret. Detuned thats G# to B. For the Chorus the rhythm part is C# to B. He rarely uses modes. His playing style is almost Atypical of early 90s noise rock acts.

In short, his style is formulaic and the fake almost fits the formula.

Yeah, but the sound effects, and how little of it there is. I mean, the track itself, I could put something like that together easily. And if I was as familiar with the theory behind the guitar as you are, I could do the melody too. Point is, it's not difficult to replicate something like that.

The difference is, though, that Silent Hill makes use of tonal landscapes for its background music. And by definition, a tonal landscape, although evokes certain emotions through noise, does not contain any recognizable sound. Since in this particular piece, we can clearly make out that the sound is that of a snow storm, it's already technically not a tonal landscape.
Now, granted, it could be a work in progress, and in the long run, that sound of a snow storm could be reverbed and edited to not sound like anything in particular... But that would also mean that we'd have no reason to believe that the game would be involving a blizzard.

Erm, the game with Stupid Ghosts, as you call them, WAS made by Team Silent.
And I disagree about the plot. Silent Hill's plot should always be independent. SH2 was the best for a reason, it didn't tie itself into the whole Alessa affair.

Because lots of people believe that PH is own by James... I don't agree with them though (THE Pyramid Head from SH2 was James', PH in film and Homecoming is different). But, I agree that reusing the same monster just for the sake of fanservice is kind of lame, even without considering the plot. PH, or rather Bogeyman as he is called in Homecoming, has his purpose in the game, isn't there just to show "hey, I'm in this new game so buy it now! ", but Double Helix could (and should) design a totally different monster instead of reusing the film's version of Piramid Head.

And about next Silent Hill title - I doubt that Konami even think about it now. Homecoming is still to be released in Europe; in America and Japan, according to vgchartz.com, it didn't sell too well -- there were 130 000 copies sold on X360 and 110 000 on PS3; no info about PC version, but I doubt it would sell better (PC version is a very lazy port with lots of bugs, problems with compatibility with specific sound and graphic cards etc).

SH:H was a good game (not great, not bad - just good), that only needed a little more time (and money) just so the team could make it look better and polish it's minor flaws. But still, I would prefer Team Silent to make next SH game - their style of story telling, their style of design, suits me better.

Yes, but James didn't just create Pyramid Head. Pyramid Head was an icon, a punisher of sins, that I believe James had seen, maybe in that very same painting in the Silent Hill Historical society. Although the PH that James saw was a creation of his psyche, I don't believe that James created him completely from nothing.
In Origins, a painting of PH is hanging on the wall inside the burning house. I'm pretty sure that it's an icon among the Order.

Believe me, I paid as much attention to SH2 as anyone.

Not only that. Lots of those child's images refer to "Bogeyman" as to the one who will come for you if you're bad.
