Yeah, I think they expanded upon that with Aliens versus Predator: Extinction. It was a rather bland and average RTS, but the xenomorphs would change depending on what animal they managed to impregnate. For example, if you gestated inside a bovine animal, you would become a "runner" or if you implanted a human, you would become a "drone" or "warrior".

What I liked about the xenomorphs was their ability to acquire traits from their hosts to aid in their growth cycle. Initially, it seems as if they are a blank slate when they are in their larval form. Once they latch on to a host though, it seems to pick up some trace genetic patterns from the host which determines the final evolution of the Alien. That's why Aliens that infect humans, result in a xenomorph that is bipedal, Aliens 3 showed an alien that infected a dog and thus created a quadruped alien, Alien Resurrection then showed us a half human/half alien creature which was quite disturbing, and then of course the alien that infected the Predator which created another hybrid...
Interesting stuff...

Actually, you got to see the xenomorph quite clearly in the original films. Back then they didn't use computer-generated imagery, everything was done using animatronics, which in my opinion made them a lot more realistic. For example, when you're seeing a couple of xenomorphs leap forward in AvP, just how they move is enough to tell you that they're not real. You can just tell that it's CGI. But with animatronics, it IS real, what you're seeing there actually exists, it wasn't put together on a computer screen.
Another thing to point out is that the xenomorph needs mystery, it needs to be shrouded in shadows so that we can only make out the vague details about it, it adds to the atmosphere. When you suddenly see the entirety of the creature in perfect view, it robs it of its main strength - the fact that it's almost unseen. Sure, in the original film, you do see them but it's often so quick that you can easily miss it if you're not paying attention.Last edited by Mr. Spencer; 07-27-2008, 05:04 AM.

look i like the originals ALOT even if i didnt grow up with them, and when directers and producers make a new movie like alien or predator or even mashed together in this day and time with the possiblitys you have now, its very hard to stay with the same kinda story that was set in the past, because most of the time you didnt get to see a full body of an alien because it was a man in a costume that didnt cover his whole body, ehy but i like the old ons better though, the new ones are very good because its updated with ya you know what i mean but eh -plops from exaustion-

^ What he said. *eats icecream*
I'm in the same boat as Mr. Spencer when it comes to all of the movie's listed above. The only good movie's in a given franchize are usually that prequels.
Predator 1 and 2 were great movie's though. Same with Alien/Aliens, it would seem. Although I do have to say however that I liked Alien 3 and Resurrection.

The Aliens franchise is dead to me now, and so is Predator. They managed to slaughter them both with a single stone, merged together to create something more palatable to the mainstream masses of the 21st century but in the process, destroying a sacred aspect of this man's childhood. Aliens is a timeless classic, with memorable characters and iconic scenes that will be remembered for years to come. Looking back at Alien versus Predator, I saw nothing that anyone would look back at in ten years and say to themselves, "Wow, wasn't that an epic scene?" - Actually, wait. Given the way that our so-called civilisation is going, it wouldn't surprise me if people gave it high praise, especially considering how low standards have fallen in regards to the franchise (and in a sense, society itself) - and a couple of other franchises, with the possible exception of Terminator, since I think T4 is going to go a long way to rebuilding the trust ravaged by T3 - but I digress.
It wouldn't be fair of me to criticise Paul Anderson, I was fond of Event Horizon and the grossly underrated Soldier (it's got Jason Isaacs and a script by David Peoples!) and for that reason alone, I couldn't judge the man too harshly for AvP - and by extension, the Resident Evil film. Returning to the topic, I wasn't particularly keen on Alien³. Not even Charles Dance could have saved that one. But what we're seeing today is an amalgamation of bastardisation, two franchises merged together to forge an extreme action flick - one that dulls the conscious mind on multiple levels at how something this abysmal was allowed to roam free in the cesspool of modern cinema.
I long for a return to the days of Aliens. The moronic guffawing of Private Hudson in the corridors of the Sulaco, the feministic empowerment that Ripley's character gave to young women of the 1980s, the pulsing orchestral soundtrack of James Horner, etc. Instead, today's generation have to make do with such tripe as this, cardboard cutout characters, unnecessary explosions, aforementioned cardboard cutout characters running away from the unnecessary explosions, and the biggest franchise raping shitstorm since the trifecta of fuckuppery that was the Resident Evil films.Last edited by Mr. Spencer; 07-26-2008, 01:47 AM.

It was stated that in Alien the creature were only 12 or so hours of age after bursting from human, in Aliens it was weeks, enough time to change shape alittle. In other alien movies directors just doesnt use that design of creature no canon explanation.

I thought both were pretty terrible. The story just wasn't there. I come to Predator and Alien(s) for the story, not random killing. The human characters were all forgettable.

that doesnt make any sence cause they were just born in that movie and when they were just born in the first movie they never looked like that... it really confussed now...

Ok, I'am abig AVP fan and I liked AVPR, it wasn't great but I still like it though. The first AVP was bad it had some good moments but I don't like it. Anyway the desighn of the aliens were always different, they had a ridged heads in aliens and it was stated by the director that it means that they are older than the one from the first movie. So the older the alien the more ridged his head is, and the directors of AVPR are a big Aliens fans so they used similar desighn in their movie.

I liked all of the Aliens, except for Resurrection which was bad on so many different levels. AVP1 and 2 I treated like action movies, and popcorn flicks which you could just sit back and relax with.

I didn't really like ethier of the movies, but I do have to say, I'd rather watch AVPR over the first movie any day. Come on now, predator + human team up = lame. AVPR though, personally just didn't feel like an alien movie to me, Xenomorphs walking down the streets and in like forests and shit just seemed really out of place in my opinion. Pretty decent though about how much the amount of gore increased from the first movie to the second. Still would of much rathered Alien 5 over AVPR though.
