It's not youtube's fault. And WMG sucks. I use youtube to find alot of impossible to find videos and old synth music. They even do that for very very very obscure songs that are long out of print which you know no one in their right mind is ever going to reissue for 1000 people. That's why I make sure to save whatever I like right away.

btw paying 400$ for an out of print vynil is legal, but neither WMG nor the artist makes a single dime out of it.Last edited by The_15th; 03-31-2009, 06:01 PM.

By this logic you are saying it's ok to torrent games, music and movies because the guy that uploaded it bought the original. If you upload the video with music, nothing is stopping people from ripping the track straight from the flv. Which then results in many lost sales for the people that worked hard on the original mediaOriginally posted by nemesiswontdie View Postumm no, me paying for a cd is the exact opposite than stealing cds.

Let me put it to you this way...is it OK if the guy who uploads a new movie pays for his ticket to the cinema while the, let's say a hundred, people who download the copy he makes of the movie don't pay a penny? Do you truly believe his movie ticket gives him the right to give away other people's work?Originally posted by nemesiswontdie View Postumm no, me paying for a cd is the exact opposite than stealing cds.

I can understand for full albums. But I seriously don't understand why they would restrict promotional material such as official videos and official singles which are meant to be seen and heard by the most people possible. That they'd pay MTV or the radio to play those. I heard record companies shell out for college radio airplay too.Originally posted by nemesiswontdie View Postno it don't but trent reznor said its fine with people stealing his music theres a youtube vid of it, im looking 4 it now actually

Which rule did I break this time? Being pissed off at YouTube is allowed, no?Originally posted by Dot50Cal View PostYou're really making me question why I unbanned you despite EVERYONE HERE telling me to keep you banned. Shape up, or your back out.

Besides, I didn't know that I couldn't upload videos of something that I bought with my own money. But now I know it, so there you go.

Anyway, let's turn this discussion to why Rockstar has to be stuck up enough to take a video down which was promoting their game

Pretty ironic, really. There was about fifty comments out of the five hundred or so that said "hell yes, this is a good game! I'm gonna buy it for sure!"

Oh well, whatever floats their boat.

Yet to play Chinatown Wars, but does it have a radio?Originally posted by Helegad View PostAnyway, let's turn this discussion to why Rockstar has to be stuck up enough to take a video down which was promoting their game

I believe this was the reason why they were so aggressive about taking down videos of GTA before.

It's kinda like... someone recording a radio station playing a song and then broadcasting that. I guess the song licenses in GTA does not extend to broadcasting, basically. I'd love to see something official and concrete on that subject from Rockstar, though.
'cause, as you say, it is somewhat of a free promotion for their game that people do footage of it... but then again, did you do this footage in an emulator? Maybe they're afraid of people realizing that if they put on their pirate hat, they can just use their computer and not have to worry about buying a DS or a Game Pak to play the game.

Well, at a guess I'd assume it was the production company doing stuff then. I guess they don't wanna spend the money to produce a song and make the CD's and then have them on YouTube, but at least you're only putting up singles and such. I do agree it seems pointless taking the singles down.Originally posted by nemesiswontdie View PostI FORGOT TO MENTION THAT! i only uploaded singles and remix albums i didnt upload the orginal songs from the orginal albums

Then again Anne Rice wants all fanfiction gone forever, so eh.

And yes, Helegad was allowed to return. Dot felt sorry for him or something. No one asked for him to come back, as was previous suggested would be required, but Dot felt we were being a little harsh. Of course, given that one of the first things he did was to tell everyone he was thinking of illegally downloading the Fallout 3 Expansions and then this fun little thread...

And yes, being irritated at YouTube and the producers is fine. It's the whole lack of respect for copyright laws that seems to be steaming Dot up a little. I think you might wanna do a little research into the whole legallity of these things. Like reading the legal blurb in the game's manual.
