wtf? Tull isnt even metal lol
I always beg to differ on that subject. Jethro Tull had some of the early beginnings of heavy metal in the late '60s and through the '70s (Hell, wasn't the metal section of The Minstrel in the Gallery used to open the original Headbanger's Ball back in the day?). However, because they didn't EXCLUSIVELY do metal/hard rock and because Ian Anderson plays a flute, they get a lot of shit. It also doesn't help that Metallica (and, perhaps even more so, their fans) acted like a bunch of babies (SHOCK) over losing the first Hard Rock/Metal Performance Grammy. As someone who both owned the two albums in question and still owns them today, I would have been fine with either band winning. They both earned it.

As for me... overall favorite is Duran Duran. But I also really like:

VNV Nation, Devo, Akira Yamaoka (I know, he's amazing ), Journey, Boston, Nickelback, A-Ha, Muse, Basshunter, Groove Coverage, Freezepop, and more. I can't think of them right now.
Ah, now I used to listen to VNV Nation. They have a rather unique, almost militant sound to them that I can't quite describe. Mind you, I'm not a musically minded man so I find it difficult to describe anything musical. Devo are crazy, but they've done a few good songs. A-ha, always good. They released a nice compliation album some years back, but I didn't like their Analogue album too much. Muse - fantastic band.

I haven't heard anything by Journey or Boston, unfortunately. Nickelback *sigh*, you had all this win built up and then you went and took a shit over it. Please, please redeem yourself. You have to.

I neglected to mention a few other groups and artists - Depeche Mode, Propaganda, Vangelis, Eurythmics are okay, and Alison Moyet - great female vocalist, you just have to listen to "Only You" and be entranced by its magic.

In fact, does anyone here use Last.fm? I have an account but I rarely use it. Might start doing so.

http://www.last.fm/user/ADPolicenaut - There's my account, decorated by the rather dashing picture of Edward Woodward.

My two favorite bands are Slayer and Blondie.
Two very different types of music but both are awesome.

To name a few. I would mention Erasure but they simply don't compare, as awesome as Vince Clarke may be.

even though i do listen to alot of rock and metal bands, i don't really like to use that word to scribe myself. i'm just a wide open listener, and i'll listen to anything as long as i like the melody. lyrics can come later.
