Oh boy. I'd say my favorite decades in terms of overall sound are the 60s and the 80s. Though the past two decades have been good. The 70s don't really gel with me too much (though krautrock is a good scene). I feel I'll appreciate more complex music as I get older. I'm trying to get into jazz, and classical will stay put for a while.

60s: The Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones, Donovan, The Kinks, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Love, 13th Floor Elevators; Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young; The Creation, The Temptations, The Zombies, The United States of America, Captain Beefheart, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Left Banke, Sly and the Family Stone...

80s: Felt, Cocteau Twins, The Chameleons, The Church, Galaxie 500, Psychic TV, The Chills, Pixies, Echo and the Bunnymen, My Bloody Valentine, fIREHOSE Julian Cope, The Smiths, The Cure, The Stone Roses, The Pogues, Strawberry Switchblade, This Mortal Coil, Spacemen 3...

I could go on. My favorite band, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, didn't even form until 1990.

I remember Tiamat. I bought their album Skeleton Skeletron after hearing "Brighter than the Sun" on a Century Media compilation. I didn't like the rest of the album album as much as that song so it got shelved after a few plays. Could be a good time to dig it out again...
