I think they could do a MG movie that doesnt follow the canon and it would be still good. Resident Evil relied to much of the story and thats why the movie failed.

The movie actually was a success, no matter how much the RE fans hate it.

Also, I didn't see much of RE1's story in the RE movie.

I meant the game and game play relied to much on the story, that why the movie was hated by fans. Sorry I wasn't more specific. I think with Solid Snake or Big Boss, those characters have so much depth, that you can make a different story using those characters and it still would be good.

Then again, I saw some of Snake's asianness shine through in MGS4. It'd be hard to get someone with his exact look... not sure if anyone would do his character justice xD
