Well suspicions are cleared regarding the combat. As far as villain goes there's plenty of good choices. As far as love interest I really doubt Lohan will be involved given the circumstances.

Smiley - Valid point about Zod and other exceptionally powerful villians.

When the special edition was being made, some dude wanted to take that scene out and Donner (the original director) was against that. So it stayed.

And why is anyone talking about fighting sequences? How long would a fight against Superman last? Not very long. One punch and game over.
Please link to video so that I may laugh! I think most people are likely reminiscing about the movie in general. It's cool, it's what made me want to rewatch it.... so I re watched the original about a month ago, probably for the first time in almost 2 decades (even though I have the 13 disc box set released in 2006 - which I got to watch the Donner Cut of 2). Maybe it was just the length of time and everything that's come since but the film just has not aged well at all to me. It was a fav of mine when I was a kid... but anyone who thinks that scene is good needs to really rewatch it in the context of the whole film. The flying thing is fine, except the scene goes on far too long and that poem just doesn't work.

Surprisingly II (and the Donner cut) have fared better somehow, barring the bit where Superman uses the S off his chest as a weapon which makes no sense. I think maybe it's because the origin stories often suffer. Once you have it out of the way...

True. I like when Superman fights with Metallo. Because he really needs to use the old noggin' with that cat.

Anyway, I was aware about all of those badboys. It's just that I doubt that they will use them in the first movie coming up. It will probably be an origin movie of sorts.

There really is a god. Because if that stupid bitch got into a superman movie it would be hell on earth. And Lois Lane would be a cross-eyed, albino emo skank.

Depends who he's up against really. If it was another Kryptonian like Zod then their skills of speed and strength could weigh into such scenes.

I agree with this too yeah, even if Snyder wasn't involved, a more action based film was likely after the limited amount in Returns. As for your other comments, it's a bit hard to judge the original Superman film's action level to what a modern audience wants these days.

We use Returns as a basis for comparison here, but even the original Superman has less action scenes than Returns actually does. (going back to the original film in fact, once you compare it to all the comic book films to come after - a large amount of the dialogue is clunky, people eat scenery, and there is that god awful poem when Lois is in the air with Superman - it's not dated very well at all).

The problem is once you've seen so many action scenes done well it makes it difficult not to expect something as good or better I guess. I don't mind if Superman ends up in a decent brawl, but I still hope something different and interesting can be done with it because the hi-speed camera stuff just wont cut it (unless I guess Superman is moving a superspeed and pumbling the crap out of someone, which he wouldn't... because he's Superman...).

It's pretty irrelevant either way since people always complain about the actress chosen for a hero film. Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, Halle Berry. Hell, I've heard people get on Nolan's case about using Katie Holmes in Begins (who I thought was actually really good in the movie) and they follow her up with Maggie Gyllenhaal. And don't get me started on some of the doubters for Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. *sigh*

Perhaps we should look less at what films or shows these ladies have been in previously and focus on how they do in this movie. It happens to the 'pretty boys' as well. Heath Ledger got a lot of crap for '10 Things', 'Cassanova' and Brokeback Mountain before he proved himself as the Joker. Same for some of these ladies. I'm rooting for Hathaway just as I did for Malin Ackerman and Carla Gugino in Watchmen.
